  1. Yeah reliability in general, not just enginewise. Everything. Stihls dont fall apart or rattle screws loose, or crack when you reverse over them with a full load of chip.
  2. Our milkman in Aldbrough drives one of those in white. Im sure of it.
  3. Society?? WTF
  4. was that explained to the client beforehand???Only, I cant see the point of that job???
  5. That is the single best post you have ever posted mate. A real eye opener. Makes you think about the fact that If everyone got a job, then it would be the job centre staff looking for work. Do they deliberatly not do their job very well. hahaha
  6. The fact you cried at all has ruined your chances of ever finding work. Give up. I'll ring job centre for you now. But be aware there may be a que.
  7. why not suggest soil decompaction and erecting a huge fence around the tree and then putting a wrecking ball through the Youth hostel instead. If it is a record holding tree then it needs preserving. Green landmarks are the future, or is that the past??? Just a thought.
  8. since when where Husqvarna "alot cheaper" than Stihl????
  9. which one the the colours where you refering to???
  10. in response to Lumberjack2 : My comments may have appeared specific to you, but they werent aimed as such. More at the generic society as a whole. I thought you may have posted tongue in cheek by the way you said claiming off the government. haha Attitude is a major contributor to progression in life and career, and you seem to have a really good one. Keep it. I always say, I'd wash cars for a fiver before I went on the dole.
  11. If they wanted to see into the field behind, my question is, why didnt you suggest clearing / thinning from ground upwards?? Leaving a lovely view through a couple of nicely shaped trees that will produce dappled shade, instead of a nigh on hedgrow that will never look right and will only block the view from the ground.?? If it was a hawthorn hedge reduction or similar, fair play, well done, but it wasnt it was 2 trees whose natural reaction will be to put more growth on upwards, meaning more expense for the customers rabbit viewing habits in the future. Whereas a crown thin / canopy raise would have saved the natural shape and integrity of the trees and given pleasent "windows" through the branches to look beyond. It may have also added to the longevity of the trees for the future generations of people who like to spy on foxes and rabbits.
  12. EXACTLY. HERE HERE. Just because local tree workers to you dont have much work on, doesnt mean theres no work out there. Theres is alwyas something needing doing. Plus, immediatley seeking jobseekers is the laziest thing ever. Jobseekers allowance is around £90 a fortnight yeah, (so i understand). Id rather work 7 days a week for pittence than sit on my bum claiming theres no work for me. If your straight outta college, desperate to carry on doing tree work, then why not start at the very bottom, offer your services for as many hours per day as they want you, for £20 day rate. You may soon find your learning and earning as you go. You may also find small amounts tot up to big amounts, £20 a day may seem such a measly amount to a company that they may offer you 7 days a week (weekends in yard, splitting logs etc).14 days on the trot is £240. Give your folks their £40 board and you have £100 a week. Double Jobseekers and you are carrying on learning all the time and staying on the job you love. You may also find a top job waiting for you down the line. Please note this is the ramblings of a very stressed out Frank, as my wifes waters have broke and baby has shown no signs of wanting to be evicted from her belly. We are just in limbo, waiting.
  13. Have many of you been called out to finish what someone has started and couldnt handle?? I have and it gives me soo much pleasure and pride to be able to make the job look simple through knowledge and experience, gaining a very good reputation. In any trade, reputation is everything. "Perception is reality". So what customers / clients percieve you as, is what they believe you are. I pride myself as being percieved to be honest, well spoken, knowledgable, experienced, reasonably priced, etc, etc. I have had fair few customers remark over the quality of work produced and the fact there will always be work for "people like me". Are they right?? Only time will tell.
  14. Get involved, jump aboard.Aggro is the best song ever to hype me up for work.[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTA_lbszldM&feature=related]YouTube - The Enemy - This Song Is About You[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6tCaEYnDfs&feature=related]YouTube - We'll live and die in these towns[/ame][ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uksaEEaS40E]YouTube - the enemy aggro[/ame]
  15. The enemy are on constant loop in the van at the mo.[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GU5s0NN5ks&feature=channel_page]YouTube - Its Not Ok[/ame]
  16. thats a bit "deep" and not guaranteed. Nothing in life is. If there was more public awarenees over whos the real deal and who isnt, i.e trade bodys like Corgi etc, then the fly-by-nights, would literally fly by night and you lot would have more jobs to qoute for.
  17. why not??? If you priced the jobs fairly so as to make profit and not loss, then work is work, you will also get a good reputation for doing a fantastic job at reasonable rates. thats 4 jobs that someone else has not got.
  18. why not?? weight?? why not just rig the saw of a pulley or summat so its not attached to you directly??? who said it has the biggest crown spread?? biggest for a monterey?? or any tree?? where is this infomation logged?? Im interested now. In america they have the largest trees logged and measured for volume etc. The different states argue over whos got the biggest one.
  19. its pretty much all they grow.
  20. Frank

    Is this true?

If I can point out at least 10 things to change on a Husky top handled saw within around 30 seconds of holding one, then how come "THE GLOBAL LEADERS IN OUTDOOR POWER EQUIPMENT" cant.
  21. speaking of large trees, I heard all that bout the uk's tallest tree. Is there any record or anything done on the Uk's Largest tree, i.e volume etc. Would be interested in finding out.
  22. what makes me laugh, and sometimes scared, is all these college leavers going self employed / becoming freelance or whatever. Yet when you speak to them and ask if they have done this or that, they say "oh we brushed upon the subject for a day at college". Like Shrek has said before, I wouldnt have dared go self employed until I knew there wasnt a tree in the world that I wasnt 110% confident in being able to handle. Only the BEST will survive, its natural selection. (thats me stuffed then) It doesnt matter how big a company is.

    Saying hello

you have to have good palms to be a woodturner, its how you hold the chisel.
  24. when I saw the title for this thread, I thought it was aimed at me but nevermind haha. What a geezer.!!!!!!!1
  25. Own kit, transport and insurance are nothing unless you absoltely positively know that there isnt a tree alive that you cannot tackle. I have heard stories about subbies / freelancers turning up like the cavalry, then not having a clue and having to ask the others what to do.
