  1. Hi all,has anyone viewed the TW 150's on ebay ?....what do you think......tooo cheap??? Just a heads up. Sorry if they are genuine sales. Pat
  2. Hi ,we are based in Waltham Abbey and have a truck in the local garage with suspected fuel pump/timing problems(2004 transit!) Would anyone have a spare tip truck to rent out for the week please,my only other option is to buy another one and re sell when mine is fixed(they have already had it for a week and can't get it started! Please pm me if you can help, Thanks, Pat
  3. We were having exactly the same problem with ours,I recon that the 200t has more power than the 201 !! It does seem to use a little less fuel but that's no benefit to us when it doesn't perform as well in take downs. It will be interesting to see if FRJ have had any feedback

  5. me on bluehills.docx Completed the 400 mile Lands End Trial,3 starts and finishing in Cornwall with at least 15 off road sections navigating through the night on a home made scroll reader on handlebars!!
  6. Thanks for your responses, these are exactly the kind I expected to be honest, this is why arbtalk is so valuable to us as tree surgeons. I know I need to keep a level head on this and I also know that earnings in the west country are less but so are property prices....surely if I can scrape £100,000 off the mortgage then I wont need to earn as much. I also notice that although earnings are less you floks in the west country charge around the same for a bag of logs ! (I went into the garage at St.Erth yesterday, one bag of dried conifer logs for £3.50 ! ) Another thought is that if I moved with all my kit and threw say 3 to 4 thousand at good advertising in the first year would I be able to earn say £400 per day(2 men and a chipper) ?
  7. Here is my quandry. I have a good small tree business running in Essex with some good contracts and much repeat business and little need to advertise. I have a tip site on a farm within 1/2 a mile from my property where I can store up to 100 tonnes of woodchip at a time and logs. But we wish to move closer to the Cornwall/Devon border where property is cheaper and living standards for a family are better. Would it be realistic/feasable to sell the business and start again in the west country or can any of you advise further...... Maybee you have done it before or just have some sound advice. would anyone be interested in a decent business opportunity with existing clients ?(Tree Surgeons, Hertfordshire, London, Essex, UK - Height and Light Tree Surgery Ltd) Patrick
  8. No need to weld a nut on the ends of the bolts, just buy a decent allen key on a 1/2 inch drive socket, with a decent length extension that should do the job. I am in Waltham Abbey if you need a hand. Patrick
  9. I think i have a half available in my shed somwhere, pm me if you are interested,
  10. Thanks for the info, this discussion is interesting, I have always made it my policy to remove a large tree over at least two seasons alowing the soil(not the roots) to adjust to less water uptake which must surely be the case with less photosynthesis taking place, BUT am I right in believing that OCA nearly always reccommend removal in one go wheather or not on clay soil ? I believe this was the case when I worked for a local authority a few years back. So although we tell the public the reasons for staged removal are they really sound ??
  11. Can I throw something else into the melting pot. Are we wrong then in view of the above facts to remove a large tree over two seasons when on shrinkable clay soil to reduce the possiblilty of any adverse movement? Should I now reccommend complete removal in one go?
  12. This happened to me this time last year,I am in West Essex, be on guard..get some of those shot gun cartridge (blank) trip wires. Between now and when the clocks change back they will try it on !
  13. Brilliant .....and it really does work if you balance family and work properly.
  14. That's brilliant, but remembering back a couple of years do the brakes need checking on a rolling road each time? also would I get away with parking a 7.5 tonner on my front drive ?
  15. No not knackered it's still going strong I think I was just taken for a ride as I was very green to the O Licence thing and still trying to get to the bottom of it. at the time my way out of it was to re plate it as a 3.5 tonner but I find I'm taking too many risks with weight now. I guess what I need to know is the economics of running a 7.5 tonne, I can do my own repairs etc.
  16. The only reason for asking is that for my sprinter 5 tonne the bill was never less than £400 every 12 weeks due to having to gert it checked at a specific commercial vehicle garage. Does your man need any secial paperwork or certs?
  17. Pete do you do your own inspections ?
  18. I've just had the same thing with nfu...last year for liability and kit £2100 This year (December Renewal) they wanted £6500 when I asked what happened they said that they have gone over to a different system !!! Back to Trust for my company
  19. Hi all , I am after a small two/three man team to sub out some occasional work to. You must have insurance and certs. The work I have is interesting and varied with some big stuff so please don't pm me if you aren't up to the task( like large leaning poplars on the side of a main road)!! I would prefer someone in the wlwyn /hatfield or Enfield area but would consider the northern home counties. The most important qualities are trust and dependability ie. completing the job on time and to a high standard. If you feel that you can offer these please pm me with your number and I will give you a call. Pat Height and Light(tree surgery) Ltd
  20. Ive got a 412d which i had downrated to a 3.5 tonne which has twin rear wheels-never let me down and pulls really well just dont ask me what it weighs when full in the back !!
  21. Hi Tom,

can you please send details and pics or contact for the unimog,

    thanks

    Pat

  22. Hi rob i've got some which is just about 1 1/2 ft in two planks,is it any good to you ?

    Pat

  23. I just don't trust ebay any more, definitly on the bigger stuff like chippers ,stumpgrinders etc there are too many out there using it for fraud and to sell their "dodgey gear"......
