  1. .......so i turned my first bowl...which ended up as an egg cup suitable for quail eggs. With the lathe on the edge of a wide workbench, switch etc on the left and using chisel handle in left hand and supporting blade on tool rest with right,i find it very hard to get round to turn anything....am i doing something obviously wrong? I made a pole lathe,no problem as it was all spindle work. ............................regards, c.
  2. ...any sequential numbered tree tags out there for sale, could do with 500,or whats best system,Haglof? ..........................................regards,c. @-@ (this is my best smiley coz ~ I wear glasses)
  3. nice bowl! just awaiting a set of sorby turning chisels, whats a good way to attach to chuck,i seem to rember paper separator from school?
  4. <p>....having heath robinsoned pallets together, and having 6 potato bins, and also unenthusiastic about climbing in to empty.what a brilliant idea!If a sawpod is any good to you,? Address and its yours. regards, chris hennelly.</p>

  5. ...so i can keep on filling up available land,(bout 2 acres)with more wood, chip, tractors, etc or....tidy up,plant some Acer Saccharum and learn to tap maple syrup....anyone done this? Any Clonial Cousins with any tips?.
  6. ......so would there be anywhere i could get a decent tree survey template download? ..would professional indemnity 5 million be enough insurance....? ..is it ethical to do a survey and works...or rather, does anybody do surveys and also works? .....any tips on deeply embedded blackthorn....? cheers!
  7. ............i use plastic onion bins, bout a metre cube, roughly holds 400 logs, sell for 60quid, therefore is £1.50 for ten, onion nets hold bout ten logs so i sell for £2.50 from home or £1.50 to local hardware......when selling/delivering my cheaper logs i find quite often a quote required in the offing, not quite a loss leader...........
  8. .......unfortunately,need the space for smaller vineyard tractor to run hydraulic log splitter,so Earl Grey and Brad Dexter are available.......
  9. Fergie is a T20 petrol/paraffin,crack in block, but with a spare engine, stopped using it 18 months ago because of water in oil. Dexta was in road use this Summer, but seems to be a problem with lift pump,as it stopped 3 miles from home....a long way here in Norfolk![/center]
  10. ......am currently wondering whether to offer above mentioned Tractors for sale as Winter Projects....or put into Auction....any suggestions?
  11. .....so at about four quid a page,a binder or even treasury tags would not have eaten into the profits................... .............................................Can't wait 'til xmas for my Beano Annual!
  12. Thanks for all the tips on brambles....Saw a flail mower on e bay, contacted Tracmaster who took the trouble to look on line and tell me it wouldnt fit my unit. Seems a Stihl mulching head would be best............ ................Gonna need a bigger Brushcutter!
  13. Good Morning All...Is there a better way to clear Brambles than Chainsaw? 100m long,2m wide,2m tall, stems thicker than thumb base, against 1.8m brick wall........................................pedestrian access only! I have a BCS Tracmaster,so would maybe consider an attachment? Brambles not on Clients' ground so extreme solutions!?! not permitted. ?
  14. .....so,maybe i'll forget the springer....
  15. .....so what would be the pros and cons of using an ex army ATV springer, back from Afghanistan,(aparently it was'nt very good),for log deliveries,it self loads a tonne? and looks like an extra from Mad Max 2,a bonus i'm thinking......thoughts?
  16. ...........so after thirty five years,i think i may be competent enough to try chainsaw carving with a view to leaving client with something other than a pile of logs and woodchip..........anyone willing to show me some short cuts? Willing to travel from Kings Lynn or Maidstone for a day, financial remuneration possible..............thanks.c.
  17. ......so i was wondering where do everybody else source info' on the above? Seems like current copy of tree works is £180... However Byzantine Art by Robin Cormack is a tenner on amazon! ....i could print off a draft copy of tree works and then send it off to be handbound in calfskin and get tracey emin to do the art work........ .....what does everybody else do....? .....................(i still like chipper chain)...............................
