  1. Yeah but, why did you have them already?? Did you do it while in the SAS? I'm genuinly interested, was meanign to ask you when I next saw you but since you started your own thread I thought I would ask. I always thought it seemed a big truck for a youngster like your self?
  2. Yeah but, did you have those already?? or take an extra test? I have C1E on my license is that the same thing?
  3. Its just when you take a top out on a lowerign line, the line goes slack for a bit and then "snatches" tight again. This is the way most likely to snap ropes, break riggign point or throw the climber around, especially if done in the old school meathod of wrappign the lowerign line round the tree. Its best to minimise this snatch as much as possible or completly by usign a decent lowerign bolloard and havign a groundie who knows what he's doing. Then snatchign is not really snatching anymore its just controlled lowering of a section form above the riggign point. Therefore snatchign is a fairly outdated term but probably still in use all over the place.
  4. Pete, another question mate.........Did you have to upgrade your driving license in any way? HGV?
  5. No, some modern rubbish, surely??
  6. Ok. I'm happy now. Before it was fine, but hard to manoevre and easy to overload. You made it more simple to use and fit for purpose! Like it. Wasn't sure if it was something that "had" to be done or not. I do like it though, i'll put one on the list. I'm think of another LDV project first though. camper van!
  7. ANd the crunchie plane, based down the road from me.
  8. I'm tryign to find photos.... These ones have external/seperate harnesses but you get the idea
  9. Yeah, he stopped for a "moment" with himself! Only possible excuse is that it was an old GQ harness, which without a rope attached (we never had lanyards then) ther woud be no jingly janglies on it at all so almost invisible. I could spot it when I drove past though! I've seen the Crunchie wing walker girls in the supermarket in their flying gear and harnesses but thatr was completetely excusable! (The harnesses are built/sewn into the fling costumes so not that easy to remove!)
  10. Not carrying much in that state. Can you explain the build process Ed? Genuinly interested.
  11. Good pics. Robins are well cheeky!! HAd one nearly come and take my sandwich the other day. Chicken nibbles it is then.
  12. I think one-armed Pete used to have one of those!
  13. Pete, I've been meaning to ask you. What was the purpose of shortening the truck? I'm guessing weights and classifications etc. but what classification was it/ is it now? Also, did it need to be shortened in order to allow for the weight of the crane? Or am i barking upt the wrong street? ( I would say tree, but thats silly)
  14. I've seen one wearing a harness going into a bank !!!!!!!
  15. Love it! Thats going on my LDV!
  16. Sure, yes I agree, on site it still needs to strong enough to prevent chancers. It at home or at its usual parkign place that it is most at risk cos folk can plan ahead and bring the right tools, so nothing is safe. We leave mine open at night, so far no numpty has tried to break in due to not realising its open! I keep meanign to tape some hair over the doors to see if people are looking in or not!
  17. Sure, dust coming out the back is a pain/ I tried venting the roof of my old one but it still happened. I've not bothered venting the new one and it is worser but not too bad, we manage ok. Its only dust though, thats much better than woodchip coming out over the top.
  18. Looks very nice quality work:thumbup1:, The only thing i would change is the locks on the tool box Looks like a gate lock i would do something abit different More secure (but just my personel preference). I would have a key lock fitted in the inside so all that is showing is the key hole and extend the ally so they can't prize down the gap (if that makes sense) Or leave it empty and un locked so they can look in as much as they like?
  19. Rupe

    Log splitters

Oh and mine is cheaper and 23 tons so nearly same same but different.
  20. Rupe

    Log splitters

That one look pretty good, but they suggust that as it has a 50mm tow hitch that that makes it "ready to go to work" but that is definatly not road legal even if it has got some little indicators on it. Never mind though, shove it on a trailer and of you go. Mine (petrol) has a tow hitch on which i just use for moving it round the yard on the back of the quad.
  21. Nice looks good, and nice and smooth on the inside. Roof? Could do with a least three quarters of it roofed IMO.
  22. Stevie, beign up a hill is a hobby. Spend all your free time doing that and the rest of the world can chase its own tail as much as it likes.
  23. We need, writers, thinkers, analysts, philosophers and all manner of other talents in this world, not just grafters. In fact if we were all grafters the world woud be in a right state, somebody has to stay behind and get others things organised. Encouragement should be for everybody whatever their strengths. APart from lazy teenagers of course, get them splitting wood I say!!
  24. I was going to say women, but they are just a sideline hobby really!
  25. And try and get all the nut/bolts/rivets tools etc etc in one place before you start. You can lose a day just chasing after stuff! Get extra of everything so you never go back for more!
