  1. I've been using the Pantin for a while now, and from day 1 I've had problems with the arch strap extending whilst I'm ascending. Before I take it back to the shop can anyone suggest something I may be overlooking?? I don't want to stitch it to size as I use a couple of pairs of different sized boots. Any help greatly appreciated
  2. was shown this knot by one of the guys at this years swedish tcc, since tried it for a couple of days with 8mm OP on Tachyon and found it to be very good. Need more time on it to say more. Be interested to hear when it first appeared? Performs far differently to how you may expect. Try it!
  3. To be honest with you I'd use the opportunity to hire in an experienced subby who would be prepared to do the job passing on his/her knowledge at the same time. You might find this is more beneficial to you in the long run. I do understand the urge to get on with the job yourself though:001_smile:
  4. Nice post Bundle. Anyone not familiar with the Ancient Yew website will want to check it out! Ancient and Veteran Yew Trees, information and discussion forum about UK Yews They are always looking for information on any interesting Yew trees you may come across on your travels guys.
  5. I can't help apart from recommending you get yourself a copy of The pruning of trees, shrubs and conifers by Brown / Kirkham, or similar, if you want to try and do the best by the tree. You'll find info @ Amazon.com. Not as comprehensive as I'd hoped, but far far better than guessing! Many species wouldn't appreciate being pruned at the moment I reckon. And not to forget removing deadwood
  6. You can try contacting bruce @ complete tree care. He is 1 of 2 guys organising for climbers to head over
  7. Any users of the Edelrid Eddy as a positioner? Is it the cost of the device that puts the Cinch ahead of the eddy for you guys?
  8. A hat, or snod as ed recommended is a must. Have a couple of pairs of gloves you can rotate if its wet, drying 1 pair next to your torso whilst the other pair wets through. The layer next to your skin is the most important part of your clothes layering, you need to wear something that wicks the sweat away from your skin and keeps it away or the moisture sucks the heat out of you, something like Merino or Helly Hensen but not cotton. This applies from top to bottom. If you restrict circulation to your hands and feet then this doesn't help. I'm heading to the cold soon. I've gone for boots (goretex) that are a size too big to fit 2 pairs of socks and a coolmax liner next to my skin. Merino base layers though Mike now has me thinking 2 pairs may be in order Lots of breathable fleeces along with a Gilet (bodywarmer) fleece as this doesn't restrict movement so much. Good breathable waterproofs which also act as a windproof layer when it starts blowing and a balaclava to be safe. I'll also have a down jacket that I can throw on if the job means hanging around in the tree getting cold. Now I'm not suggesting that the above is a perfect set up but I've spent a lot of time in the hills in poor weather and this is what I reckon'll work for me in the cold. As for gloves, well I still can't decide!
  9. Cheers guys. I'll be trying these. I'm also going to have to try the Sealskinz Mark, they look promising I reckon.
  10. Have you climbed in the Sealskinz when it's wet Mozza? Which ones are they?
  11. Think I may need more than luck:001_smile: Not used sailing gloves for years, hadn't crossed my mind. I'll have a look. Have you used any that were very warm?
  12. Nice timing! Any thoughts just yet SWB?
  13. Looking at the sealskinz at the min, does anybody rate these? The Ultra Sticky and the All Weather Cycling look like they might work. Very keen to hear your suggestions. What do you boys in N. Scotland wear?
  14. I've put 4 sets of used rock nuts on ebay with the auction ending tonight. You should be able to see them here eBay Seller: hilldwell: Sporting Goods, Computing items on eBay.co.uk Cheers, Craig
  15. The home guide to woodwork - Google Books There's some interesting info here for anyone else just getting into woodworking. Craig
  16. Thanks Gmann
  17. Can anyone say with any certainty that this is Pholiota squarrosa? Found on a Common lime today, between root buttresses and in several places around the stem in small clumps of about 2-5 in number. Apologies for the poor pictures. Any help appreciated.
  18. Yes, having used both a grinder and an orbital I can see that 1 would work well with the other. Hoped that there may have been a way of avoiding buying both. I'm hand sanding Yew coasters at the minute, what a workout!
  19. Does this sanding sealer reduce the sanding required on your pieces? (he asks hopefully)
  20. What do you guys use to finish your carvings, benches etc with? I've used a random orbital sander on coasters, and briefly, a grinder with sanding pads. Both did the job well but I now need to buy one or the other. Just wondering what the popular choice is for the more experienced of you?
  21. "so as you do i made him think he was geting the best part of the deal" Sorry, the above statement painted a picture of an old boy not really knowing what he was doing. Might have been a hell of a load.
  22. If anybody, like me, hasn't looked at the treemagineers site lately it might be worth looking again. Just had a quick look, seems to have been considerably updated?
