    Jokes???

  2. Should be a nice little cycle ride. Google Maps MAPS.APP.GOO.GL It'll be nice if they do get it. A big boost for local biodiversity; a small reversal of the general collapse at least.
  3. True. I'm sure I saw something somewhere recently about a new initiative to try to standardise carparks so that they could all utilise one app, or at least a small number of apps. That'd be great, but I don't see it happening anytime soon sadly.
  4. Not fungi, but well worth a mention nonetheless. Zoom in, zoom in. ,
  5. Wordle 1,597 3/6 🟨⬛🟨🟩⬛ ⬛🟩⬛🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

  7. No, not much idea at all really. It's all a long way away from the west midlands, and even further away from the south west. Yes, they should be handing it over for free, but they're not unfortunately. That's why they're so obscenely rich. So dear David needs donations. You could still contribute. It's good to help sometimes, rather than just complain and criticise.
  8. I saw a good talk about the impacts of AI on education by some guy last year. Can't find it now which is a shame. It was hard hitting. He essentially said that in just a few short years the whole education system will be completely redundant. Due I think to the fact that our education system is largely based on the sharing and retention of knowledge currently. Very soon there'll no real need for that as almost everything can be looked up. Wish I could remember more details. There was also some discussion of the fact that education is primarily aimed at providing students with the knowledge required to gain and succeed in employment. But again, what's the point of that when the jobs for humans won't be there soon as most will be done by AI governed machines? Excepting some skilled, manual work obviously.
  9. Big difference between a helicopter and the internet. Probably an even bigger difference with AI. If used for evil deeds the helicopter can only inflict limited damage on the scale of things. AI on the other hand, given it's all pervasive nature, could result in untold harms in the wrong hands. Or even left to its own devices if some analysis is to be believed. There's no doubt at all that it's a powerful tool. Perhaps it's too powerful already. That wasn't the original question though.
  10. Ok, I thought you hailed from the NW, but no matter, my mistake. Doesn't make much difference though, you could still contribute to a good cause.
  11. Where does this hangup about universities stem from? It's cropped up a lot recently. I must have missed that little episode on here. Sir David Attenborough backs bid to buy Rothbury Estate WWW.BBC.CO.UK Wildlife trusts attempt to raise £30m to keep Northumberland's Rothbury Estate from being split up. @Johnsond @Steven P @Mark J Any of you going to help David Attenborough out with this honourable venture? I think you're all local-ish. I chipped in earlier.
  12. Nice. The mindset was a mixture of 1, 3 and 5 really. Plus hoping for a bit of confirmation bias if I'm honest, I think it's crap! Whilst fully aware of it being a vast, complex subject the question was an attempt to force a dichotomy. No fence sitting allowed. Based on the current trajectory of the AI rollout we're all going to be forced to come down on one side of the good/bad fence anyway. We're getting no opportunity to cherry pick only the good aspects of it.
  13. Wordle 1,593 5/6 🟨⬛⬛⬛⬛ ⬛🟩🟩⬛⬛ ⬛🟩🟩⬛🟩 ⬛🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 About 10 seconds per line I reckon. One of those that just flows.
  14. I thought this was another one, when I saw that it happened "near London". But no, it was the same one that's been on the local news here, Walsall, near London. The Sikh community is up in arms about this, the latest in a string of crimes against them, stretching back to the summer. Rightly so.
  15. You'd have thought so yes. That's probably a good thing, the most comfy chairs are othen those with a bit of give in them. I've never seen one, I'd like to give one a try.
  16. Fill your boots.
  17. Even cooler is growing furniture from fungi mycelium. I've seen a few mentions of that also. It's probably a lot quicker that using saplings.
  18. Someone's going to brick their pants when they find that.
  19. People do already grow chairs. From Sycamore I think. I started trying it, but realised I was patient enough.
  20. It's not condescension if you've made yourself look stupid, again.
  21. Don't fall for another one Davey. That has all the hallmarks. "Science of Climate Change Journal " - really? Did that seem like a neutral, considered post to you? The author sounds far from unbiased to me. You'd do well to read some of the comments on your LinxedIn stuff, to give yourself a chance at comprehension of the subject, before you stick it on here.
  22. Wordle 1,592 5/6 ⬛⬛⬛⬛🟨 ⬛⬛🟨⬛⬛ ⬛🟩⬛⬛⬛ ⬛🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  23. So, a repository for all things AI. Opinions, facts, news. Examples of good applications, or bad applications or proper fckups we can laugh about. Whatever. This thing keeps cropping up on here more and more, in relation to different subjects, so it feels like we need a thread dedicated to Artificial Intelligence. I thought it'd be interesting to gauge the group consensus on it, and hopefully the reasoning behind it. Also to have a bit more of an in depth discussion of the topic. Personally, I don't feel positive about it. That much is probably apparent by now. Maybe I'm just a cynical luddite, but maybe it's not just me. .
