  1. just watched the one about them being cowboys in brazil... if thats anything to go by then logging in canada is gona be good. (axewomen v's axemen) ooh that just conjured an image!
  2. nice one rupe i got 2 tabletops that aren't used any more so am looking at hiring them out. previously when i used them all the time i wouldn't let them go for love nor money but they just collect dust now.
  3. so he's that guy in the specksavers ad then:001_tongue:
  4. it might show the level of support for free entry also dean has a point but we need to start somewhere and if we get a result in 2 years time then its been worth it besides we all know how long it takes to change things in our industry. send a link to the forestry journal too...that will ruffel some feathers!!!!
  5. took this photo 8 years ago when the lightening hit it bark was blown over most of the houses in the area upto 300 ft away. no damage though to any house. if this tree ever comes down:thumbdown: i will let you know how the wood burns:001_cool:
  6. hey steve is there any way this sites software could email every member to encourage them to join in on this debate and would it be too late to get a poll running?? its almost like a petition, after all the show is only 47 days away.
  7. they lost stuff in locherbie too
  8. isn't it known as the chipper and stump grinder show????
  9. straight away that says only good to drag brushwood and may put him up a tree if time at end of day. take jamie's advice: Try and get some trial days with companies, work for free for a day to get to know them and some experience. but dont let the take the p*ss. only one day should be free per company. i know a turkish guy who used to work as a potwasher before and after his tickets and struggled like you but he did a few freebies and i've seen him work lately and he's not bad, come on in leaps and bounds. there will be someone who will take you on but you do have to work for it to find it. when i started in 92 i sent out 150 letters over 70 mile radius and got 15 replies. its not easy but be persistant and patient and an employer will soon see this as a quality if you find you get nowhere pm me and i will see if i can help you down here but i am in south wales
  10. does anyone know if you can actually camp there. i know some people were refused camping in the carpark last time but that was the night before the show opened i would suggest to see if ARBTALK could get members in at a discounted rate, but i know if you get a free ticket off exhibitors then they are paying for it, so apf still gets the money
  11. thats a good deal rupe nothing better than earing money of a machine when your not using it what happens if they break it?
  12. " when i bought it the label said dwarf conifer"
  13. whilst crown lifting street trees, resident comes out and says "can you take that branch off? the one right there. thats the one that drops all the leaves in my garden" nothing to do with the other 20 trees in the street then!
  14. fully agree.. they wont just cut your arm off but can get electricuted at the same time. two birds general public + chainsaw = major accident
  15. yeah set up a petition, i've never paid to get in to either arb shows as my previous employer paid for it (thankyou mr & mrs taxpayer). and saltex is an excellent setup in2006 i did work on trade stand though for the 3 days and camped over on the site for the full experience of the show. hard work in the day but good laugh in the night. i might do the same this year. all i did was contact my supplier i had spent the most money with, and yes i did get a huge discount of the next machine i bought... well worth it
  16. have you tried your local council's arb team? every time a horse yard wants wood chip down here there is no end of arborists turning up. they do anything for a pretty face....jodpurs help aswell
  17. also i believe the earths rotational axies changes over several hundred years which also changes the climate
  18. what do you charge to hire the machine out ?
  19. is that not fly tipping???
  20. find a splitter you like steve, let me know which one b4 you buy and i can ask the trailer guy by me if he can do anything for it. alternativly any fabricator could build a mounting frame and you can buy the axles, hitch and trailer board on line. job done
  21. suggestion! try b4 you buy at the apf.. would like to see some of those timberwolfs in the flesh in action... especially that 10ft one
  22. http://www.earborist.com/Log-Splitter_Road-Towable-Log-Splitter_1900.php sold by fuelwood. i have noticed that the cheap ones are only on yard wheels
  23. just had a close look at jones mtd. i had a Rabaud similar to that at 20ton. I found it hard work as bending over all the time. it was easier with 2 people. also took it out on site as you want to do and found we could only put it where a chipper could go and if carting big logs to front of house to split, it was easier to put straight on wagon. got a crane now. if splitting large quantities for over an hour i would highly recomend a table top one, or a high horizontal splitter.... saves on back ache. i understand your idea and is a great way of marketing the product. if i do go out on site to split now, i have a cheap £200 winch crane to lift my table top on and off the truck and then drag that to the wood.
  24. how mobile do you want it? what diameter are you splitting? what force do you want? how much will you be splitting per year? how much do you want to spend?
  25. well that is why they have 2 handles, take one off and it stops. the foot pedal on the thors bring the blade down to the wood but has no pressure to split if the foot pedal can allow the wood to be split then hands could still get caught under the splitting wedge
