  1. I agree with that!! I got given a pair and they are ok, but for the money (I'm not sure what they cost??) I think you would be better off with some of the climbing trousers from outdoor equipment manufacturers. Mamut, mountain equipment, berghaus etc. they all make really good ones, and even though stretchair might be the best chainsaw trousers, those other companies have a far better pedigree when it comes to making clothing.

    Ba humbug!!

New boiler goes in tomorrow. Aparently the thermostat will have an automatic failsafe in it as you said, which turns it all on if the temp goes below 5 degrees. But the guy didn't know of any antifreeze you could add? He pumped out and cleaned the old sytem today and used an additive to clean and protec the pipework, but then after that its just water that gets added to the heating system. Thats what he told me anyway.
  3. I'm with you on that! Got a mates Birthday on the 5th of feb to go to, so please anyone got a decent invitation for me between now and then, I'll take anything, funerals whatever!
  4. Thank you!!! Although, I am chuffed to bits that I now know that I can reverse a truck up to a chipper and chip into it anytime I want!! That is going to make life so much easier from know on!! I wonder if anyone else uses that method? This could change tree work for everyone for ever!!!
  5. Straight fells all of them. Maybe 60-70foot at the most. How does that effect the day rate of a MOG and a two blokes chipping? We are still not looking at subbing out the whole job, although that is still an option. If that happens then of course site visits and fixed price quotations will be required, in the short term and idea of costs at day rate ( I estimate 3 days) is required.
  6. Whats the going rate for the ideal candidate that you expected to get in the Algarve?
  7. Cheers for all responses. No one is actually given me a rate yet. Or what they can do for X amount etc. I just need an idea so I can price it. There are 110 seperate trees, but all close together, so a vast amount of chipping, and moving of chips. So, the best way of movign all the chip in as few loads as possible, is what I'm looking for. Dumper trucks = 100+ loads of chips = lots of mess and one bloke driving all day. For a day rate, I'm not expecting on site 8-5 or anything silly like that, nice easy days of solid work, easy peasy lots of tea etc..
  8. This thread is not titled "please can someone tell me how to do my job". I know all the possible ways of doing it, reversing, my truck up hill, through a wood land (20+ times) is not one of them. I have various methods in mind, if I can get a rate for a suitable Mog, than that is one method sorted and can be priced up, the other methods are priced up already and we will see what suits the client best.
  9. And yo need to PM me a rate, so that I can work out the price. In the event that I just sub out the work as a whole then of course I would tell you where it is and get a fixed priced quote.
  10. What have you got then? You still didn't tell me that bit.
  11. You mog has a chip box on it doesn't it? So access would be easy with two wheel steering. The access is through a gate but then in and around some trees so not a straight line. The work area is big enough to three point turn a mog easily (and even easier once some trees are gone!) But we need to keep damage to minimum thats why I'm not keen on lots of kit going in and out. I'm just pricign up for now so make me an offer? I can supply workforce if you really wanted to drive you mog down but I don't think the job as a whole is worth makign that effort for. Its like three days work but you would add a day traveling on the each end of that plus accomoodation, so I dont think it would work. I can still do it all with a tracked chipper and chipp onto 3-4 piles if necessary, just looking for an easy way to get the chip moved out of the garden if possible.
  12. Thanks but I dont think there is access for a trailer. YOu would never turn it in the space, and it wouldn't articlulate enought to get round the bend. A mog could reverse in and out of the work area if required.
  13. Its exactly in the kidderminster/worcester/hereford triangle area. Have you got a MOG?

Yes they will. Dont be fooled into thinking that the AA is an automobile freindly company, its just an insurance company like every other one advertised on the telly. They take your money for the what if, and when the what if happens they do as little as possible for you. Generally the AA are pretty good, but anyway its just an insurance policy, no more than that.

It was the water pipes to the sink that burst, and the internals of the boiler so additive might not have helped. The heatign sytem was low on pressure, enough to stop it working but had not burst or leaked out anywhere, so still not sure the order of things but as long as the insurance pay for new boiler then I'm ok. The kitchen was sprayed with water rather than deluged. a bit of decoratign and tiling and it will be fine.

How would that work if the power goes off while I'm in France? Actually it might have been that some pressure came out of the central heating system so it stopped working, then froze up, then the power went of when the burst pipes thawed. Not really sure what order anything happened but I did leave the heatign on when I went away.

Yes, all seems to be bad luck my way!! I think someone mentioned that I sound like Mr Lofthouse!!! The boiler will be covered by insurance so its not the end of the world but I just want it fixed and then there is the redecorating to do. Courchevel was good thanks. Enough snow just about at the start and then masses!!! Skiing in whiteout was fun!!
  18. What about a portaledge? Not cheap, but you can hang them anywhere.
  19. Will do. Anyone else? I think mog with built in chip box would be ideal rather than trailer etc, space is still tight, but all worth considering.

    Ba humbug!!

Happy new year everyone! Had a good time skiing, got home to burt pipes and flooded kitchen!!! Ruptured the inside of the bolier, still no hot water or heating, not happy!! So I don't care how nice your christmases were!
  21. Does anyone have a Mog and chipper available in the Worcester/Hereford/Leominster Area? Either to hire with an operator on day rate or with a 2-3 man gang to do the whole job on fixed price? All chip to stay, tipped in next door field. Its 110 lawson cypress to fell, access is good for a mog only. I could do it with a tracked chipper and chip on site but we are trying to find a way of having all the woodchip in a seperate location and a Mog would be the only way I think. Please let me know if anyone interested, prolly 3 days (depending on numbers in the crew) and the mog could stay there overnight.
  22. Well maybe not!! But it still wont break! You would just have to throw it away if used for 2 big units !!
