  1. hi. am i mad for wanting to do forestry aswell as tree surgery. i have my own business with 3 of us working pretty much full time. i've been offered to extract 500 ton of spruce douglas and larch off a local estate and would love to get stuck in. i've got a valmet, winch and timber trailer and guys to fell but i cant work out the maths and bothered that theres gonna be a massive price cut on day rate for a long time. i know it all depends on how much the timbers bought and sold at, and how much can be felled a day but roughly how much can be felled and extracted in a day. some advice and examples would be much appreciated. many thanks, mike
  2. how do. just wondering if anyone has had any experience with hypro processors or similar. main query is how much they increase timber processing than manually and if they only any good with a crane or alright with just a winch. any info would be appreciated. ta (timber to be harvested is no bigger than 18 inches and douglas fir and larch if it makes any odds)
  3. is it right that you charge 20% but only pay 10.5%. i wasnt going to even mention about VAT to domestic customers.

  5. quote from HMRC website, 'You can generally reclaim VAT on goods you bought up to four years before you registered for VAT, and services you bought up to six months before you registered. Remember too that you may be able to backdate your VAT registration by up to four years although once your date of registration has been agreed with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), it cannot normally be changed.'
