  1. Happy new year from this part of Yorkshire. May it bring as many job opportunities as last year. I am one of those saddos!!!
  2. So you know Derek Gow then Charlie?
  3. It was BBC news, honestly!
  4. We might be out of a job soon if this critter isn't caught http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7805128.stm
  5. Congrats to you both, I bet you did all the hard work heh, Shrek!! What a christmas pressie. More sleepless nights and dirty nappies, bet you thought that was over for a while.
  6. Back to presents, I just gave my 27month old son his first Stihl chainsaw and he hasn't looked at it yet. I am well disappointed.
  7. Laburnum. Is that not a French barbeque? Ok, I'll get my coat!!!
  8. I need to get some climbing practise in. Would anybody be intersted in some recreational climbing in the Leeds area next year?
  9. Paid £33 for a 5-6ft Norman fir from a local garden center, £5 more than last year for the same size of tree.
  10. How about recycling the cans, I know the price of metal has gone down but you might make something from it perhaps to go towards signs. Is there not any police presence or is it know by the police this goes on? If the they do is it a case of 'yes we know it goes on, but it is not a public nuisance' It really annoys me when I see this sort of thing.
  11. I asked a Stihl Demonstrator if they would release the 192 in the UK and he said no. They are available mainly in 'eastern Europe' and if you brought one into the country you are solely responsible for it and Stihl UK will not look at it. He also mentioned that they are cheaper but not nearly as good as the 200t. (He would though)

    bin it?

Just been reading this thread and it has been interesting. I have a Husky 357xp ground saw which is just doing what the 200 is doing. It is a bugger to start, when I get it going it needs the chock to restart it again and again no matter if it has been running for 5, 10 or 30mins. I have changed the filter in the fuel tank and changed the spark plug.So I am going to check everything else that has been mentioned to see if I can find out what is wrong with it. Cheers guys.
  13. So simple but so effective. Does it have any problems with heavier wood like oak and beech, could you put elm through it?
  14. Have to think positive, count me in as well please
  15. Thanks. I finally found out what moth it was and it was the Pale Tussock Moth. It can be a massive defoliator of anything and my boss said that the Foresty Commision went all out to try and eradicate it on their plantions. It looks quite a boring moth.
  16. Does any one know their catipillers on here. Trying to identify one that I have seen twice now. It is bright green, hairy, black segments and has a red hairy horn at the rear. First spotted when we took a beech down then today when we were working on a evergreen oak. I think it may be a hawk moth because I found a Lime Hawk moth catipillar earlier this year and it also had a horn at the rear. Sorry don't have photos. Won't be on the computer again until Saturday if I get the chance.
  17. For my sins I work for Bartletts and ok, ok I don't get on as much as I would like to. There will be no stopping me when and if I get connected to the internet at home.
  18. I am just wondering if anyone has bought themselves a Husky 356XP as a ground saw. I have one and a collegue has one which he hasn't used much and is less than 6 months old and it is running like a bag of nails. I use one as well much more than he does, I have had mine for over a year and use it nearly every day and it is running rough as well. It is always cutting out on me and it is hard to restart and it was suggested it might be over heating. I have changed the spark plug just last month. My mates saw runs for 10 mins and then cuts out and then takes ages to restart as well. Sometimes you have to feather the throtle just to keep the saw running, this doesn't always help. Could it be fuel starvation? Does anyone have any suggestions and has anybody else had similar problems?
  19. The woodland belonged to someone who recently died and now the family don't know what to do with it. I managed to speak to the nephew of the deceased on Sunday night and we will be meeting at the end of September. I mentioned to him all the ideas that I had for the woodland and the advice that I was getting from you all and he sounded impressed. So will just have to wait until we meet to find out exactly what is happening. I will still contact the FC and get their advice on it. There is also a house on the grounds and the rumour is that it is being sold for development once the market picks up. I will keep you informed of whats going on. Thanks again to everyone.
  20. Thanks so much for all the help and advice. Thats a great idea about contacting the local arg college, I think all just do that. Things will be going slowly because I will need to find out first what wildlife is present throughout the year. I will be removing the sycamores which will probaly go for firewood. Do you think it would be a good idea to get in contact with the local wildlife trust or I am going to open up a can of worms?
  21. I have been asked in a round about sort of way if I would be interested in looking after a woodland, a small one. I would really like to because it would be good on my c.v and it is also a challenge. I have had a walk round it twice and it is full of sycamore mostly, some ash, oak which all seem to be about 35 yrs old, and a few mature beech trees. There is a permissive right of way, a footpath and a small river, (I don't know what you would call it in England, a beck?) The owner of the woodland passed away and the family would be quite happy for someone to come up with some sort of management plan for it. What I want to know is really, how much of an undertaken would it be, financal and time, who could I contact and are there any other threads that I could be shown to. It is going to be a very steep learning curve. I had a thought that I could ask other interest parties if they would want to help out. Thanks Scott
  22. Thought of another one. "I was a forester in my time and I would paint the cuts, do you still do that?
  23. "Can you have a look at two branches that I have permission to be removed" when its half the crown the customer wants taken down!
  24. Or "let me get the wood glue" or "I'll go and get the wood magnet"
