  1. Yeh, thats what stopped them, but only just, the bit that has the hole in it that the lock goes thru only just held, if they'd had had one more go at it, it would have rip the weld off completely. Luckily the yard was muddy so they couldn't get the grip to pull.

    I'm with you there mate
  3. When I was look at Mogs I looked at the longer ones, I reckoned the backs on the short wheel base models were no bigger than my landrover back, no point having all that gross weight if you can't fit the weight on it. Why are they crap, what's a better one. excuse me but I'm Mog ignorant
  4. That's where I'm going wrong, you can see the picture I had in my head !!

Not so much rubbishing them Matt, just struggling to comply with them all. It can be a pain sometimes
  6. Nice one Dave, it's just whether someone will pay the extra ontop of the logs for the bag. You could always reuse the bags and that way if you used it twice it would cost half as much. Just tell the customer the bags have to be returned. Might order some off them. Cheers
  7. Don't take this the wrong way Steve, I've watched your climbing and your a top climber no doubt. I can't get the picture on this one. Correct me where I'm going wrong. For example, you fix your anchor 50ft on the main stem, you then climb and put a redirect in 25ft above that. In effect by putting that redirect in you are doubling the load on the redirect anchor point. If you then come back down 25ft and the anchor fails you have 50ft of free fall line, you will hit the deck before the slack is taken up. Would it not be better to put the main anchor up at the redirect site and half the load. It would still be in a compression state and just make sure you always have a second line if unsure. Going back to basics, a climbing line from you round a pulley back to you only exerts half your weight on each side of the rope, 14st on the anchor point, your two lines from your main stem anchor point over the redirect on a thin branch back to you exerts 14st on one side and 14st on the other, in effect you are putting 28st onto the redirect branch. I'm just struggling to get my head round how this is better unless you are really careful and always have a second anchor point
  8. What sort of money do you reckon these will fetch. Would it be worth buying to take the back off and fit a tipper body http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160210655698&refid=store

Fill in vibration time sheets WTF is the world coming to. Soon, all we'll be able to do is sit in a corner sucking our thumbs, after of course you have signed the "have you washed your thumb sheet"
  10. 357xpg is the only husky I have, I use that for logging up so it gets some stick, not missed a beat!
  11. I think there comes a time when enough is enough, I honestly cannot see the reasoning behind the license in our case, yes for chemicals and hazardous waste, but for christ sake, logs!! What will be next. I think I'm with Skyhuck on this one (for a change) i'll go to court first and let them prove it is waste. I'll get legal cover on my insurance. I can feel a test case coming up.
  12. If I was unsure, I'd rather test it that way steve, than not at all. I personally don't take chances, can't afford to. If there is a doubt I pull the other end of my rope and use two anchors, slows you up a little but at least you finish the job.
  13. Some truth there but I'm sick of doing everything by the book and to the letter and not getting anywhere because the "enforcement" of all the rules, regulations and legallities are only enforced on those that are doing things right. We have to price jobs to cover all these factors, and then along comes Gypo joe who'll do it for next to nowt and tip where the f@ck he pleases, normally a layby or the entrance to my yard. They get away with it time after time after time.
  14. Received this reply from my local forestry officer. Dear Dean, funding is available for control of Rhododendron under Woodland Management Grant or Woodland Improvement Grant where the woodland is eligible for this work and the clearance works towards enhancing the woodland. If its the piece of woodland I met you in to look at felling for a log storage area some time ago, forming part of/ adjacent to Bradley wood then it should be eligible for grant funding to enhance biodiversity as ancient woodland is a UK Biodiversity Action Plan target. Rhodo clearance would have to form part of a suite of work to enhance the woodland - this may be for example replanting/underplanting with native species following rhodo clearance.... If its a different location I'd need to check to see if it is eligible. Our grant schemes are currently closed but are expected to re-open in April. Rates are dependant on size of rhodo material: where the majority is under 7cm FC will contribute 50% of £300 (i.e. £150/ha) the rate is higher for larger material (50% of £2000/ha) and a contribution to follow-up spraying may also be available. If you wish to meet on site to look at the potential for grant aid I'd be happy to do so Will arrange to meet and see what he says
  15. I think you just abuse your tackle you lot
  16. Redirect is where you already have your anchor point, but say you want to do a long branch walk, you attach a sling with a carabina on another branch above your limb walk branch and pass your climbiing line thru the carabina, limiting your swing should you slip. Best I can describe it without a drawing
  17. That's ok MB, until you go on holiday for three weeks, forgetting about the dog and come back to a skeleton hanging onto a rotting pikey corpse
  18. I like the pikey van in the background 18 stoner
  19. Best thing to do if you are unsure is what they show you at the Arb shows, put in your anchor and test it from the ground by suspending two people on it. If it holds two people, it will hold one person bouncing about in the crown.
  20. The only problem I have ever had with Stihl is dropping the 200t 40ft out of the tree, thinking I had clipped it to my loop, threw it out, catching the lanyard, gasping when the carabina ran thru my hand. The saw was 1 day old. The only other thing has been the earth wire breaks on the 200t so it won't switch off. That is genuinely the only faults I have had wth stihl and I have 2x MS170 1x MS200T 1x MS200 1x MS341 1x MS441 2x MS660
  21. I'm going to put a shagged out stove in the barn and tell them I burn everything. I use the chip as fuel to dry my logs which are then, when dry used as fuel to keep me warm while I am processing my logs to dry to use as fuel for drying my fuel They should then get the message, if they don't, I'll just say sorry, me no speeky english!
