  1. I don't think that is a martin actually but its hard to see. This is one.
  2. Where i used to live in Yorkshire there was a line of Horse chestnuts like that, they had more carnea than the one you saw monkey. I suspect originaly they were 50/50 but the hippocastaneum was more vigorous. If I remember rightly they were near Cherry Burton, perhaps if one of our east yorkshire members is passing that way they could take a pic.
  3. Sounds interesting, do you have a list of exhibitors?
  4. The 5 quid is ok if everyone else wants to do it that way, I'll buy the food if so. Bring whatever you need plus if there's something you want to try / buy ask Gustharts to bring it. I'll ask about the off roading, and i've no idea where your tom tom will take you, but probably the same way as i've posted.
  5. A wallaby. I saw one once, it ran across the road in front of me. I was near Whipsnade Zoo and can only assume it was an escapee.
  6. I did a job the other day where a neighbour asked if I'd look at a branch on his tree which was hung up. At the end of the day we went down there and had a look. I told him I would'nt have time to climb it there and then but I'd have a go snagging it with a throwline to save him a few quid but no promises that it'd come down. After a couple of goes I got it snagged and tried pulling it from various directions untill eventyally it came free. The whole job had taken less than half an hour and if it had been a little old lady I'd have done it for free, but seing as this guy was living in a house that was worth at least £2,000,000 when he asked how much i wanted I said "what are you going to give me?" in a friendly sort of way thinking a 20 quid between the lads would be ok. "How about a fiver" he said!! Thats how you get a £2m house in the first place.
  7. I think thats true in most cases but with things like SOD and DED or silverleaf you need to be extra carefull.
  8. Anybodys guess. I have seven phone numbers from folk who I know are coming, and there are a further 15 or so who have said they'd like to but not confirmed yet. My guess is there'll be around 15, but if people bring friends then maybe more.
  9. Sorry, Inbox empty again.
  10. Good effort, everyone should have a head cam.
  11. Might be a laugh to set one up at the get together Jamie.
  12. Thanks for the numbers so far. I'm just posting this to keep it up near the top for everyone to see. Cheers.
  13. Nice job, was the bole being used for something special?
  14. Sounds good, but shouldn't it be called the National Union of Tree Surgeons. I think it'd be great to say to clients " its ok, we're NUTS.":001_smile:
  15. Awesome. Good to see some local landmarks too.

    Leaning elm

It was handballed, but not far, Andrew climbed and I had all the brash chipped by the time he was down. And yes it would have been a whole lot easier without that lamppost. The funny thing is if you look in the before pic one of the lanterns is squint, I saw it and thought they might think we did it, so fixed it at the end.
  17. With 2 weeks to go, could everyone who is coming pm me their phone numbers so I can call if there are any last minute changes. I'm not sure how often everyone logs on so I'll post this now.

    Leaning elm

I reckon It had been like that for at least 15 years, caused I think by trenching through the roots by the neighbours when the block paving went in. The ground was still showing signs of heaving but I think this was reactive growth to counteract the lean. The Job went very smoothly and it never showed any signs of movement, heavy timber though.
  19. A few pics from today, a leaning elm by a hotel in Edinburgh.
  20. Easy in principle, v difficult in practise. The splice inivolves turning part of the rope inside out and then threading this back down inside itself then burying that part. The threading through of the inside out part and burying it is hard work.
  21. The core is part of the strength,so removing it is not ok, go to the new england site for instructions how to do it, I did mine, its really hard, not technically but physically.
  22. BTW if you fancy freelancing the cost of PI insurance has come right down in the last year. You should get 500k for around £200.
