  1. the long and short of it was that a LA down south (can't remember which one, one of the sex's) noticed that during the 60's-70's outbreak of DED a few old trees had completely withstood the effects of the disease, al grouped together so the LA and a local Tree surgeon at the time got together and took a load of cuttings off these trees and propagated them in a nursery environment (20 years old now), then they micropropagised those ones and the progeny show signs (at 9 years old) of being highly resistant to DED Only time will tell whether they are fully resistant or not but the signs are looking good and he has grown thousands!

  9. not sure what species they were, 1 type was about a chunky 1-2" high in groups of 3-4 and a light brown colour, shape a bit like fat magic mushrooms without the nipple and growing all over the roots of a 50' ash in a park other was smaller growing solitary (but quite a few numbers dotted about) a light greyish purple, umbrella like shape also growing on said ash roots I did check the were growing of the roots and not just in the park grass:001_rolleyes: didn't have my camera with me to get photos, shall try to find lookylikeys of t'interweb:biggrin:

  11. liking that last third option:thumbup: i also too think that the trees should not be removed for firewood but thats just my opinion
  12. there's plenty mycorrhizas around here, and a lot of them are in graveyards:biggrin: seen a few brackets out and about but they be the annual ones, and lots of rhizomorphs (does that count:blush:)
  13. i want to make a little stumpery type thingyo in my garden so i'm on the lookout for some intersting stumps about 2-3' in diameter (roots, not trunk bit) in the lancashire area i know its a big ask as stumps normally get left or ground out, but i just thought i'd ask:thumbup:

  20. furthest i have travelled was in full time employment and that was 1 hr 20 mins each way, after 8 months the travelling really took its toll and a job i was considering that was 2hrs away i had to refuse because of family commitments made it hard to stay away from home as a freelancer in days gone by i have travelled upto an hour and never complained about money as i just enjoy working for different people and gaining new experiences no matter where it is
  21. i suppose thats where i should look myself and not say anything i wouldn't do myself fair enough he may IMO been shot down in flames but as tony stated it is refreshing to see someone use literature in a debate to put across an point of view i did manage to read one or two of the articles and should of read more, but the general census was his argument was heading in the same direction i shall start backing up MY arguments with cited literature:thumbup:
