  1. Still not quit but nearly. the answer is 6.11 kgs. You are correct except you dont add 11% of 5.44, instead you work it so that 5.44 is 89%, its that difference that was confusing us, you got the first bit right. 68% of 8kgs is 5.44 and if 5.44 is 89% of the finish then it weighs 6.11kgs
  2. YOu keep beatign me to it dean! Yes your correct. Paper rusrtler, just put logs in the net and don't worry about % stuff, you made my brain acknwoledge its own extistance and thats bad!!
  3. Me too. I can see what I mean but I can't write it! Its like back workign VAT, you don't use 15% you need another mumber. If I weigh 100 kgs and I'm 20% fat. My fat weighs 20kgs. if my fat content goes down to 10% thats a 10% reduction in fat content but not necessarily 10kgs loss in total weight, its not that simple. so it doesn't mean I know weigh 90kgs, because 10kgs (my remaining fat) is NOT 10% (my new fat content) of 90kgs!!!!
  4. NO the 5.25 is the new weight, the reuction in weight was the amount you said. But it was still wrong.
  5. Yes dean is closer, I was referring to STS
  6. I'm wrong but the above is still not right. weight lost by drying is not 21%, then 21% of the original etc etc, because that assumes the 21% lost was lost from the whole mass of wood, when in fact it was only lost from the moisture content part of it. So it 21% lost from the 32% that was moisture??
  7. Only8 Kgs to start with!! Thats not right htough, its only the moisture that has changed in weight not the wood. So with the calc above the 2.75kg is the reduction in weight then taken away from the original to leave 5.25kgs Oh you edited already! Correct 8000g.
  8. I sent off the V5 of my new truck a week ago to change the body type to "tipper" and I corrected a typo in my comapany name spelling while I was at it. But it came back with the typo corrected and the body type remained as "drop side". I had a quick look on tinternet and it looks as though I may have to provide proof of these changes? Anyone know much about this? I'm not sure I can be bothered TBH.
  9. Cheers. The radar still picks up the fact the we are not breaking any speedlimits! Thats is unavoidable, I dream of gettign caught speeding in an LDV, I have so much space on my license its embarrassing!
  10. Yep, pretty much done, thanks. And its workign well. The back corners flap a bit but not enought to worryh about, probably more worrying to whoever is following! The sides don't seem to "drum" at all, but maybe we can't hear them? Have been working hard and its earning its keep so far. It is still waiting for some under body tool storage and sign writing. Cash flow still not flowing!
  11. As a first saw I would go for 300mm zubat, see how you get on and take it from there.
  12. The landscaping project would be the best, but its not as dangerous as the word "cyanide" suggests. Maybe don't put it near livestock or fruit and veg just to be sure, other than that don't worry about it.
  13. Glow in the dark clothes pegs are always a good choice
  14. Shouldn't it be called "Peacing with rain" island?
  15. and I thought that a hi viz vest was all that was needed to make someone proffesh and all!
  16. Totally agree with all that! Thats why I stick to the cheapo LDV chip truck. My chipper was new but I have no other finance. Getting myself a quad in the next few week too, its the one I've used and borrowed many times but they are finally lettign it go for a days tree work. Quad project comign up soon!!
  17. When I tender for LA work they tell me who tendered, who won it and what the rices were. But not who put in which price. There are usually 4 tenders, sometimes 5. If I know what my price was and the the winner had the lowest price then I can guess which price goes to which other contractor. Without that information I would not be able to keep tendering. I have a letting agent who has asked me to quote twice for soem biggish jobs and I never got them. They asked again cos they always need 2 quotes but I refused, I don't want to be used as a "second quote" to help get the cheap bloke the quote each time, so unless they tell me who it is and at waht price I don't want to be involved. So, going back to the LA, they really should tell you, and if not then as mentioned above any memebr of the public (including you) can request the information and they must give it.
  18. No, your mark up is actually contained withign those figures, i.e. the chipper doesn't actually cost you 100 a day and neither does the truck, you charge them out at that much cos of the valuable work they do, they probably cost more like 30 a day each to own and run so thats a good "mark up". The guys are probably closer to 100 each a day so you have less mark up on them. The gross proffit is almost like the average mark up, and can only be calculated after the job is doen and the cost are taken inot account. Mostly you would only get you gross proffit amount at the end of the year from your accountant. Buzz was sayign he "only" ever achieved 22% gross profit which on its own is a meaningless statement. If I had half a million turnover I would be happy with 22% gross proffit. The actual amoun tof your profit is the only thing that matters, not what percentage it is from your gross income. 10% of 1 million is the same as 20% of 500K and the same as 40% of 250K etc etc. We all need to work towards getting our highest possible turnover for the employees and kit we have availabel and then either expand or reduce costs in order to increas that bottom line figure. Attaching ourselves to % is not really ideal. In Davids original example its possibel that the pipe laying company marks up its employee costs far less than we do as they may be less skilled, and then they rely on the mark up of the pipe but that doesn't mean they make more than us percentage wise over all.

    Rookery?? Mistletoe clumps maybe?
  20. He would in normal cicumstance. But there is always a risk of not gettign paid so any initila pay out needs to be rewarded.
  21. No, you can't invoice it so that you end up with the percentage you want. You have to decide what your mark up is and use that. If you mark up your cost by 20% then that fine. (400x20%)+(400x20%)=960. Or you could use a higher mark up to give you a higher gross profit, but you can't just decide what you want the final figure to be and then add the 200 to achieve it.
  22. As far as I know its all contracted out to tree companies, nothing is done "in house" by mod employed personell. Occasionaly they carry out some dimsantling work on salisbury plane using tanks and therefore combining tree work and target practice at the same time!!
  23. Have you seen my Beech take down pics on here? I'll get persecuted if I add a link to them as most have seen it twice already!! Actually not much winching went on so any good bollard would have done the job.
  24. I've got pictures of it set up but not much of it doing anything as its usually all hands workign at that point and no one taking pictures.
  25. Been away for a week, anything important happened here or in the world in general?
