  1. The SWL must be greater than two person, which it will be with a ropeguid and all friction savers so ni worries. Lets say the ropeguide is rated at 24Kn (I dont have the figures to hand but that would be about right!!! ) using a 10:1 safety margin gives you a SWL of 240kgs, well thats two people easily.
  2. Lunges all round and some helmet cam crashes I guess!!
  3. Only boarding since then, and never really got the hang of it! No gloves, it was summer and quite warm at lower altitudes, skiied in shorts quite a bit!!
  4. Heres my last attempt at skiing in 1990. Notice the free heels! Never actually down hilled on actual down hil skis, only ski mountaineering skis with lockable heel that I left un locked for the telemark style! Still not quite true telemarking but nearly!!
  5. Thanks for all the responses, it is now sorted! Ben, nice one! Lets hope for some snow!
  6. Treeundertakers more like!!
  7. Ah, thought I might know you. Which one were you then? Well Ben looks keen but last I heard there was four places available so if there still is ( I can't check now till the morning) then you and GF could have the other room and I can drive us all to gatwick. It is 20th to 27th so thats next monday!! £149.0 is pretty much everything except lift pass which might be as much or even a bit more. The original holiday price was £570. not including lift pass. Check with the girlfriend and get back asap!
  8. Just waiting for Ben to get back to me? Where are you based?
  9. 1850 is nearly completely owned by russians now and completely out of reach for mere mortals!!! There is a shop there that sells £3000.oo diamond encrusted nokia phones!!
  10. That is big hairy Ben that I know isn't it??
  11. No I'm pretty slow!! And thinking about switching to skiing not boarding!! Where are you these days??
  12. I've not booked it yet!! My friend let me down and says he cant get time off work!! I need one person to share with me and that would be £149 each. If a couple want to come then I would still be in a room by myself with £149 surcharge so split between three of us thats £199 each!! I'm not going on my own and paying £149 twice! It may not even be still available??? But was as of close of business saturday, and its not advertised anywhere its friends and families of the company only.
  13. Still available I think. Any couples wanting to get away would be fine, although that would make it 3 people in four spaces (two rooms) so an extra 50 quid each, but still under £200 for flights/transfers/catered chalet with breakfast/tea/evening meal and wine all included!!! Just spending money and lift pass required.
  14. Remove the seats and take it to a vosa place and they can check it and re register it as a three seater??
  15. Ok, long shot, but I have the deal of the century for a week in Courcheval. The downside is you have to share with me and miss xmas!! If there is anyone available to go 20-27th december (yes thats a week today) without getting divorced or dis owned then let me know ASAP!!! I need one person as I have been let down, but there are actually 4 places available in total, so a couple or 3 people would be fine. if you would really rather leave the country over christmas but have never dared then do it now!! Any takers?
  16. There is no legislation that covers it. The vehicle must be roadworthy etc etc. and the driver is responsible for loading it, and that would include checking the the chip box is not going to fall off mid journey! Lots of home builds on here, I could put up a link but I dont like showing pictures of my truck! If you are happy working with aluminium then the ally planking route would be ideal. SOmeone will have a link for a supplier I'm sure.
  17. Its almost better to be not insured but to know your not insured than to have everyone on site having seperate insurances but no one actually taking responsibilty. I don't have any problems with small companies doing back garden work without insurance, as long as they are not deceiving the customer into thinking that they do have it. Minor breakages are nearly always paid for by the contractor. The insurance should be that the contractor "re assures" the client that nothign will be broken and if it is it will be fixed. Saying that its all ok cos we are insured is not as good IMO, as insurance is so rarely used for small things. So its almost like a claim that we are proffesional and so we can break stuff, rather than being proffesional and not breaking stuff in the first place, but standing by your mistake if you do. Of course if you are working along a roadside etc then insurance is a good thing, and also for employing people it is a legal requirement but that still does not mean it always happens.
  18. I thought of that, but maybe if they are not insured at all then they dont care about such things and then wouldnt mind having an extra person cos everyone is already not insured!!?
  19. No, you dont need either. The companies you work for (even as a student) should have public liability cover and the cant get you to do any work you are not trained in or supervised for. You would then be covered for accidents on their Employees liability insurance. Personal accident insurance might be handy if you are self employed and have risky hobbies, and it might payout for accidents at work but the employeers liability insurance is the fisrt one to claim from. Any companies tha tsay they cant take you on as a student due to insurance, probably just dont want to take you on, or dont understand what they are insured for or not.
  20. Do you mean personal injury insurance or public liability insurance?
  21. Brillo pads!! Works a treat, but you need some elbow grease!!
  22. Stevie, even if you are giving away the timber (and its shape is not important to you and the job in hand) you should (or could) still consider that someone is going to split it one day. Good climbers should be better than that IMO. Think beyond what is best for you, and think about what is going to give a better result for all overall.
  23. My cleaner brings her own Miele rather than use my old Henry!!! Saves me havign to buy new bags!! The henry gets used to hoover the shed now and then!
  24. So you could just use a footlock prussik and work off the access line with another one or install a new one when at the top? I do see the advantages of this system but only really for working the tree on the way up, you can switch from FL to workign system and back again without having without the usual messing around of attaching another line onto the access one, but to make it work properly you need a friction saver installed which is not so easy, the easiest way is a pulley on the end of a single line, so thats messing with 2 lines already so not much advantage? Or install a 2 ring FS from the ground and pull half your rope through it then attach friction knots etc etc. all a bit complicated IMO.
  25. What about henrys?? Thats a man hoover even though they are not that great. A man should not have a good hoover, that way when the missus moves in they take over the hoovering. If you already have the best hoover then get on with it your self. This is an argument that it is best to lose.
