  7. elm reduction, spec to reduce as much as poss but leaving it looking good, so just done a reduction a-la-josh before after before after and various other after shots its bigger than it looks in the pics, dwarfed the 6 storey buildings around it, some bits over freshly planted garden roped off
  8. to be honest it sounds like a very time consuming way of using an alaskan from my understanding of what you propose, youd have to stabalise the log, set all the legs at diffrnet heights for the mill to be level on rough ground, so any measure on the legs will be no use as each one will be diffrent to have the mill level, youd then need to faf about with bolting the alaskan onto the bar on with the ladder between alaskan rails and bar, then set the depth on the alaskan, taking into account the ladders depth. mill a plank off, reset the 4 legs by the same ammount prob using a tape measure, to lower the jig to mill another plank mill a plank off, reset the legs again mill a plank off reset ect wheras the alaskan,, screw the ladder on, mill, remove ladder, set plank depth, mill, mill mill! sorry for being a pessimist, keep thinking though!
  9. i know, the lack of rain is a real pain, constant sunshine and blue skys is too idylic:001_tongue: you can be my chamber maid if you like mate?? theres lots of trees! haha, seems to be alot of work, i know another arbtalker has got a job over here last week. keep an eye on arbjobs. i think companys really look for people at the start of the season, around march, for when everywhere starts to thaw out in april
  10. a few non work ones from the midsommar celebrations this weekend, the pic of the sky is as dark as it gets at night:thumbup:
  11. for any saw i just use the non bungie tool strops with the metal ring, one of the long ones as ive a long reach! the beech doesnt look too bad, just a shame about the gap on the left, why do you think it diddnt turn out as well as you hoped? (if you know what youre not happy with, you'll not do the same next time!)
  12. nice one martin, i know what you mean about the reverted leaves!

  16. sounds very simple. but try looking for pictures of a broadleafed woodland, then a conifer plantation, look at the diffrences. if i were doing it id be looking at google earth, spotting a nearby plantation (gonna be a dark green matt with parrallel lines of planting visible) and spotting a nearby woodland. take a day out and go visit them, the answers will literally be infront of youre eyes, you will learn a heck of a lot more viewing it than copying it off the net! goodluck
  17. Cheers yeah, a few k's of kit, machinery brought here is around 30% higher than uk haha, i almost remember what a conifier is . . . infact i havent seen a conifer since ive been over here
  18. i think its intresting, reading through this thread, that the people who have used it reckon its worth it, and continue to use it, and those that havent used it think its a gimmick
  19. looks good rob one from yesterday, shame its blury, sod knows how to photoshop!
