  1. Agreed:thumbup1: Here in Brittany, oaks are pollarded for fire wood on a cycle that is around 20years. I have had a succession of U.K climbers working for us who although very good at their jobs just cannot get their heads around the idea of pollarding quoting the issues with decay pockets, bad practices and other options available anything but pollarding as though this should never be done to a tree. These are just trees after all, a resource to be exploited in this tradition of oak pollards and besides not every tree needs to be pretty and conform to the ideals of BS3998 in order to have it's place in the grand scheme of things. Decay pockets and deep scarring left by decades of pollarding just add to the diversity of habitat within the tree. The trunks of these oak pollards are next to useless for anything but firewood when their time comes and horrible knotty stuff it is too, I hate splitting it. Ty
  2. Centre page pullout of Lumbersexual magazine December edition I'll have you know... hhh! Ty
  3. I used to use a high end bicycle U lock through a wheel and around the suspension arm. I may go and measure up and see if this is also viable on our GM190. A couple of those would certainly slow down a theft. Ty
  4. Ah, when we thin, we often prioritise the branches which extend the furthest. Serves a dual purpose. Ty
  5. Is this used my any-one on here? https://www.ultrasecuritycentre.co.uk/bulldog-230-f-titan-wheel-clamp I need to beef up on site lunch time security as well as night time at the yard. I am trying to think like a thief whether caravan based or working for a large Eastern European Export only consortium. One thing that I think is vulnerable is the arms around the tyre. They look thin and easy to cut with a battery angle grinder. Cheers Ty
  6. That day rate I paid you seemed good until you realised the days where 12hours long... Ty:biggrin:
  7. Could they not enforce wholesale removal so to avoid a scabby hedge (not slighting your work there mind) Ty
  8. We work on many pollards. I find the Brits who come to work for us don't generally understand or sympathise with the culture of pollarding here and try to deviate from the tradition by leaving shoots or removing the knuckle as it has decay pockets. I love them, real class, a traditional French Winter scene of 'Rue du Vichy' or 'Place de la Collaboration' lined with lime or plane pollards. Ty
  9. Soaking up the rays... Ty
  10. Strewth that IS tough but many of my clients are equally as poor being only able to afford an Apple... Ty
  11. Green is the company colour so I settled for GreenMech green... Pink gives a great effect and renders the machine both undesirable and hard to shift not just by thieves but the owners too when the time comes to move it on. Ty
  12. I thought I detected your trademark signature there Tim... Ty:001_tt2:
  13. Le Monsieur wanted his cherries lower down so he could get to them before the birds. I suggested leaving this tree to the birds and replanting another, smaller grafted variety elsewhere. Looks like he'll be buying his cherries in the future... Ty

  15. Sorry, Are you saying 15 each or 7.50 each...? Either way CAN I EMPLOY YOU BOTH? Ty
  16. According to my wife, I am not the best behind a pram, I confuse it with a spaceship... Ty
  17. On larger trees with long skinny branches, we separate off the wood from the green ends and chip that for later re-sale as 'plaquettes' at 30euros per M3 Ty
  18. Yup, One 3.5t tipper and one tipping trailer both 'slightly' over weight. I tip my conifer at a local farm for bedding if no-one takes up the Free Ads I punt out. Wood fairies can have the logs... Ty
  19. 1500euros/£1071 at todays exchange rate so Hodge is on the ball there. I'd put 4 men on it so the chipper is running full time, tipper and tipping trailer to evacuate the chips which I would have pre-sold/given away via the free ads along with the wood. Ty
  20. Hello, I've recently put my pre-1997 licence in to be exchanged for a French version. It will be 2 months before I recieve my new licence. I 'had' the 7.5t+trailer gross train weight 12t However, I now read that the U.K licence has been downgraded to 7.5t plus 750kg trailer GTW of 850kg Not good news seeing as I have a 7.5t arriving in a few weeks plus a 1250kg chipper on order PLUS I tow a 3.5t trailer too so 11t GTW. When did this change in the licence occur? I last renewed my U.K licence in 2010. So do I now require a test for a larger trailer OR my HGV tickets...? That's 1200euros here plus a week out of work. Ty
  21. YURK! See the size of the infeed on that chipper! (tried to blot out the red stained woodchips...) Ty
  22. Cheers, I'll pass that onto Davy who was climbing. I'm just a class 2 rake operative in my own company these days. Totally out gunned by those I employ, my role being to drive the trucks, quote, sweep up and post on Faceboast:biggrin: Ty
  23. The removal of a 37m conifer growing at the bottom of a steep ravine. Ty Video here: [ame] [/ame]
