  1. Radio 2 are playing a load of good Wrighty clips today. As they should be to honour the legend. I've just been chuckling at Sid the Manager, forgot all about him.
  2. I don't have much experience with Elwell, but the edges on all the Brades tools I have are great. They easily take a razor sharp edge and hold it for ages. Talking of sharpening, I use a Grunsfors "Axe Stone" for axes. They make easy, quick work of it as you can do a nice circular motion over the edge. Not cheap though, like anything Grunsfors, but worth it.
  3. Never found rust to be much of a problem, maybe as the old tools were quality, high carbon steel. I don't do anything to mine and they only ever suffer from very light surface rust. Which can be easily removed with wire wool, though I don't normally bother and they cut just fine if the edge is sound.
  4. Why is the UK stalling on plans for a bottle deposit scheme? WWW.EURONEWS.COM Deposit schemes have led to high rates of return in countries across Europe but in the UK they have caused division between...
  5. Result! Fly tipping is a scourge in the countryside around any city these days. Proper piss boiler. 'I guarantee we get fly-tipping every week' - Warwickshire farmer WWW.BBC.CO.UK Adam Beaty, a farmer condemns fly-tipping after blocking offenders in the act.
  6. Agree, to a point. Make stuff in smarter, cleaner, closer to home ways. Technology is only a part, (minor part), of the solution though. That's another misconception: that it's the silver bullet that's going to sort everything. It's the politician's favourite. Bottom line is we need to drastically reduce overconsumption of stuff. Consume smarter, consume less, waste less stuff.
  7. Gutted. I wonder if it was something to do with his almost retirement. RIP
  8. The old "it's not us gov, it's China. Or it's Africa with it's exploding population", is getting a bit too old and tired now. It's a cop out. We in the UK do have a fair bit of agency, in this at least. It's not all outside our control. Who buys most of the Chinese crap that sucks up resources and pumps out pollution? The West. Who consumers most of the products that the rainforest is cut down to produce? The West. And so on.
  9. Problem solved. Isn't it? The magic dog shit fairy comes along to clear it up, plus the additional plastic pollution.
  10. Another one who "didn't realise they were dangerous". Gotta love the old US gun laws. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-68223118
  11. And he has an impressive array of gold.
  12. I'll always remember when a colleague of mine proudly proclaimed "that's it, the garden is "Done"". Having just completed a load of makeover work to make it as hard, straight and sterile as humanly possible. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it would still be plagued by weeds again in a years time ...............
  13. Nah, they're probably too busy with this: Cuckoo Tracking Project WWW.BTO.ORG The Cuckoo Tracking Project has been revealing new discoveries about how British Cuckoos migrate, and the challenges they...
  14. Plus, in all the gardens I've seen plastic membranes used, they start to breakdown after a few years. Making it almost impossible to completely remove the horrible stuff. Another one for the banning list, (In domestic settings at least.), along with plastic turf.
  15. Good call. No idea about the top of the tree, I'll try to get some more photos tomorrow.
  16. Anyone ever seen anything like this before? I've not. How or why could it have happened, splitting all the way up the trunk like that? Photos sent to me earlier by my brother. One of their neighbour's trees. He thought wind damage. I can't think what else it could be, no scorch marks in case it was lightning. This is the bit that's dropped out the middle apparently.
  17. The Blue Tits are early this year. They're very busy here, checking out the nest boxes already.
  18. Three days of Right Said Fred, Conspiracy Theories and homeschooling, all with a tinge of BNP ideology - that'll be a blast. Someone ought to let old @Johnsond know about it.

    Measles

Indeed. Though I'd argue that autistic folk do more good, (and far less bad), in the world than the psychopaths and narcissists. Apparently narcissism is increasing, which seems more plausible than the rate of autism increasing. Of maybe our current culture of social media and celebrity just gives it more opportunity to be seen. Another interesting rabbit hole, unrelated to Measles.