  18. ........the last three winters have seen me failing to restore a Stihl 07. as i have numerous other projects,is there any interest out there? Saw is missing part of exhaust, recoil defies my knowledge, paintwork is jolly good, bar is ok 20 inch with chipper chain on. Probably weighs around 10 kilos,if anyone interested i could try and upload photos, could deliver around kings lynn or anywhere down to maidstone.
  19. ......recently,i missed ..out on a large plum of a job for a wind farm, because the main contractors wanted ALL tickets dated within 5 years. Experience, qualifications, references didnt count.Thats their rules,so a big firm got the job.....despite the site agent spending a lot of time helping me with convoluted method statements/risk assessments on everything from lifting and replanting trees to hedge pruning and felling......am now re-doing tickets as and when i can afford. As a byline if anything happens even if not your fault and you end up in court a question may be asked,'when did you last have training on..(whatever)'....sorry if this has all been written already.........................c.
  20. thus having scrutinised all comments regarding new STIHL policy i am now incandescent with rage and cannot find a font big enough or black enough todemonstrate my apopletic wrath......arrrrrrgh! .......just goes to show....all those walking out of syria with nothing........ of course STIHL is an anagram of HILTS which is the surname used by Steve in The Great Escape.....He also starred as 'Vin' in the Magnificent Seven, with Yul Brynner as 'Chris', which coincidentally is my first name, i qualified at Merrist Wood in 1981 which means if i have to 'refresh' every 5 years, then retrospectively i would have 'refreshed' Seven times, for log splitting i use a hydraulic one based on girder and dust cart ram with spool valve on the back of a 'dexta' which is close to the surname of 'Brad Dexter' who is the one nobody can remember in the Magnificent Seven and whose character name escapes me,but i think he got the part coz he rescued F.Sinatra from drowning......the film also stars Horst Bucholz as a Mexican 'campesino' who wants to be a gunfighter. Horst, is in fact.....German.....The Germans were quite literally on the other side of the fence from Steve in The Great Escape but the'jump' was performed by, i believe, Buddy Ebsen, but not on a German motor bike or 'sickle' as they would say in the 'States'...a 'State' is a description of my paddock as i have spent too much time on the computer, 'too much time' is what happened to Steve as he had to go into the 'Cooler' in 'The Great Escape'....i guess its all a bit of a pickle,A BIT OF A PICKLE will be an unauthorised autobiography written as a trilogy in four parts illustrating my struggle for recognition, tho it will be a severely limited edition, published anon. anyhow tis time for me to try newly delivered SAW POD an see if it lives up to the hyperbole.............................c.
  21. ....................so I had a disturbing dream whilst strimming the other day.... A bright summers day with a gentle south westerly meandering through a stand of Beech........But I was using a top handle ON THE GROUND!!! I mentioned this to the best beloved, she said would this not be useful in certain circs.?? H.S.E.,Isurance,Best Practice, says I........ .............any dream interpreters?.................
  22. .............hmmm,hitler,stalin,pol pot, killed millions..... thatcher removed a small bottle of warm milk(no fridge at the convent I went to)... however, under the right to buy,mum bought our council house, later I was able to go Merrist Wood and thence start a career in tree surgery...........personally I have no axe to grind........(( your description of how coal is made seems tenuous, but then i am no coalologist:)) ..................................................................................................................
  23. melodeon,kgbfingar....thanks for the info' on timeserts, will use them to extend life of ms200s......chris h.. .....if it wern't for venetian blinds...it'd be curtains for all of us........
  24. <p>doobin,hi! longbow is hickory over lemonwood? and pulls 40lb @ 29" made by 10ring archery in ramsgate,I shoot without any sights and generally support bandage instead of bracer.......'spect thats why i have to buy more arrows!.....c.</p>

  25. Decided to buy some new arrows for my longbow.....best arrows are Port Orford Cedar......after many years of ignorance I thought I would find out what sub species this is..........amusingly,POC is our old friend Chamaecyparis lawsoniana! Don't know why arrowsmiths are not labelling it as such?...........Or can I re-price/re-label lawson logs? Also, does any one have experience of Time serts from Wurth? As heli-coils have failed in exhaust of ms200.
