  1. What part of the country are you in? I have a mate with a 300+ hp tractor mounted mulcher who covers most of northern england and that thing makes short work of anything. PM me if you want his number and he should be able to give you an idea of price
  2. Sounds like they're as bad round you Dean as they are around us. There's a few manky old Sycamores in a Field next to the primary school in one of the local villages, all within easy reach of a row of powerlines , the school building and also the main road. They first approached the electric board early this year (can't remember when but it was frosty still) and apparently are still no further on with it despite the fact that one of the trees has already blown over since then and only narrowly missed taking the wires with them. There's already been talk of just giving them a yuck with the boughton but I dug my heels in and said I wasn't having anything to do with it.
  3. Seeing as I've just handed in my notice today, the Estate I work on near Malton, is now looking for a replacement. Fairly varied work, bit of felling/extraction, some planting, general estate work, logging, tree maintenance, tractor work etc Even if you didn't fancy full time, they're open to anything if you can help out either on the books or self employed. PM me for a contact number, Chris
  4. yep, and I'll try not be late this time.......
  5. I'll come if I can, should know soon enough:001_cool:
  6. Same here, even though I don't get out as much as I used to, if we don't eat it then usually it keeps the ferrets going for a week or so. My boss is the sort of person who'd burn good firewood in a field - just so I couldn't have it.
  7. That's a smart looking Dog box. I was in sixth form with the son of the guy who owns CAB - that feels like a long time ago though now:scared1:
  8. and the final value fee:scared1:
  9. I did a first aid course with ABC First Aid (or something like that) a few years ago, they advertise in most of the Forestry mags. They were quite good as they dealt with the sort of injuries we'd expect within Forestry/Arb. On teh subject of First aid kits, my boss thinks the little green boxes you can buy in Boots constitutes a suitable kit to deal with chainsaw injuries - I carry my own ambulance dressing - I'd hate to think I was relying on him sticking lots of plasters over a saw cut, especially after he'd made his way back to the landrover and got the kit. When I was working for myself in the woods (and usually on my own) I used to carry one of those personal belt kits that have an ambulance dressing and a few other little bits and then have the main kit in the truck - best of both worlds IMO as you tended not to notice the kit was on your belt.
  10. Looks quite similar to one of those santana things
  11. I might be interested in the roof, sides and tub if they're coming up for sale and might even have a truck cab roof and back for sale as I'm looking at taking my old 110 hi cap into a van.
  12. Was hoping to make it this year but it's looking doubtful. Was all set for three days of it last year until it got cancelled and even managed to miss it the year before. Had done 4 years in a row before that though. Is definately a good day out even if you're not that much of a shooting/fishing man
  13. Yep I'd be miffed too. It's surprising where people will pinch wood from, I've had wood go from places I would never have expected.
  14. Thanks guys, it was weight I'd meant - had to translate a volume to an estimate of weight and it's been a while - all done now though Shows how old my book was cos it was definately blue. will get round to ordering a new one eventually
  15. Hi guys, does anyone have a copy of their blue book to hand? I've lost mine and need to do some calculations. Could do with a ballpark figure for a metre cube of softwood - doesn't need to be specific to species - just roughly will do
  16. It used to belong to a mate of mine but he ended up selling it on as he didn't use it enough. It's a shame Lee at lakes lumber wouldn't hire his demo one out. The JMS ones are a really nice trailer but the Rexon (or however it's spelt) ones that Caledonian sell are available with driven wheels - got to be a good thing
  17. I priced up an alstor when I was shopping around for an alpine tractor - £20,000 ish for that money I'd have wanted a cab and a diesel engine at least. They are a good little thing on the right site though. Yep, unfortunately the cost of the smaller kit does seem to put a dampener on it
  18. County with roof mounted crane was even better value and one of the few things I've ever owned that went up in value
  19. Yep, I really liked it too but was very expensive.
  20. Other thing with sticking a crane on an ifor type trailer is with the crane and additional strengthening it eats well into the carrying weight. Also if front mounted it chucks the nose weight well over. He does build one that you can transport the tractor on and then when you get there put the trailer behind the tractor - got round uneven loading by making the whole axle assembly moveable backwards and forwards on hdraulics.
  21. This is what I used to run before I bought the County. The tractor was a second hand 50hp carraro that came from Steve Cabrol at RICO, and the trailer was a jms900 that I hired in as and when. Was a great little outfit on the right jobs, main problem I had was lack of ground clearance.
  22. Yep it's brash that you need but it needs to be nice straightish branches between 4 and 7 ft long - ideal stuff is young whole trees or sidebranches from up to about 4-5inch dbh. Stuff off bigger trees is usually fairly crap.
  23. Funnily enough my old boss is about the biggest supplier in the country - head to www.richmarkservices.co.uk for their number - ask for either Mark or Sarah and tell them I put you in touch with them it's not cheap and it doesn't go far either
  24. Mine's one of those Brockock air cartridge ones (on FAC - but still only 12ft/lb ) with a 4 shot mag, quite old but shoots nicely. Haven't used it for ages - bust my pump and never got round to getting another one.
