  2. you could try Paul abbotts at sas ( specialist arboricultural services) he made a trailer for our tracked 150 @ the council. Well made, with a split folding ramp nice and easy to get our chipper on and off... Can get some pics if u want a look mate.....
  3. octopussey are ok, a good outreach is important, the smaller the machine the less the outreach, ive only used 14m octopussey, i think thats got about a 6-7m outreach(correct me if im wrong) it just depends on the job in question really.
  4. the leo 23 gt....
  5. Matt, Try looking at teupen, they do a range of machines, ive mainly used the leo 23, which had good outreach with a working height of 23m. Ive used these on our nature reserves and parks and open spaces, with little damage. quite costly though i think, around £250-£350 a day....
  6. PTS is personal track safety, or use to be when i did mine back in 2003. Think it still is mind. Whats the crack with the jobs then gav...?
  7. Like yourself I have been a regular visitor to center parcs for the last 10 years and only last year have I seen contractors working on site. Before I got pulled away by the kids on there bikes I had a quick gander, Valtra tractor with roof mounted crane with rather large pto chipper, a couple of guys with saws and it seemed that centre parcs were removing the chip around site with tractors and trailers. Didn't catch the contractors name though, this was up at sherwood forest cp...

  12. apologies if this has already been covered, is anybody using, or has had thoughts of using a caravan mover to get there chipper from towing vehicle to where the chipper is stored...? ive got a slight access issue and would consider one if it would make it easier to get the chipper in and out.

  14. Just been shown this by a work colleague.., guy lost his arm whilst using a woodchipper... Glad he's ok.

Would he me the kind of guy your seeking mate...?

  20. worked for johnny briggs aka mike baldwin out of corry in stourbridge, took his poplars down as his neighbour was complaining about em... said would we mind a trip to florida to work on his trees at his private villa, must have done a good job for him then....! but saying that the trip never happened
  21. i spent a year working on the railways in 2003 with fountains and to be honest like most work it had its good and bad points. you will have to get a PTS qualification first to work on the railway but your employer will provide that training and sponsership. the work i was mainly envolved in was a 5 metre flail strip maintenance (mainly spraying during the summer months) and vegitation management, e.g blackthorn, hazel, woody weeds. this also included possession works during the night of which included lots of felling and climbing. it got me where i am today, im a local authority climber/arborist so grab what you can get in terms of training/experience. ive done the power line clearence also, but thats for another time....
  22. Whilst doing another job today i came across this oak on a fence line between 2 properties. at first glance i thought what a nice specimen and such a good tree in the situation. On further inspection one of our lads noticed a "slight" defect with it.... beeing local authority employees we notified the householder who replied, "its been like that since we moved in" im guessing that would have been over a year or so. it would certainly be interesting to clear up if it failed.
