i thought it might be somthing like that, cheers ian! I may see you at jonsies show! whats anyones thoughts on using firewood (ie the stuff for stoves) for woodturning? it gives me a pretty good supply for not much money so i quite like it, just wondered where e veryone else gets their stock from? Ben
  3. I was hoping to be going, but the chances of me getting paid this week are slim to none : slightly gutted, never been to an arb show before Ben

Ill bear that in mind Ian! and add it to my birthday list my latest creation: scots pine (i think) finished with beeswax any ideas on how to stop the wood grain fluffing? it only does it in a few places even though i do the same to all of the piece, no amount of sanding seems to stop it? probably one of those things.... 8. Ive got a winch on my series 3 at the moment, 12,000lb jobby. pretty quick pull on it aswell. Ive not put it to use in the arb area yet but i recon it could be very usefull!! Ben
  9. I had a dream last night where Fred Dibnah was running after me on the scuttling legs of a crab. in a tophat. I escaped in what in retrospect, I think was a steam powered volvo 240. When I got in, it was a 240. But then, after that it was a steam engine. Now Im not sure how the mechanicals would work, but in my dream that wasnt real, it seemed an effective method of perambulation. Especially when escaping Victorian obsessed Crab/Men. Ben
  10. Hey peeps ive come by a husky 16h hedgecutter that needs a new piston ring, just wondered if anyone had one kicking about, ive asked at the local garden machinery spares place and he ordered one for me last summer... and its still not come so ive given up. Ben

ive just had a look at the mini jet, it looks pretty smart, when the clarke lathe broke last month i tried to get my money back to put towards an axminster "somthing" but clarke kicked up a stink and repaired it for me! the tool rest was an incredibly poor casting lots of bubbles, lumps of slag etc. and the lathe bed flexes when any load is put on it. It was good for me to learn on, and to make sure i had the knack and ideas for it (Which i tihnk ive prooved i ahve!) just want somthing a bit fancier now! Ben

well id like to say i made the mouse on the mushroom, but i didnt. i got that for mum on mothers day. as for the purple dinosaur, mum made that in pottery class last year, i like it! artistic licence at its best, except it works!! I have similar thoughts, im hoping to be upgrading my lathe at some point this year, the fact it has no morse tapers and no tailstock chuck is infuriating. Im looking at an axminster lathe/ i do have a mini set of ashley iles chisels and i like em, id love a larger set of them but at the moment money is a real problem! Ben

ONe that i did for a friends birthday again, the other half of the bit of wood i used for my sisters birthday haha probably my best one yet, as a side line, but still related. what would be a good set of tools/chisels to get? obviously a set of rober sorby or ashley iles, unfortuantly at the momeny money doesnt permit, is the record stuff any good? Ben
