  1. For more than 15 years, we’ve earned a name for No need for a comma before 'we've'. Now who's a pedant :-)
  2. Because of that we are constantly thriving to improve our already high standards to have you see us as the absolute choice for your home. Thriving? Striving. Also two spaces after a full stop and one after a comma.
  3. What weight do you need? I use a selection for my hedging and I won't use any that aren't capable of shaving your face. For a weighty one Elwell can be very good but are variable in their ability to take an edge. Gilpin, Whitehouse, Brades etc are all good. A very good lighter axe are the Ochsenkopf range.
  4. Shigo comes along and we all change practice: Mattheck comes along and we change a little: someone else puts in their penn'orth and we take another look. Move along another 100 years (assuming we're still here) and we've changed again. The truth is we'll never fully understand. The tree will reduce itself if it needs to so best not to go sit under one :-)
  5. I'm led to believe that Brighton is virtually 'cut off' by the downs. They form a barrier to the beetle which is a poor flier.
  6. They didn't. The South Downs did.
  7. What I meant was that all the individual replies fill the page rather than previously when there was only one notification for each topic.
  8. It's really annoying that every reply comes up and you have to keep scrolling down. Can it be fixed?
  9. How did you keep the grass short? If you used a mower with collector you may have sucked up the seed.
  10. I collected some rattle seed and stratified it in the fridge and freezer. Sowed it in Feb by just scattering the seed on raked out areas of grass. I think it needs to lie on top of bareish ground and the light levels trigger it. Sows itself now after scything.
  11. Agree. You also see it with dog owners: 'No...don't do that Fido...be nice' said in a pathetic way. Dogs, like kids, will take the pi55 if you let them.
  12. Sad to see this go. Moving house and the new owners will probably want stripes on the front lawn. Hay rattle, ox-eye daisies, red clover, hawkbit, trefoil etc. Fine grasses and breeding meadow brown. Neighbours think I'm strange anyway. So we start again.
  13. Epidemic now unfortunately.
  14. At the moment the things that grate are: starting a sentence with 'so', asking 'Can I get' instead of may I have and the incessant use of upward inflection.......sometimes even the whole sentence seems to be upwardly inflected.
  15. It's a hawthorn. Looks like Washington thorn C. phaenopyrum.
  16. Never a fan of poplar removals and one caused me great pain. It leaned out from a very steep bank called Paradise and overhung a cottage so when you got 50' up the thing the cottage was 100' directly below. To say 'I wasn't happy' would be an understatement. This was early eighties so just natural crotch set up and friction turns. I cut a long lateral, it swung in, the natural crotch broke out and the rope caught in the crotch below....right where my foot was jambed in. My mate started to lower and I screamed out. The pain was excruciating and the only thing I could do was put the saw through the rope and take a chance on hitting the cottage. It just missed and I was lucky. My foot healed but I'll always remember the view of that cottage.
  17. I know everyone has to live but there's a difference between a roast at the weekend and a full-blown banquet. Sometimes I wish I had that mentality and be able to sleep well at night knowing I'd ripped somebody off.
  18. I posted recently about a clutch problem with my Isuzu. I asked a mate who manages a motor factor for a price on a clutch master cylinder; no problem £125 to you (pattern part). I phoned Milner Off Road; £9.03 for a pattern part. Someone is taking the p!55 somewhere.
  19. Scrape the bark off at the base of the tree. There may be a connection between the old stump and honey fungus. If it was loquat it is very unlikely you would have seen any fruit as they rarely produce in northern climes.
  20. It looks like Japanese loquat. Hardy to about -10c.
  21. It's reminiscent of Japanese loquat. Which part of the country are you in?
  22. Graham

    Isuzu clutch.

Yes at that price it saves a lot of fiddling. Thanks for the link.
  23. Graham

    Isuzu clutch.

Think you might have the answer there. It works a lot better with a quick push on the pedal. I'll see if I can get hold of seals. Thanks.
  24. Wondered if anyone may clues regarding a clutch issue. Isuzu pickup 09 2.5. The other day the clutch pedal had a 'different' feel to it. Sometimes it behaves normally; sometimes won't disengage fully at standstill and becomes difficult to engage first or reverse and if you depress it again it goes into gear. As soon as your moving it seems ok. There are no leaks from either cylinders and fluid level is good. No noise from the clutch to indicate anything amiss. Anything else I could check apart from getting someone to drop clutch out?
  25. Mooching across the fields to the river with my dog and sitting while he plays in it. Seeing all the wildflowers come up in my natural lawn. Welcoming each season. Spring with flowers and birds; Summer with garden veg and fruit; Autumn with the hedgelaying and ploughing matches and winter hedgelaying. Is that more than three?
