  1. Did you stuff 15% of the brash back in his hedge then John?
  2. My first thought was - why not just straight fell it? You have a tractor on site. My second thought was - I think Dave has done this before. Good work fella.
  3. But I can't imagine life without picking loads of knots and kinks out of my throwline to take me up to first tea break!
  4. Does the line honestly not get tangled up in a cube? They are bloody dear as well aren't they? I had a system very like Deans until recently. Upgraded to a stringline spool winder from a tool shop (complete with 200' stringline!). How do you pack line back into a cube?
  5. Whats best, Stihl or Husqvarna?
  6. What are they mate? Where do I get them? I am aware of roots going in spirals if left too long in a small pot!
  7. It's a nightmare to fly tip it quickly, isn't it guys?
  8. Nicely worded mate! Have to file that one for later....
  9. Thanks mate. Will have a crack this autumn. Long way off 5000 though!
  10. I have transplanted loads of Oak seedlings found in my chip stack, edge of stubble fields etc. They always die when I plant them in more suitable places! Would I be better off cultivating them in pots for a year or two?
  11. Rupe check out the 'how much does a tree weigh' thread in General talk. Lot of grist for the mill there regarding your project. I am starting work on my arb-hovercraft this weekend!
  12. Old plug looked fine, grey if anything. Even he wouldn't have oiled the wrong end! I wouldn't know a damaged piston if I saw one! I know it's only a hobby saw, but 1 hours use! Maybe I'll get him an 88 next birthday. With a 12" bar...
  13. I always have a clamber inside before quoting if it's a biggish job. Been caught out like that before. Bet they were dusty chipping John!
  14. No he wasn't. A full chip box of wood on a Transit DOES only weigh 220KG. Officer.
  15. My father in law bought a 180 to use for cutting a small amount of firewood at his place in France. Last year he said the saw had stopped and wouldn't start again. Went down there last month and sure enough the saw will not start. It has had less than an hour's use! Filled it with new fuel mix, bought new plug (sparking well when tested) but will not fire at all. Thing is, he hasn't got a clue about correct fuel mix, and could have been running it on 25-1 for all I know. Or diesel! He reckons it was cutting fine, stopped and that was it. Has he clogged the carb or done some terminal damage? The saw is still in France (we flew). My skills don't extend further than basic field-stripping of saws - pistons and carbs etc. are are bit beyond me. Any ideas welcome. Thanks.
  16. What's the difference between trousers and boots then? No SA remarks about legs and feet please.
  17. Can someone explain what the situation is about paying VAT on PPE? Boot s no, trousers yes, complete helmet set no, visor on it's own yes, gloves sometimes... What is the law? How does it work? How can I avoid it?!!!!!
  18. Thanks Dave. My education continues!
  19. Great news, remember the original thread. Excuse my ignorance, but what is tree pulling? Is it as self explanatory as it sounds? If so, with what?
  20. Is there some kind of laser hypsometer(?) device that can help in measuring tree volumes?
  21. Off the top of my head Ben I would say similar figure here.
  22. Ben - sssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
  23. No chipper? Do you carry some goats round with you?
