  1. Take it your not interested in mine then Matty? Had two blackened finger nails to press and quite a few close calls. Thats why I wont let anyone else use it, I could get someone in at £30 a day just doing splitting, but I have visions of coming back to find them spinning around the threaded cone. I think a normal splitter would give me better peace of mind. Plus more productivity
  2. Aren't neighbours d1cks? I hate neighbours, IMO they should have all been put down at birth. I'd be inclined to tell him if he doesn't allow access into the tree the your client is quite within his rights to sue him for future damage to his property, caused by his tree. got a similar problem to sort out on friday.
  3. Have downloaded and saved it for future perusal. Cheers Log-ologist
  4. Bloody hell Ed, you left 40 quids worth of timber on the root ball, couldn't you have cut it a little lower.
  5. The earth moved for our lass at about the same time, my fault sorry chaps. Epicentre was Brighouse
  6. Just what I was thinking. Was cringing looking at it.
  7. My mate Mick went to the doctors when he was confused with his sexuality. The doctor told him, " No, You are Annie Mick " Been on iron tablets ever since
  8. I've got the Hydrocut Screw type and find it's not quick enough for bulk log production. You also have to be on your guard, it can, if you get lapsy daisy, spin the log and wack your fingers. Far too much log handling for my liking, anyone want a nearly new one £700, paid over a grand for it.
  9. You need to ease yourself out of their employ all together bob. Or at least do more for yourself and only part time there. That's just abusing your skills is that rate.
  10. No bob, I can vouch for him, I saw him work at least one day last week in Meltham
  11. If you work less than three, you end up with a big belly
  12. Thats the beauty of getting on with the local tree surgeons, we all know each other in Hudderfield and we can call on each other to help out. If I get a roadside takedown or a big lowering job, I ring another tree surgeon who comes and does a day for me, he normally calls on me to help him out or I service and repair their chippers in payment, if not we just have a reasonable day rate we charge each other. We even have a Huddersfield Tree Surgeons Xmas do! PeteMcTree thought he had better mates to go out with this year
  13. Thanks for the warning b101uk. But I already know all this I dont worry at all about things going missing or what people know. The only thing that bothers me is the damage they cause looking. You are spot on with everything. The yard has nothing worth nicking in it, otherwise I wouldn't go into such detail. The electrical energiser is only for my bit of fun and the camera would be so I can catch them in the act with the shotgun, so I can play games with them. The left container has a tractor in it The right container has a porta loo, various bearings, a kelly kettle and a set of road tyres for my landy. It even shows the 100ft Poplar stem laid over in the yard which I described earlier in a thread, I'm not stupid enough to leave stuff in such a remote location. The stuff on the drive of the house is also secure, drive posts, wheel clamps, PTZ camera, IR bells and alarms. We get Gypos coming past all the time so I'm well prepared for them, they already know what I have and where I live, it's all visible from the road. No need to delete your post, it will give others a little reminder of how easy info is to come across. I have been robbed too many times to be so laxed. Nice work though!!
  14. One Groundsman and that's it. Don't believe in trying to get bigger, more staff, more machinery, more overheads. I aim to do 3 days a week although in summer I have a grass contract which is 20 days a year at £6k which puts it up to 4 days most of the time in summer I use the other day of the week for servicing and repairs, all my machinery is in tip top condition and well looked after as a result. This year I was just under the threshold
  15. Just checked it matty, to see if the battery has run down yet. It still hurts when you touch it, but how else do you test it apart from holding the dogs nose against it?
  16. It's always frightened me to death, I have always guenuinely kept my turnover below VAT threshold. That's why I will only do three days a week, I can do more if I'm looking as though I'm well under. I honestly put everything thru the books, it's easier doing your books if you don't fiddle. Although sometimes I wish I had. I gave my accountant a stuffing this time, I'd rather see my tax go to buying equipment than to the tax man
  17. Hi Aluk Bushnell Trail Scout 5MP, just arrived this morning, b@stard tax have stung me for £50 despite being put as gift.
  18. Woh woh woh! Vat registered, what's that then! Not Vat registered Cabstar, I only do domestic and would never get a job if I was. Eg: One tree surgeon quotes £300, the other quotes £300 + vat, which one do you think would get the job
  19. I have considered cameras and there is one that does something like 5km wireless line of site. My yard is exactly 850m away from my house with no power supply, more or less line of site but with loads of houses in the way. I've a set of radios which are supposed to be 26mile range, hill top to hill top they do about 6 mile and anything in between, even a wall they do 1mile. If they did as they say on the tin I wouldn't hesitate to buy a camera and power it off solar. I already have a fancy camera system in at home so I don't need to buy monitors, recorders etc Could do with finding someone who has one of these 5km jobbies and get some feedback
  20. Bit p1ssed off today, got a letter off parcel force demanding £47 for import duties, vat and handling on the covert camera I ordered from america for the anti pikie system. Still got it cheap as they are £399 over here and I paid £200 all in. Is there a way round paying VAT does anyone know
