  1. Holy crap??
  2. Yeah, they really work. I think they look a dogs arse without leaf tho'. Good work.
  3. I never had that particular problem ....?
  4. I thought it might be of interest as there is a thread re: QTRA at the mo and I understand quite a number of bodies/ organisations ( arbor )were cited as represented ....I believe they have a none too easy assignment in reaching a definitive statement that can be applied to industry practice?
  5. http://www.treesource.co.uk/acatalog/
  6. http://www.forestpathology.org/ http://www.aie.org.uk/ http://www.britmycolsoc.org.uk/ Theres always wikipedia...
  7. So thats it then...no-one went or maybe wants to admit to attending..It wasnt free I hasten to add....I wonder what gem of wisdom will emerge from this....Who pays to contribute to an edited version of industry generalisation? Not that I'm irredeemably cynnical or owt!!
  8. Its such a subjective thing really...one mans meat is another mans poison! I really dont like the Petzl navaho. It is manufactured in a range of sizes which must tell you something about how adjustable it is. I couldnt even stand up straight in the thing...there are so many ( IMO better ) alternatives that what they say 'bout try B4 you buy is spot hot man....Cheap is not a good reason and I know!!
  9. Pretty much gonna go with you guys on this...line strimmers are clearly not the same thing as a clearing/cutting saws... It makes sense that you should adhere to policy set out by your employer and that probably means with the assessment made by the safety officer... Only asking cos I think my safety officer is a bit of a by the book geezer and wont think for hiself...not very inspiring eh!!? lol
  10. Would it not need to be applied over a greater value than....not much lets say? What do I mean by this? The maths involved must be a more accurate number when applied to more rather than fewer trees yeah! If for instance you had a distance ( roadside maybe ) or given area ( conservation woodland open to public access) Less meaningful along a stretch of railway line for example with traffic density/ regularity etc already a known value ( in theory ). The less you tell an equation, the easier it will be solve ( idealistic I know any maths bods out there) but by the same token, the less it really serves any purpose beyond the neatness of the maths itself?!!
  11. Website will look great I'm sure....enjoyed the show!!
  12. Would be happy to read ahead of time what workshops decided on for each if poss!!
  13. An industry statement.... The Royal Geographical Society, Hyde Park, this thurs ( 29 may ) Apparently in aid of informing industry standard re: safety management . Anybody going..?
  14. Wicked!!
  15. For sure you gotta reckon it does not make the wood weaker...and so more likely to fail. I guess reg inspections at least informs as to reaction wood around bracing sites etc. There is a reason we use non-invasive bracing afterall...but this system would really need inspecting in the same way IMO...?
  16. Trouble with invasive bracing is the damage, obviously. No amount of inspections are really gonna do more than tell you that failure looks iminent...the damage is already done. I think I might have turned the work down Steve...easy to say from where Im sittin' !!?
  17. Perhaps she means saddu which is an abbreviation for sadhu baba the holy man in India!!!
  18. I have tho witnessed failure that has not resulted in catastrophic damage and all thanx to the bracing system holding together otherwise fractured and fallen trees/limbs... Or is it all about preservation for you??
  19. I think I must be thick mate...I'm losing money everyday I get out of bed Only last month the goddam bank was breathing down my neck about investing in this and that...do I want to buy a house blah blah blah....scary. Thats capitalism 4 U This guy on the box, he's undermining the value of assets in the uk to make money at the expense of the rest of us...its called " shorting " perpetuum motum
  20. Pete is absolutely right here on this...you may if you are a competent inspector, inspect your own gear. You must make it clear to your employer that you will act as an inspector on behalf of the company which means you will be utterly impartial. If you cannot do this then do not inspect his kit. As for the self employed. I imagine you would have to be some sort of retard to pass your own kit when you know its not safe. I like the idea of every other check being external even when qualified as competent yourself.... The current loler regs are 1998. http://www.hse.gov.uk/lau/lacs/90-4.htm
  21. Good point Lee, regional variations can be minute and subtle. Interesting website tho'!!
  22. I gave up fighting the fight with friction cord...as Marc says, it gets replaced all too soon to keep chasing it down. As far as PPE and rigging eqpt goes, yeah, it should all be marked so as to be passed as the item identified.
  23. If you sub atall, or work for a large company..marking is not only about loler recognition but for your own peace of mind when gear gets muddled as you race down the pub on friday night, taking mateys karabiners with ya'!! Personally, I mark my ropes and include a date (first used) but this should be supplied at the point of purchase. She'll be right mate!
  24. UMmmmm..wasnt the disaster a force of nature...?
  25. Interesting...they wont listen mate...except when you wrong and they need to blame something....I am being very cynnical people..... There must be some merit in the system...If I have understood the underlying premis of the maths correctly, I have no experience of it myself, then why not. Its perfect.
