  1. mate of mine did. routine apparently. usually a quick thinking chap, but during the inspection of several hours he had to take his time with the answers and had to make a few changes and discrepancies which h and his accountant though were perfectly fine had to be changed to the tax mans addvantage and a nice bill presented.
  2. my biggest expense is diesel, and i dont buy that much. i'm nowhere near the vat threshold and quite happy. my accountant can get me more money back off my newly purchased machinery over 3 years than the vat i paid. and yes i agree that would be mine anyway if i did not buy machinery it was worked out that i would have to pay more vat back than it was actually worth me claiming. i dont have a huge expenses list and am a small company and the vat i pay is what i have to pay. happy to pay it as i am a proffesional company and not a pikey in it for the fast buck. if i was your size then maybe there are benefits but where i live there are so many benefit cheats and people on the dole that don't need to be, i really do object to paying tax for a crap service. imo vat looks like hastle. how many of you vat registered have had an inspection and did you like/enjoy it???
  3. what %age will you charge that at and will it include delivery? discussion i went through was...firewood is a fuel so 5%, but if charged for delivery, then thats a service so had to charge 17.5%. but you buy in your wood so do you pay 17.5% for that? if so how will that transform to the customer??
  4. you are right there rupe as long as it shows on the invoice or reciept then it is "legal" for vat fuel stations dont show £1.20 +vat on the signs... its just shown on the reciept. i just know i would pay more vat to mr darling than he will give me back and wont pay me for the accounting i will have to do or colleting of money. for now, and the bleak financial future, small and simple is my direction
  5. i find i can get better tax relief off machinery on the end of year accounts than i could if i got the vat back on every thing else and had the hassle of accounts every 3 months and the cash movements of whats mine and whats the governments. also my customers wouldn't like it, the gov would waste it and the dolies would drink and smoke it. far better i have it.
  6. what chain do you guys use?? i used to use a skiptooth on mine because it was cutting with the grain. then i bough a chain off sandvick at the time which had 2 full teeth and then 2 half teeth. never really made much of a diiference but they had to be sharp and even to get nice flat even surfaces
  7. sorry rupe i find that a little unfair. i'm not registered for vat and i try to give a proffesional sevice as best i can. my customers are my bread and butter and without them i am nothing. for that reason alone i respect all my customers (even the awkward ones) and will often cater for their needs in cojunction with my products and services. i dont think being vat registered should be seen as a standard as to the quality of your business. as for a refund steve i think it can take upto 6 months depending on how much you have to pay the next quarter
  8. how long are they supposed to last??? the sole is starting to come away but still not letting any water in yet. i can put my fingers between the rubber and boot in a downwards direction.
  9. are they still there??
  10. all i'm on the green tops now but they are lasting longer than the others
  11. it will work but you also need airflow. effectivly you are making a kiln
  12. on my second pair now in 2 years. the sole did come away on the first one and looks like its starting again on the second pair. have had them since nov:thumbdown: laces rot away within weeks and snap when tying up, been tied together 4 times on each boot. insoles supplied with boot are crap and travel up the boot when you walk so put in some nice soft ones which are really comfy. dont wear the boots without insoles as they are really hard and uncomfy. why did i buy a second pair??? cos they are the most waterproof boot i have ever worn and with my insoles in they are comfy, i hate wet feet when working. i have always had sweat rash with other boots but not had any with these so they are breathable. also they are light but only do ground work with me, but i dont think they would last a climber. sorry salsb for knocking them but that is my honest opinion. would i buy another pair....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................yes!! why?? feet and no rash.....healthy feet:001_tongue: hey salsb... if you ever want boots tested give us a shout.. never had a pair of wook boots last more than a year
  13. at a guess whatever the tonage is in the round, you can double it for the cubic meterage when split £800 is that delivered inc vat????? if so take it
  14. make sure the wood is dry and properly weighed but try to buy as a cubic meter. try both types of wood and make up your own mind. thats how i sell softwood to my customers and they keep ordering more. burning wet/fresh wood will soot up your chimney though. imo the best wood is the dryest wood
  15. after being on a landrover forum i googled woodfuel forum... got nothing put in firewood forum and found arbtalk
  16. i like the fact it has a conveyer too dean, whats the obsession with tyres mate?????
  17. ah, i think i got 8 ton on the japa, i remember having the opton for more force
  18. cut and paste
  19. pull out dipstick and lay on tissue paper... this will show the level. an 8 ton ram so should push it through. occasionally the ram trigger valve stops may need adjustment. was it a 4 or6 way blade?
  20. where can i get an eye rack?????
  21. did you check your hydrolic oil level
  22. never had a problem with fouling or jaming the blade whilst cutting. only jambed the blade when a small offcut falls between blade and guard. never ever seen a processor that has managed to split every piece of wood. i've even jambed wood on my 30 ton posch
  23. i have the japa 700 and it is so easy to maintain cos there is not much to it and second hand ones come up quite often. cant comment on the hakki of similar size as never used it
  24. yep still running i wont buy from our dealer for m.large as dont like them or their service so dealt with large direct which is cheaper? i'd wait till apf....could get ex-demo cheap on last day
  25. japa and hakkie are now owned by the same holding company and are more or less the same machines. i highly recommend both main dealers for reasons said before, have no complaints and all problems sorted and spares arrive in next to no time. when i bought my heizohack richard and staff went above and beyond (after hours) when it brokedown whilst contracting to get me back working. that to me was priceless. jeffery at m.large has always gone out of his way to sort spare parts when needed. two of the nicest and most helpful men you could ever meet in the industry.
