  1. Some pics of an insurance job we did lately.Nothing like tidying up a fallen maple in 4 different properties!

    Todays job

Had to take down this split poplar(second from the left in first pic).Things were going well till the wind got up!Had to cut a small elm and lime which it was leaning on first,it moved a little each time but still sat there. Not much in the middle to direct it away from the trees in the line of fire, however managed to put in a reasonable step cut then with a barrel on the choker twisted it round and down through a gap behind. All this while the client and his wife were looking on.Managed to miss the trellis nearer the house and the phone line which i'd dropped previously.Funny how the jobs you don't look forward too turn out to be the best ones.:001_smile:ps the wall has been damaged before and the whole length is to be repaired later,Jist as well!
  3. It's a wonder you weren't asked to do them for the wood.I'd be walikin away to the next job at a more profitable rate.
  4. We did our signing lighting and guarding course(2 days),well worth it in the long run.Yes lux(owned by A-plant are good but they're really expensive. We hire our lights from them at £75 per week and have all our own signs etc.The high price for lux puts most clients off IMO,thats why we did the training.Stop/go boards are ok in a 30mph but LA prob won't allow you to use them on a 60mph road.Up here we have to have a valid permit for the duration off the works which in our area is FOC,but not in other area's.As long as you do everything properly i can't see anything wrong risk wise doing it yourself.Hope this helps.
  5. Had enough of it last time up here.Looks like durham and roundabout are going to get it bad,so becky said tonight:thumbdown:
  6. Packing up,there's a thing, hate doing when dark something always gets forgotten!
  7. I keep an open mind on stihl or husqvarna.I don't have a 346 eqivalent but i have a 34 6.Good weight ,plenty power and very aggressive. But i am thinking on buying another small saw,new 346 or ms361.Can't comment on jonsered but yes they come from the same factory(EM).jist my 2pence worth.
  8. Prob not much help jackchich but i have a similar problem with my 346 runnin a oregon prolite 15'' an .325 chain.Interesting replies, might help me too:001_smile:
  9. Fascinating pics.I read about this in this months forest journal monkeyd,i believe in the last lot of pics no2 was used.I think they came up with the verdict that there's no difference between hand cutting by axe or cutting by chainsaw for regrowth.Does climate play a big part David? regards jamie:001_cool:
  10. Looked like a great show steve and as SWB said indoor too.
  11. Same here, cut alot of DED ones. Not many big ones up here still dodging the beetle david, but i'll keep my eyes open.
  12. We charge the same. It's a funny thing, when i was a production cutter back in the day during winter short days you always cut the same as in summer. No p$*!in about i think was the main reason, same seems to apply for climbing with us anyway.
  13. Think so,checked on other axle but there seems to be only one way they go in.Yes the adjuster on the drum is a bolt.Think i've got it now.Is it easy to tell if cables are ok or not,one of my tippers went for a service at the main dealer and came back with a rather large invoice stuck to it!They fitted new cables.
  14. Thanks for the advice guys. Not sure about the adjuster on the drum though.
  15. I renewed the brake shoes on my ifor 14ft flatbed a couple off weeks ago.I slackened off the tension on the cables a bit because i thought i would need to with the new shoes. They don't seem to be braking when needed, does anybody know the correct way to adjust them or is it just trial and error?
  16. Baillieswells road doug.Top workmanship,it'll be ready to fell for firewood next spring/summer!
  17. It sure is.Still got haddo house and craigievar castle to do before feb.Been at castle fraser, leith hall and drum also.
  18. Worked there in february mokeyd. It was not so nice.It SNOWED alot.:thumbdown:Such a great location an really good weather really makes you appreciate this great outdoor life.
  19. That's cool,i'll print off a copy an stick it through their suggestion's box next time i'm passin:lol:
  20. but i do try and keep the pegs to a minimum because they heurt if you swing into them:001_cool:You'll only do it once an all that.Me too and it hurt. It's when you get to knockin out the top an jist before the wind picks up then your saw runs out off fuel!I put it back down to a shout ''what's wrong with the saw''WTF!
  21. A contractor from banchory,he bought it from munro's of dingwall.A&J Scott hauled it all down to their mill an most of it is exported, italy i think. It looked a good tree but took 3m to reach sound stuff, always the same.
  22. Good job joe,as said before a confidence builder.Didn't think your pegs looked to bad,but they can be a pain on a windy day when the lifeline seems to half hitch its self round them so you can't get up or down! All in a days work.
  23. Ded elm lads.135 of them, that was the biggest in the job,8 feet dia at stump.
  24. Been working here for the last 2 weeks.Fyvie castle, aberdeenshire.Dismantled 5 ded elms beside the loch. The sun was shining and the trees on the loch side were all in full autumn vibrant colour which on the nice days reflected off the water.Such a joy to look at whilst at work.No pics of that unfortunately but here's the castle and a wee bit off the loch behind one of the trees.
  25. Some pics of my outfit apart from the clark ranger,:001_smile:that was hired
