  1. More hassle than its worth mate. Expect no useful calls, lots of what rupe said, and 6 weeks of an annoying irish pixie pestering you every day and not taking no for an answer trying to sell you other yellow pages related crud. At least thats my experience!!
  2. hehe well spotted..................again!

You will have to be more specific mate- how fresh, what species etc etc. This is really an impossible question to answer with any degree of accuracy. Buy a ton, make a cubic metre frame on the ground out of pallets or something and see how you go is the best bet.
  4. Loo in the classifieds. SWB has a rockinger hitch unused for sale.
  5. Third time of asking blake. Sod it. How long you been out of college blake. Thats four times. Or are you on a theoretical physics degree????
  6. Bump. I would love to know too.
  7. Thanks very much for all these replies guys, they have been really helpful. QT- i live on a farm which is good, Charlieh, I had a call this afternoon from a guy who used to be part of working woodlands and now is part of RDPE, and i have an appointment on tuesday with him. He may be able to grant match- 50% funding, which would be a huge help. Cant wait to find out. I am going to check out that link now for Ero funding guide. Thanks again.
  8. You have just described my findings exactly. There are workers and grant baggers i reckon, and i have never fallen into the latter group. Hopefully this time though something will happen. Or im stuffed.
  9. It was introduced by Edward Hoppus in 1736, and was used for all timber. Only for hardwoods really now.
  10. Thanks Ian that would be great.
  11. Yeah they can be pretty cute. you ordered any extras by mistake? I used my localcollege printers. It was £16 for 500. the best bit was that they printed a 5 instead of a six on the phone number, which took my wife about 20 minutes to sort out, but they reprinted them for free, and actually gave me 750! result!
  12. I have spoken to them in the past, but wasnt eligible at the time. Ill try them again, and Council etc.
  13. My best exercise is rolling the mouse wheel over arbtalk......
  14. Yeah- you' better hope not! Business hoardings more like:scared1:
  15. It was pretty obvious, but who cares? great vid and i still want one!
  16. I would happily do that. There have been numerous occasions when i could employ two guys on the mill while i go out with another and kill vegetation with a chainsaw.
  17. Yeah, it was nearly all from Working Woodlands, who are no more. They gave millions out a few years ago, being part of objective one funding, but they has stopped about two years ago. I dont think they exist anymore. Its honestly not through lack of trying.
  18. I have always taken a certain pride in doing it that way, when the kit is paid for one feels as if it is truly earned, but this could make or break me TBH, so a grant must be found if poss.
  19. Can any body here direct me towards grant funding. I am in a position where i have the mill set up, the treesurgery setup and a nice little business, but i am being held back from expansion by an inability to work the mill to its full potential as i rely on my neighbour for heavy equipment. This is okay if he isnt using the kit, but for the last six weeks, and for most of the year, i struggle to move large pieces of timber to and around my yard, and load the mill. This situation will become worse soon as my lease is due to run out within 8 months. Every time i have bought large equipment i have funded it myself through loans or just sheer slog. I am unable to do that anymore, and i am getting a little vexed by the fact that everyone else i know always seems to get grant aid. I just never seem to be able to find any. If i cant sort this out then i fear that my business is basically going to stall and grind to nothing, as i will have machinery i am paying for that i cannot use. Any help/ pointers guys? Thanks in advance.
  20. Wow rupe, they'r massive! Take the ' out mick. Otherwise not a lot wrong. Mine are plain white one side with simple black lettering. Thats what i like. Yours work for you, why change.
  21. £8/cubic foot!!!! Thats amazing. If i have to extract the timber i wont expect to pay unless it is very high value- burr walnut, yew etc. If it is roadside i would offer in the region of 50p/cubic foot. If delivered in then £3-£5 per cubic foot for hardwoods. You should be dealing with Hoppus feet when buying/ seling roundwoood to a mill too. This is the quarter girth squared (in inches) times 144 divided by the length in feet of the log. Measure the logs circumference in inches halfway down the log, divide by 4, square that, times by the logs length in feet and divide by 144. That gives the hoppus foot volume of the wood. This is really for hardwoods nowadays, as top log diameter tables are available to buy for softwoods from forestry sources.
