  1. you could easily put a pto and shaft on the back of the gearbox, but would smash your gearbox to pieces after 300 hours use. Hydraulic chipper is doable but again to get the required hp through your hydraulics the engine will be revving its tits off and its not designed to run at high revs stationary. 3 years ago when I started up I had plans to do exactly same thing with a defender and I purchased all the required hydraulic and mechanical parts .......................................... I then sold them all on ebay and bought one of those unimog things
  2. thanks for your help, but I have it now from Charles
  3. any ideas how I can pick up this months copy of FJ, I don't think they stock it in Smith of wigan
  4. yeah I understand your view about the power / wasted money if the machine was straight in to the forestry industry. But im not new to the world of hydraulics and it was a simple modification to make the excavator powerful enough, i have also never wasted any company money on machinery thats doesn't pay v.good returns,
  5. I would prefer a 20 tonner to be honest, as we use for tree shears but its all about compliance with enviromental impact assessment,
  6. I know nowt about forestry equipment but want to get a harvester head that I can stick on an 8 tonne machine. Can you forestry geeks tell me the heads which have been on the market since about 1995 onwards which will do the job and not be too heavy. People obviously put them on roof mounts now so I sure there must be a few for an 8 tonner.

  15. Yeah I know your right, Im just bitter and twisted after trying everything and having so much stuff stolen. Ive had a trackers on chippers, cameras on containers, expensive locks etc. Thieves in Manchester and Liverpool have hand held devices to detect where a tracker is on a machine, they either demobilize it or just throw it away before they take machinery. I know the cable alarm is a good deterrent and everything helps but its easy to set up a circuit not going through the handles of the saws and cut the cable that is.
  16. where are the beech pics!!!

  17. A controversial view but my technique is great tool insurance from the NFU. The premium I have paid is far less than you pay financially and emotionally trying to protect kit. I never get emotionally attached to kit and had 8 saws stolen in the last 2 years and I couldn't care less.
  18. Or does anyone know anyone I will pay sweet moolah many thanks
  19. I have asked this question before in a round about way... can anyone put me in contact with any companies who would be interested in a continuous supply of processed softwood, thanks

  21. Are there individuals out there who offer training or is it just the larger companies who provide,
