  1. Morning. The latter, the ffs was a mix of shock, horror, sadness etc. All those bad vibes. I do think the author of the article had a bit of an agenda, but the essential message was correct. AI is BAD. It confirmed the opinion I already held. I'm in agreement with you. I can still see, with my own eyes rather than through an AI lens. The prospects are scary. It wouldn't be quite so bad if it wasn't being pushed on us by bad people. And it wouldn't quite so bad if so many good people didn't welcome it into their lives with open arms. I don't understand why more people aren't more sceptical. Even the boss boss of Google is in the news today saying that you shouldn't believe what AI tells you. And yet people blindly trust it. I'm not sure whether to wish for the AI bubble to burst or not. What do you think?
  2. It's pretty clear to me, social media is bad on balance. The world would be a better place without it. It drives social division and isolation, extremism, mis/dis-information, conspiracy theories; a whole host of negatives. AI could well be akin to SM on speed. Where do stand on children having smart phones?

    Jokes???

  5. You present us with a false dichotomy. Minimising the impact of AI doesn't mean we have to go back to a hand to mouth existence. I put my hand up; I want to go back 20 years. We had most of the gains to be derived from technology, without many of the risks. Equating AI with other technological advancements in history just doesn't work I'm afraid. It's on a completely different scale in terms of speed and magnitude of change to society and the world around us. I mean, what was the worst that could have happened from planting seeds, instead of foraging? It can't be uninvented, true. But it could be limited, curtailed, controlled or at the very least regulated to some extent. Non of that seems to be happening at present. It's just being foisted on us by a handful of mega rich twts seeking to make even more money from it. At the expense of us and the planet. BTW - I've yet to see anyone on here extolling any of the virtues of AI. How exactly is it beneficial to me? Or anyone else? Why do we need it? I'm quite capable of looking information up on a search engine, writing a job application or speaking to a friend on the phone if I need a chat.
  6. FFS.
  7. Check you for decadence. I'm normally too lazy, so just grate it and then mix with some vinegar and a pinch of salt and sugar. Goes nicely in a cheese sandwich I've found. I also put HR in Fire Cider and Sauerkraut sometimes. So the Brassica family. Must be vying with the Apiaceae, (Umbelliferae) family for culinary usefulness.

  9. There's a saying about horse radish. Something like: once you've got it, you've got it forever. That's certainly the case in my experience. Not complaining though, it's great stuff. Amazingly potent when fresh. Nothing better for clearing the sinuses!
  10. Having olives and lemons and that is nice like, but I'd rather they couldn't grow in this country. We're starting to get viable vineyards around the place as well now.
  11. That's good going. I've always worked on the advice that supermarket bulbs can have viruses. Looks like you've dispelled that as a myth.
  12. Proper olives. In the cold, dark UK. Who'd have thought it?
  13. 100% success rate with the garlic so far this year. That'll be a good few quids worth next summer.

  17. The curtain was the most ridiculous thing about that. I think the American housemaid cooking one was more of a giggle.

  19. Again, not AI, but another example of government incompetence and IT fckups. Hopefully it's not the start of a new Horizon type scenario. 20. "Fell out of my bag"? Sure it didn't fall out of somewhere else?
  21. All "treated and cleaned" prior to installation apparently. Must have been an expensive process.
  22. Was? We're not yet in the past tense. Israel has destroyed more than 1,500 buildings in Gaza since ceasefire WWW.BBC.CO.UK Entire neighbourhoods controlled by Israel have been levelled in less than a month, the images show.
  23. Batten down the hatches folks.
