  1. I have spoken to Woodpecker only last night and he is happy to have this thing at his yard. There is plenty parking, its also his woodland and he says if you fall out of a tree its your fault. There is a generator for a kettle at least for tea. Bazbro is trying to organize a piece of machinary to bring along. It will be held next Saturday, the same date I originally said. Also it was really intended for us that don't get to climb much but it would be good to meet up with other climbers. So there you go. Also does nobody work on a Friday?
  2. Unfortunatly I feel as though I have been under pressure by my boss to post-pone this get together until I can find another place to climb. What was meant to be just a couple of guys getting together who don't climb much seem to be turning into a 'tree climbing event'. This is the impression my boss is under. The owner of the grounds who kindly agreed to allow us to climb is 'a very valued client' and my boss has built a good relationship with over the last 15yrs. I am being made responsible for anything that 'might' happen and 'should any bad feelings/conflicts arise from the event which effect the good relationship... these matters could lead to serious consequnces'. I don't want anything like that to happen, I want to safe guard my job and wimp out just now. I do have somewhere else in mind and I will be contacting them in due course so please bear with me for now. Thanks Scottie
  3. I know its not a competion to see who has climbed the hightest tree but my first job was to reduce a 80ft lime by about 4meters or so. Did all by handsaw and I enjoyed every minute of it!! The limes were in the church yard in Dunnington just outside York.
  4. I didn't realise this was going to turn in to a right get together. It was meant for guys who don't do a lot of climbing to get some practise in,but I do appreciate the interest. I will need to speak to the owner of the ground to see if it will be ok to put up gazeebos and the such. He is a really decent guy and I don't think he will have a problem with it but I will need to run it past him. I don't want to impose myself too much and take over his grounds and have a bunch of hairy arsed tree surgeons swinging about the place. Barry from Orange plant next door to the yard mentioned that he might bring along a mewp to play on. Things to take note of: there is not a lot of parking in the grounds but it is safe to park outside, the road is quite. It is electric gates into the property so it would be good if we could all meet up first and go in as 1 group. Most importantly it would be good if damage was kept to the minimum, the owner is a customer and I think my boss might come along so I need to be on my best behaviour. Cheers Scott
  5. I am going away on a ski-ing holiday for 10 days. Will catch up when I get back and will give you all the details that you might need.
  6. Ok I have somewhere for us to climb. It is at Bilton Hall at Bilton in Ainsty not far from Wetherby and it is really easy to get. There is somewhere with a kettle and toilets. The owner, Owen James has kindly allowed us to use his grounds and trees. Was thinking of doing the day on Saturday 28th of Feb. How is that for everyone? There is plenty to climb.
  7. Thanks for the suggestion it sounds good. putting the feelers into Temple Newsam and Lotherton Hall. Will also try Fountains Abbey which has huge, mature sweet chestnuts in the deer park.
  8. Do you want to play Chef Barry? I am going away for 10 days on Saturday so I am looking at nearer the end of Feb, would that be ok for folk?
  9. Chris Have you had a look at the other recreational climb thread? See you in the morning.
  10. Just think about balance and don't take too much off in 1 go. If the crane driver knows his stuff it will be easy. Enjoy!!
  11. I know excatly where Hazel Wood is and I think I will go and ask. I do have another site in mind but it will be harder to find if you don't know the area. Hazel is much easier to get to. Thanks for the tip.
  12. People asking 'you got permission to do that?' I would love to reply "whats it got to do with you, its not even your tree. Now bugger off" Getting asked "why you cutting the tree down, there is nothing wrong with it?" Have you seen the basal rot, the heart rot, the ganaderma, the honey fungus? Take your pick.
  13. What do mean trying to get chip? Have you not been to our tipping yard lately?
  14. Customers coming out with a cup of tea in their hands, asking how you are doing? Its raining, lawson cypress cuttings down your neck, its worked its way into your boxers. Then they walk away not even offering a cuppa.
  15. Was thinking the same about doing recreational/practice climbing around York/Leeds area. I need the practice myself. I know about you Penfold and I am still working on getting us a tree to climb.
  16. Buzz, you don't work for Bartletts yourself do you? I do apologise if I have got it wrong.
  17. Pertho For my sins I work for Bartletts. When I joined I didn't have my cs38 at the time and after a year and a half with them I finaly got it. Hopefully I will be doing cs39 soon. Essentially I am a groundsman/driver for them and I do get to climb. Only problem is, the climber I ground for is pretty good in the tree (crap as a groundsman though). It may be worth giving them a call. Don't quote me on this but I think the Beaconsfield office is looking for staff. You never know until you ask!
  18. A friend of mine is looking for a load of logs. They live in Whitgift near Goole. Any takers??
  19. Don't forget the black teram that was put around the tree because of the stones the customer thought would look nice around it.
  20. With experience you will get to know the charcteristics of each species of tree, which are soft, stingy and down right sods to do. Enjoy!
  21. Look out for that wire the customer has just run along the ground to his shed. Get gaurds to go around the head of the grinder, it saves a lot of cleaning up and it cuts down the chance of breaking windows. What kind of grinder you using? Is it a pedestian one or a proper radio controlled one? As Alinicoll said, look out for utilities and if you are not sure always ask the customer first if they know of any wires or pipes that you might hit. Generally though there shouldn't be anything to worry about. Get a grinder that can do the job, don't get one that is too small for the job, you will just knacker yourself out. Cut the stump as low as possible to the ground and put groves into it with your saw. It all helps. You must be crazy wanting to do stump grinding!!!!!
  22. The term for 'homers' in this part of yorkshire is 'Guvvie jobs'. Being from Cumbernauld myself and now working in yorkshire, when I said I was "doing a homer" to the guys I work with, I got a lot of blank looks. It took me a while to figure out what govvie jobs meant.
  23. Give this guy a phone. His name is Jeremy Truscott and I think he is based in the Chesterfield area. PM me and I'll give you his mobile number. Also you could try [email protected] He is based in South Yorkshire
  24. I have probably been in Taddy so often that I don't know what conifers you are talking about. I think it might be time to look up google earth.
