  1. The chicane is mid line attachable, so while they were copying that they were bang on. It's the original design of the zig zag that is a problem. Petzl are obviously trying to get in on the srt market (even though they insisted on no srt for zig zag originally). No being able to attach it via spliced eye end, but needing to avoid termination knots is just annoying. My RW will still be getting plenty of use, but I'm happy with what the petzl set up can do so far.
  2. In fact two flaws really! Not midline attachable is the main one. But also if using a spliced eye (as we are told we should) then it will only go on one end of the rope, but sometimes while setting up srt you end up not using the end you think you are going to use. It's fine for top anchoring your line and then switch to Ddrt which is how ill use it, but for many applications setting a hitch after the line is installed is much easier.
  3. I don't think Kevin Bingham has anything to worry about!! It all works well enough but the zig zag for srt still has one major flaw (to be discussed) that stops it being a true SRT device. I'm happy with it, for what I need it for, though so far.
  4. Don't know yet. I don't think it needs a neck tether as it's so stiff but it is designed to be connected via the extra hole in the zz to stop it falling below the waist when not loaded. Will try it tomorrow. I agree with the comments about stealing the design. But I think (even though I've not tried it) that they might have ironed out some issues. The whole stiff tether attachment was always a bit of a bodge on. To keep it stiff it needed to be connected directly to the lower krab on a hitch climber pulley. Or attach it via a separate connector and lose the stiffness. I think I'll still use WR HC combo, but I'm looking for smoother switch back and forth if possible.
  5. It looks like exactly what the chicane is trying to achieve but without the easy on/off with a standard karabiner. Ok for all day srt I guess. Just ugly.
  6. Your non matching dmm krab is more worrying than CE marks!!
  7. Can't say being fully CE compliant is actually high on my to do list.
  8. Chicken? Think I meant chicane, but chicken might do from now on!!
  9. I did use the zz quite a lot but settled with a hitch combo in the end. This new system seems good though. New zz arrived today and there is some flex at the connection point but it's quite limited, so the chicken should push itself up the rope quite well. Won't get a chance to use it till Tuesday.
  10. Doesn't it slip at the old zig zag end of the Petzl OK? Slip maybe not the right word, flex maybe? Once the whole system is rigid it would work much better I would think. Theres an aluminium rigid tether for the rope wrench that looks great but rather over engineered maybe, this chicane thing (with its proper biners) looks better if you might want to switch between Ddrt and SRT, its just a simple karabiner to undo.
  11. I've ordered 3 from you. Thanks. I think that is a good design idea, adds to the expense but should make it work well. Look forward to trying it.
  12. Not tried it yet as I dont have any Krabs to fit. Other biners might fit but the whole point seems to be that you need to use a new Petzl OK as it will fit rigidly and therefore make the whole tether/handle rigid. In which case it will only work properly with the new zig zag. The old type would be ok but the conections will "fold" if thats the correct description. To avoid it you could use a neck tether like the WR but I think that can be avoided with the proper set up. Yes, Mark. My 6 or so OK's are all like that.
  13. So I got me on of those chicanes! Don't know why really as I have full srt kit with a hitch/climber and I have a zig zag for Ddrt, but I thought why not try it with the zig zag for srt ascent on jobs where I will probably switch back to Ddrt The attachment hole wont fit my petzl Ok Karabiners in it?? In the instructions it says use only and "OK" or an "AM'd" Karabiner. Has the design of the Petzl OK's changed to a different profile? It does look as though, with the right karabiner fitted, it will hold rigidly in place. I was concerned that karabiner attachment would mean it would flop around but I don't think it will. Also, the new zig zags with the extra hole also look as though one hole is especially designed to fit a certain profile only and hold it firmly in place. I'm sure someone knows all this already, but I couldn't find any info and I'm just slow to catch on!
  14. Do a chainsaw course and get a job as a groundie for 1_2 years. If you can't get employment then you'll never get anywhere. Teach yourself from online stuff while you are employed as a groundie. Do further tickets when you feel you need them. Otherwise just throw 2k out the window. 2k of courses won't guarantee you anything.
  15. Struggling with photo!!
  16. I just made this. Worked out around £250.00 for one side bust I already had the hinges etc.
  17. Been out once so far...
  18. No help at all but I just picked these two up off of e bay. Now what?
  19. I don't bother adding anything. If someone's gets back to me months later I decide if I want the job at the price I quoted or not. I'm not obliged to do it. I might say I want to re quote if I feel that's appropriate. Never had to do that in 20yrs but I know of a few dead trees still standing that would be much more now then when I last quoted them!
  20. Maybe it does but he didnt use social media to express his views (in the end). Like posting someone a written birthday card is whole different thing to fb book post or worse of all moon pig! (not sure moon pig is social media but you get my point.
  21. Don't have the app on your computer then it should only give notification when you open it in a browser? Or can it do it anyway. The Mrs kids use my computer then she sends me messenger messages that pop up on the screen while they are doing homework! That could go horribly wrong! Given them both their own sign in now!
  22. I got rid of fb on my phone. Still have an account though, so office work takes time scrolling through other people lives in attempt to delay writing that quote for job I don't want! Instantly turned my phone from a moronic time waster into a sophisticated computer able to help me with information that's actually useful. Still has arbtalk on it though! But that's the only "social" media on it. Messenger and what's app don't count do they?
  23. Rupe

    Hit and run .

Approx 90% of cyclists are probably motorists maybe. (I'm making this up) but motorists moan at cyclist a d them go out on their bikes at weekends. Same with cyclists, I was out in a small group on Sunday and then drove a car later in the day. We are all just road users.
  24. Had to Steve. Did a corsican last week, good 80 footer, all the branches in the top 20feet. Up it in 10minutes from arrival on site and still with energy to finish it and get to next job. If I could have footlocked it I would have been more tired plus ankles dont like footlocking now. SRT definitely not as smooth, and so feels a lot less posey than slick Ddrt can feel, but the job just gets done quickly. Dont think I will be going to the show this year.
  25. Hi, well no, can't run at all at the moment. Its been two years since I did a whole triathlon. I had Achilles problems and then when that was better another problem came along. Turns out to be arthritis in one ankle, which I now believe to be because of footlocking. I was never any good but footlocking was my main access method for 15 years. Anyway, day to day I have no trouble at all, only running. So, simple solution, no more running but lots more swimming. I swim 3 to 4 times a week in coached swim sessions, going really well and feeling fitter than ever with no injuries. Got a few long swim events planned for this year. Do you fancy a go at triathlon then Reg? Tree climbing is too easy so we need a challenge these days!
