  3. Hello Is there anyone in the Norfolk area that is able to fabricate my Iveco a tipper body in the next week. I am able to help whilst it is been made up. Ideally asap, a tall order I know! Give me a call 07846936486 Many Thanks Tully
  4. Does anyone know a small firm/person that can do maintenance and repair on timberwolf chippers. I currently use Ben burgess but at £50 per hour (plus Vat, i think) it is too expensive and I would much prefer a more personal service. Cheers
  5. Thanks for the messages. I will get in touch if I havnt already. I will keep all the numbers on my records and give you a call when I can. Thanks again
  6. Im looking to buy in somw cordwood in the Norfolk area. Any guys on here know of some cordwood for sale that isnt miles away from Norwich. Can be soft or hardwood. Cheers
  7. Hey Baggins, Always check, even if the client says they have. You are the trained professional carrying out the work. All it takes is a phone call to the local authority to find out.
  8. Nice one Drew.
  9. Greetings With a growing work load we are looking for some extra help to deal with work that cannot be back dated. We are based near Norwich. If you are a competent self employed climber or groundie and are looking for some extra work from time to time please PM me or get in touch via our website. If things carry on I will be looking for more permanent fixtures. Regards Tully
  10. On the broads we use alder.
  11. Dare all you want. I would rather earn a wage than lose a day. The tree was cut off by obsticles from the access. The job was quoted for us to skim up the tree and fell. With the obsticles it would have been full dismantle with not enough room to stack the material, so a guy would have had to run the chipper whilst I climbed (not ideal for a 2 man team) especially with builders walking in and out. It would have been a horrible day and too many hazards for the small space we were left, the tidy up would have been awkward too. No excuses, Its just not worth the hastle and the price reflected the job (low day rate for an early finish). If i wanted an excuse not to work i would have phoned up my business partner and told him that my arm fell off in my sleep and there was no way i could work. I wouldnt drive to a site to drive back...
  12. Exactly. Our quote sheets do stipulate that the quote is regarding the site when we submit the quote and that any changes to the site may would effect the cost and time. The reason i didnt charge is because I feel it would of tarnished our image. Ive had it a few times that we have other contractors working the same day as us. Maybe that will have to make it onto the terms and conditions.
  13. We had a nice job booked in for today. Spruce dismantle and 3 hawthorns to fell and remove. So after sorting the gear at the yard,de icing truck etc we get to the site and the client has 3 builders vans in, 2 skips and a load of ton bags. Making the job a real ball ache as well as there been 3-4 builders walking past constantly. We decided it would have been twice as long doing the work and very little space as well as the risks of accidents increasing so we called it off. So we walked away and said we will have to rebook the job but he would have to wait until the end of April. A day wasted (apart from some maintenance and office work). What would you do? The job had been booked in for a while and he waited until we arrived so we could see it for ourselves. His words were ' i thought you might have trouble, but i waited for you to see it yourselves to decide'.....NICE ONE. Could have called to let us know prior. I am annoyed a fair bit but have decided not to charge him for our wasted time plus fuel. How would you deal with such a situation? and would you charge? and really how much for 1.5 hours driving and wasted time? ...I hope tomorrow is better.
  14. Break the tree down into climable sections, get everything you can from your positions to save yourself having to re climb to that awkward bit u missed. It comes with experience, visualise the work before you do it, keep in mind how much you are taking off and find suitable growth points closest to that amount.
  15. Agree with Steve...try looking on google images to get insperation but obviously dont use what u find.
  16. What I do is make my invoices at the start of the week, so they are on the spreadsheets and i have hard copies at the end of each day..

    Tree Art Job

Bit of time has passed but heres some pics of what we got up to.
  19. That sounds really good. If you can hold the start till late then might be able to come down.Unfortunately working both Sat and Sun on Norwich and Norfolk festival installs.
  20. This one has a special competition in the beer tent worth coming for this alone.
  21. I think if you are truly considering going freelance climber there are a few things to consider. 1.You must be confident that you are at an ability that someone will want to pay for. 2.That you are ready to be flexible and have to travel to yards/sites etc. 3.That you are ready for a world of difficult, awkward trees that the person you are working for doesn't want to climb. 4.That you are good at keeping records and disciplined to keep books and save %30 of what you take. When I think of this I would definitely not work for less than £120 a day. And you are right that you do not have to deal with clients, advertising etc, if you are freelance but still the guys that I know who have got it right charge £150 plus for a reason.
  22. It must be hard to look like one of Da ali G MASSIVE on that wage. We do the same mate. Running a business does require paying yourself a low wage but I definitely wouldnt work for anyone else. Sure you feel the same.
  23. I remember contract climbing for £90 a day. But when you look at what you take home after -30% it doesn't add up to much. £63 then minus your fuel costs £55. Then add wear and tear £50. 5 days a week if you are lucky £250.And at the end of that week you are knackered from climbing someones shi**y trees. Fair enough we have to be competitive but sometimes I wonder .
  24. We look to pay contract climbers between £120-150. And I know some guys that charge £160-180. Have once got a guy in that charges £180, he came with his kit to the site. He had 5-6 saws, rigging kit etc and was worth every penny. Like Steve says people shouldnt start lowering prices too much because we will all end up having to do it and then we are in a downward spiral. Keep to your prices.
