  8. Id say most of ours youll find around your area. Its the other way round; We dont get all of yours!
  9. Sorry youre absolutely right! Here we go; The tree is old, some say 3-400 years old, according to local history some Swedish king planted the tree when he was passing (yeah right!) but I´d say 200 years and a bit more. It is a landmark set at an old junction that has been tarmacked and houses built around it (some 40 years ago. Probably 60 % of roots is covered by tarmac and roots were probably damaged at that time, rest of rootplate expands into a private garden with mostly grass. Due to structural and mecanical problems (leaning, trunk cracks, heavy weight on one limb with weak attatchment and so on) a hard reduction was decided (cobra or wires werent an option) and carried out, remowing 40-60 % of foliage due to weight reduction. Regrowt isnt vigourus, but shes haning in there... The fungi appears from an open wound on the trunk, where the hardwoods been exposed for many years. The wood is still solid with no signs of decay. The wood is black and shows normal "cubic cracks" as exposed oakwood does. No other visible funghi as I spotted, at least none in the tree. Grass is beeing mowed regularly (might have cut funghus too) nothing on otherside of road. These were set about 60 cm frpm base and expanding 30 cm up the trunk. Havent drilled the tree as I dont have equipment, just the "ol´hammer" -no hollow sound, no cavities. Hope this is good for starters! Any help is welcome! Thanks again and NO this is not a competition...just me needing some help:001_smile:
  10. No...but a couple of guys was traveling from north of Sweden to the south last summer on a woodconverted bus! Lowbudget of course, asking along the way for free wood:001_smile:I belive they did it as an environmental statement.
  11. Hmmm not convinced.... Thanks for your help.
  12. Hi guys! (and gals) Can u help me ID this one and tell me a bit more about it.... Be quicker than flicking my useless books... need better ones! Thanks!
  13. Yup! Done that, even as a 2 man operation. One man stays in basket and carry on doing whats possible from the basket, eg reduction, crownlift or clearing stems from epicormics. Either in same tree (different side of tree offcourse!) or in next/previous if in a row. Now THATS cost effective!

    new tree

Yes box! Cercidiphyllum japonica -Katsura tree. Smell of candyfloss in autumn... or gingerbread....or at least sweet, the wilting leaves give off a scent. Lovely tree that! But they are of a fair size when they are fully grown (slowgrowers). I climbed one two years ago...Big tree! Planted one as a shrub 3 years ago, it is now about 6 ft high. Im pruning it so it will become a single stem tree eventually......
  15. Correct me if im wrong...but this I belive is a thing a Swedish guy came up with. At least there is one, does look slightly different tough. I´ve used one, and just as MB says the overhead bar did get in my way on higher hedges. Except for that (might be down to tec. and practise) it was brilliant esp on lower hedges 6 ft or so.
  16. Same goes for me...happened more than once that customer been impreesed with quality in the end, clearing up etc., and me walking back to the car with a HUGE tip in my pocket. Your cockup isnt your customers fault! On other occasions customer stopped me from tidying up after them realising that I underpriced the job, so to stop me from making such a bad mistake and end up with no profit. These customers quite often becomes clients...regular customers that is.
  17. Ill see if I can dig out some pics from a BIG one that I di couple years ago.
  18. Ive spent year and a half there... Sure we got some rain but usually just half a day at a time. Usually cleared up in the afternoon or just started after lunch. But mind u on westcoast it was lot more rain so it really depends were on the island you are. I was working as a gardener at that time, only wore waterproofs for about a fourthnight all in all... and NO i didnt sit in the porta-cabin having endless rounds of tea! Go for the craic and Im sure youll have the time of your life! Iknow I did!!!
  19. Who were u working for and with whom? and when?
  20. Dalarna...25 km north of Stockholm.
  21. Thanks Skyhuck!
  22. Bank has started eroding, customer was afraid it would fall on the house, and as usual...light! The customer wanted to plant shrubs and a few more trees to stop erosion. Yes it was a fine specimen esp. with the entangeled crown. Didnt think it was necessary to keep since they had another two bigger pines further away (cant be seen in pictures.) to the left of this tree situated as entrance trees with no target...
  23. Last ones.... My first pics of a dismantle... hard to take photos while i´m working...lol
  24. More pics of the tree...
  25. Tree set on a high spot overlooking river on one side of the bank and house on the other with a nice fence underneath... lovely day for it...
