  1. Found these at frithsden beech in ashridge yesterday, can't find them in Collins or Philips tho, anyone got any ideas?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Never tried one of those....would need to be pretty slick to beat my sj tho ....admittedly, you could argue that all the moving parts on the sj could potentially cause probs but now I'm feeling a bit more up to speed on its correct handling, I feel sure the teething issues are behind me..(I hope:001_smile:)
  3. Yep, nice to be sjing my way round the trees again....have missed it, will be very gentle from now on:thumbup1:
  4. Got my sj back yesterday...all sorted and back in action. Free worker in Germany and honey bros got it done with no costs to me so thanks to those guys, and thanks to gibbon for the heads up on taking that route to solve the problem...will be very gentle from now on whenever I go near that grub screw!
  5. sounds could have been the shiny headed one saddling up for the job:lol:
  6. drink enough beer and you'll make your own tune outta that as it is:laugh1:
  7. Nothing too exciting....a previously pollarded willow at work which had a small section tear out. When we arrived we could clearly hear the tree creaking and moaning, you should be able to hear it the vid...the cracks went up to the top and through the main stem in various directions so had no idea where the next failure could or would occur. we tried a couple of pull tests on the heavily weighted side of the tree to see if we could remove the risk of any more sections tearing out but no joy...decided to pollard the whole tree back to the main stem eventually to manage the potential risk to target area (nearby busy public footpath)....you can see the crack opening and closing as a gentle breeze blew through the remaining canopy (before we removed it)...as i said, nothing too exciting but thought it worthwhile sharing [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxCp-eHWIyQ&feature=channel&list=UL]sept 2012 cracked willow - YouTube[/ame]
  8. By the way...re your last pic...since when did Grissly Adams join the team?
  9. Resistance is futile:sad:
  10. they are fairly tichty (very loud tho!), yep...it's the biggest burr i've seen so far..wood turners dream
  11. Reckon this beech one might be bigger? Saw an Ash burr in deepest darkest devon couple of years back, prob as big as your find, would like to go back one day to see if it's still there
  12. I was lucky enough to see Graham's presentation last night at the AA conference...the YouTube footage really speaks for itself but to have the man himself present it with his own commentary in person was unmissable! I was not only impressed by what his team do but also inspired by his professional and down to earth attitude to working in situations which are pretty jaw dropping..it's great that graham was here sharing his experiences and also commendable that the AA arrange these types of events. There's another thread running on the forum about the low turnout of working arbs at last nights BBQ/presentation...I luckily knew about it due to membership to the AA and so had the info sent to me in plenty of time to plan ahead. It was a shame there weren't more people there who are still out there climbing and on the tools.. I know there's loads of valid reasons why people can't make it to these things, is just a pity that these opportunities are missed by too many.
  13. Impressive getting the boys out on a fung hunt....i only managed to get my two girls out on a windy wet day with the promise of sweets...not sure how i'm gonna sneak in fung hunting with these 2?(not unless it's the lesser known Amanita pinkus sparkulus)
  14. we found these the other day, still not tried out the app to ident them...any ideas? i'm guessing some sort of Boletus??
  15. Well done, that's an extra big piece of cake for you next week:eating:
  16. not great pics, early morning sunshine (pre-breky again!) played havoc with contrast...but hunting none the less! can you guess where david?
  17. this morning on south meadow, hampstead heath...all before breakfast too! Nice shots btw david....she's obviously a natural! (bet she can't park the car properly though:biggrin:)
  18. Yep, from me they get their fondness for beer and kebab..
  19. changing subject slightly...found this huge beech burr in Ashridge yesterday, got my girls to pose for a pic to give an idea on scale...top of the tree has been reduced back to about 35' with coronet/fracture cuts galore
  20. it's called the valiant trooper, easy to find, only 2 pubs in the village...look for the kiddies climbing frames and there she be!
  21. Yeah, wondered if was a vet or just had had a hard life, possibly the same thing I guess? Pub is in Aldbury in herts just north of berkhamsted. Thought about a price David, would of course need to factor in a potential nIce bit of wood turning material....
  22. Probably not a veteran but certainly a survivor! Found this walnut at the bottom of a pub garden, next to a load of children's climbing frames.....pics of canopy didn't come out very well so not included, but it has a full crown with obviously plenty of vascular activity going on..
  23. Did you fellas get a voucher code sent thru to you? Got the email from Taylor Francis saying I could redeem my voucher code, have registered and verified my email but still not had a code sent to me?
  24. check with your supplier, there was a batch of faulty carbs on the 200's a few years back, if yours is one of those you may get a free carb from stihl? i did despite the saw being out of warranty, stihl provided the carb but i had to pay the supplier to fit it, still worked out cheap tho and saw has worked perfect since.
