  1. I get a lot of work from writing letters. Chances are he knows it's on a lean and a letter along the lines of 'introducing your services to local businesses' gives quite a good impression (as long as it looks nice and proffesional). Might just jog him into getting a quote.
  2. I have mine attatched to the bridge on my treemotion. If it is a sliding D on your harness then depending on the harness you can replace the webbing bridge with rope. I used to have a butterfly and i just tied some 10mm climbing line onto the rings. It worked well for me, but not 100% sure if it would pass an inspection. Leave long tails on your fishermans.
  3. lol yea mate you should see him drag, bit of pedigree chum and he's off.
  4. Your right mate. It's not so bad if you can do the job on your own, but if you need to pay staff you need to be making reasonable money. If a job is really labour intensive (heaps of dragging etc) i have to price for an extra guy, i guess it depends how hard you expect someone to work and what value you put on the labour. I'm sure that companies that go through alot of staff because they work them into the ground will be cheaper as they place less actual value on the staff. Basically if its a s***ty job i'm not doing it for nothing and dont expect my staff to.
  5. aaah man thats even better. Only got one revolver though. I think I got that trick from one of your threads in the first place. could probably just go through biner and revolver i guess. Thats so freeking obvious. Doh.
  6. Hold your rope just above your VT and lock the tail. Just make sure your hitch locks when you transfer your weight onto it. Can be hard work, but still way easier than body thrusting in thin air. I prefer to footlock up a double line then run my climbing line off that. Just clip a pulley or revolver into two alpine butterflys and anchor into that.
  7. Totally agree mate. Most refferals don't even ask for a price. These guys wanted a price and i did'nt want there to be any suprises so i gave a price and offered to reduce it if it took any less time. The more i think about it idont think i could have been any fairer than that. i just hate to think i have put anyone in an awkward position, and hate the thought of people thinking i'm trying to rip them off. Thanks for the input guys.
  8. Just priced a job for a friend of a friend. Was a pepper tree to remove, had to be dragged up a slope then up 3 flights of stairs. Was'nt the biggest tree, but all the wood had to go aswell, plus some other smaller jobs. Any gave her a price (day and a half) and i think she was a bit suprised at how much it was going to cost. Anyway she got other people to have a look and someones given her a better price, ordinarily i would say "thats cool was a crappy job anyway", but as its a friend of a friend, i feel like they might think I was trying to rip them off. I always feel awkward in these situations and was wondering how other guys deal with it. I cant work for nothing just because i know them.
  9. lol cheers man. Am hoping to shave at least 10 seconds off that.
  10. Cheers mate all good advice. Just done the comp and done the footlock in 40 secs, I stuffed up the in the middle section and got all tangled, at least i got to the top i guess. Can only get quicker. I find its a bit easier towards the top when the rope is a bit tighter. Practice, practice, practice.
  11. That elm in burnside near the carpark. Yea might have to wheel you out next week aye?
  12. Thats exactly what i wanted mate, bring it on!!
  13. just spent a couplee hours footlocking and seem to be getting to grips with the "clip". I seem to be getting up there OK but i'm pretty knackered when i get to the top and my technique is kind of jerky, I know this is probably another thread, but any more tips would be awesome.
  14. : Oh you must be Drew's "special" friend:001_cool: So the rumours are true:001_tongue:
  15. Cheers bro reeeaaaaal helpful! knew i could rely on you for good advice. What you doing friday arvo i need help footlocking?
  16. Cheers mate had a little go today seemed a bit better. Will try harder tomorrow.
  17. yea probably cos you're not there to cheer me on bro. Do you think you can footlock in your wheelchair? I've seen guys with a clip on their prussic that goes onto their t-shirt to keep the bridge tight i might give that a go. Climbing comp in a few days, seriously considering getting the old harness out of the bin.
  18. Just treated myself and bought a treemotion. Was feeling pleased with myself loving the treemotion, until i tried to footlock with it. I'm not sure what the problem is, it might be that the bridge is too long or my position is slightly different, but i've gone from being OK at footlocking to f*****g useless. Gutted. Any tips?
  19. lol wondered where that went just bought a new one. Will pick it up when i get the chance. Drop off some mulch too.

  20. be rude not too mate

  21. Haha all friendly competition i hope. I think my main goal is not to come last ay. Looking forward to a catch up bro.

  22. Hey bro not sure if you remember me, we met in hamilton a while back. Any way I'm gonna be up in Auckland at the same time as the regionals are on so thought i better have a bash and was wondering if you wanted to catch up, maybe the day before the comp. Bit cheeky, but despite my practising i could probably do with a few tips. Anyway let me know mate. Adam

  23. I heard they cut it down to measure it.........genius.
  24. yea possibly a bit dodgy. The branch apparently broke about a foot out from the main stem, which i thought was a bit weird, i would of expected it to kind of tear down at the crotch. Ash is pretty brittle and it has been stinking hot over here. Someone suggested that the sap dries out a bit in the heat making them more prone to failure. Not sure might just have too far out on the branch.
