  1. I don't recognise the name so i hope not. Where's he based? Did you relocate from N.Wales a couple of years back?
  2. As a continuation of the above post I am adding a few more details. Primarily I'm looking for work as a free-lance climber and would be pleased to recieve offers from anywhere in the country due to a lack of work locally (I have recently set-up on my own). I've experience of large take-downs and reductions with limited crane work. I have a background in forestry, utility arb including surveying, private/domestic tree surgery ops and also have a high attention to detail (as has the 2nd climber). Services can also be offered as a well equipped 2-3 man team, egg. Hilux/full range of saws/lowering kit/chap 8 etc. Public liability cover. Utility/railway work considered. 1 of the team holds the ND Forestry. I'm awaiting the results of the RFS Cert Arb. (For those that rate it, 2 of us have past ISA TCC experience) Thanks, Craig
  3. I'm looking for occasional days, short-term or long-term offers of work (contracts considered). I also have a friend who may be interested in forming a 2 man team. Distance will not be an issue for the right offer. I have 12 years on the saw, 5 in a harness. My friend 14 and 7 respectively. Reputable contractor/company only please. If you would like to discuss call Craig on 07900 827575/01678 540728 (N.Wales)
  4. I took a sample last night of the fungi pictured from an old oak i recently worked on. The fungi was found at approx 40-50 ft. It was growing in a shallow cavity where a large'ish branch had died back which i removed leaving the callus intact. There was soil-like material present in the cavity. I went back up the tree last night to retrieve a retrievable ART that didn't want to be retrieved on the day of work! Sorry about the quality of the pictures, and the semi decomposed state of the fruit bodies which i forgot all about until now. Any ideas what it is?
  5. Reg, thanks for going to the trouble of explaining that in such detail. I'm sure i'll not be the only person to have learnt something today. Look forward to the next vid. Thanks again, Craig
  6. Hi Reg, excellent video. Would you mind explaining the method used for the limb/crane connection at 5.30? The equalization of the sling(s) etc? Cheers, Craig
  7. Hi all Having just read through this thread with interest i have to say that it shows how useful Arbtalk can be as a resource tool. Being new to the contracting world i have a million and 1 questions in my head on a daily basis and it often happens that i find answers on this site. Just felt the need to thank all those that share their knowledge on this site so often, its really good to see! Anyway, keep up the good work guys. Craig
  8. Thanks for the warning christreeroot.
  9. Hi ben. I dismantled a few trees 2 years ago that were suspected of having bats present. Did'nt take it that seriously to begin with, the 'expert?' claimed that i should use a small twig to poke in to the cavities to check for any present:confused1: Not having any knowledge in the subject thats what i did, nearly fell out of the tree when my 3rd poke was greeted with a high pitched squeek! The cavity was then VERY carefully sectioned/lowered and left standing on the ground against a stem. All this was as per the instructions of the bat expert i believe (i was subing to another contractor). Hope this is of some help, Craig
  10. After all the fuss i opted for trust again. £550 - public liability. Thanks to you all again for your input.
  11. Thanks to you all for your input. I will be sure to let you know how i get on next week. Craig
  12. I am hoping there may be a few of you out there who have insurance!:001_smile:I would be pleased to get a few pointers as to who has a good rep. within the industry, any companies that may be more hassle than they are worth etc, etc. Last policy (and first) was taken through Trust who have given me no reason to walk away but i am going to shop around before commiting to them again this year. As you are probably all aware taking the word of a telephone salesperson can often end in disaster, and if i can save myself an afternoon trawling through policies i will. All advice/comments warmly welcomed. Thanks
  13. PM me your contact details. I am about 45 mins away from you. Might be worth dropping your details to Michael Edwards who operates from the outskirts of Bangor, i have climbed for him and would'nt hesitate to again (for what its worth)
