  1. Try Andrew townsend on 07748854549
  2. I would say the course content is really good and the fungi ident is open book (although one chap managed to fudge his up). If you have experience in the industry I think this will give a head start as we survey trees every time we climb or quote etc. I would try and get handy with using a clinometer or which ever method you choose for measuring height. Try and practice pacing out metre strides for canopy spreads and distances from buildings/roads etc. enjoy the course and ask questions
  3. Been away on holiday and read a great book. Ultra marathon man confessions of an all night runner by dean karnazes. A great and inspiring read, really want to step up my trail running and mountain biking miles. See if I get through winter with limited injuries but fancy doing "the wall" a ratrace organised challenge running hadrians wall from Carlisle to Newcastle 69miles over two days or one day if your nuts
  4. Pretty sure because they are different blokes......
  5. I think another thing to consider is how could this affect pest, disease and fungal spores this time of year? Some interesting points of view too. I think it's a bit sad and naive of people to hope for storms like 87. Possible short term gain but not long term IMO.
  6. I believe it's in accordance with manufacturers spec which it is for stihl to apply chain brake then rev for a few seconds although I prefer the other way at full revs
  7. Try Andrew townsend on 07748854549 I will let him know of this thread
  8. Ran on the Sunday and the hills and mud were brutal but we all finished, great venue. When we have recovered I might suggest another one.....
  9. You will find it a breeze, I have been poor with the training but we are in no rush to get round. Done one in may and was nice and sunny, this one in black mountains scares me a little. Good luck to you sir
  10. Anyone doing tough mudder in Wales this weekend? I'm doing it on Sunday but its my stag weekend so will be double pain on Monday
  11. I see that some forestry belts have quite a wide back support, has anyone much experience with these as would be useful too?
  12. Try winson woodcraft from reading http://www.winson-woodcraft.co.uk/
  13. If its the tree I think it is there are power lines in range so I personally think a little care will be needed in winching it out of the remaining tree incase it pulls the other tree too, I would say a mewp job.
  14. Found a good few on this acer on Saturday. Not sure on pruning wound fungi and no decent pictures but three nice brackets on dead limb. I thought gano but friend thinks rigidoporus? .
  15. Had an oak with inonotus at the base. More of a deadwood than reduction but was just nipping a few ends. Didn't want to hit it too hard so to leave internal growth for future retrenchment and the side profile of the tree, you can see how sparse the right looks compared to the left (its all one tree).
  16. The guy I was freelancing for wants to do heavy reduction to remove some weight but the crown looks in good condition, standard oak minor deadwood but agree the combination isn't a good one. Work for the future, we were working opposite and I fancied a look
  17. Found a couple inonotus brackets on this oak today (can just make them out) and what I think is a small patch of collybia. Didn't get close up of collybia I'm afraid. Happy to have found something to be part of this thread .
  18. The only thing that can be a pain is on frog walk if the sj catches wrong it needs adjustment or it won't tend but that could be my chest clip was naff. Like arron said I would have thought the rw will remove some of the weight on the sj but does get me thinking about its weight limits
  19. Not a great picture as you cant see it running through thimble and my tether is got great but seems to work for the moment. A little refining like all these things. Cant paste an image so its an instagram link. Will get arbtalk app on my phone and try again Instagram
  20. I run this setup as i like the way the spiderjack has no sit back (it locks on the rope where it stops??). Running it through the wrench still works well, just need to run the tether through the thimble or velcro. If your used to a rope guide it takes a little while to get used to the extra friction and you will probably need a new cam if going from 12 to an 11mm rope but i like it. Hope that answers questions
  21. I see they are advertising a job for a lecturer and they aren't spending the extra on wages for sure. Interesting thread as I'm keen to start something next year
  22. Unfortunately stolen to order it's worth trying to note as many features/serial numbers you can get access to and head to sodbury sort out near Newbury beginning of October I think. Some parts may turn up and get a potential lead? Good luck
  23. I went to a seminar with ted green a speaker who has a lot of involvement with ancient trees and he is trying to promote leaving stubs like some of you mention
  24. Bit harsh, maybe subject choice is changing for people and so are choosing subjects interested in rather than "that will do for a year"?
