  1. You do realise that coffee is a laxative?
  2. Sounds like it will be good money???
  3. Might be cos you turn up to price with a cup of tea in your hand
  4. Is there ever a moment when you don't have a F''""king tea cup in your hand  I thought Bob drove a big tractor
  5. Whats the spec, age, hours etc. oh and price!
  6. Normally it ends up the same with me, most stumps are left untouched. You offer two prices, one for stump ground, the other for stump left as low as poss. They nearly always go for the cheaper option.
  7. Was looking at the u1000. Took some measurements from the spec page at Atkinsons and compared it to my landy. Quite a bit shorter but quite a bit wider. Might be a problem on some of the long narrow drives I have had to negotiate. What I was thinking of doing is revisiting some of the tighter access jobs I have done and measure the gaps, see if I could have got in with a mog.
  8. I never tell the customer that I have my own grinder. That way when they ask for the option of grinding on a silly little stump. You can say, well it's £50 to hire the machine but I'll do the grinding for nowt. That way you can get your minimum charge without them moaning. If it a big stump then you can say, I'll just charge you the time to do it plus the hire.
  9. I know that feeling, don't seem to be getting anywhere then all of a sudden it's done.
  10. Do they have a web site Steve. I'm considering a mog, but would want a smaller one for domestic work. Been looking at them for a while now but can't make my mind up. Would have to sell my Defender 130 and probably my new bandit 65xl. Should have nearly enough to get a full setup with Mog, chipperbox and pto chipper. Errmmm???? Do they have hydraulic take off?
  11. Looks like the Elm is braced also Drew, what was the story behind that one?
  12. They quote £3 per inch across here with that well known stump grinding company.
  13. TW150s were bad for shearing motor spindles on the feed rollers if I remember correctly??
  14. If a customer insists then I walk away, ifthey do it often, I walk away often. Those who have diferent ideas have not studied trees otherwise they wouldn't do it (not talking line clearance here guys). How can you profess to being a professional, then deliberately butcher a tree in an unproffessional manner. No matter how much a customer asked, I would hope that a mechanic would not cut and shut a car, that could be sold on to another person or be a danger to another member of public. If I take on the mantle of proffesional tree care, I do exactly that, I don't do bodging just because there isn't enough work in to pay the mortgage. If there's not enough work, it's probably because A. no-one recommends you because your a bodger B. Your skimping on advertising I'd say half my work is through recommendation and repeat work because they were so pleased with my proffessionalism
  15. Most customers are responsible tree ownwers and will take advice from professionals, most rely on you to guide them in the right direction. There is the odd Tree owner however, that won't take advise, thankfully they are few and far between.
  16. I was watching that video of the timberwolf TW7 and I thought it gave off too many slivers and bits of crap. Better with the standard four way with adjustable height, you can control exactly what sizes you get then.
  17. Does it deal with the knotty and knarly stuff Huck
  18. If none of that works, what I do is put the torx key or allen key into the rounded hole then tack weld it and the heat will transfer and then you have a solid lever to undo the bolt.
  19. Agree with you there, it's how you come across to the customer, that will win you the job most of the time.
  20. You really need to sit down with a calculator and work out which system if any, you would be better off with.
  21. I'll have 3lb of your best mince and a rump steak please.
  22. Outragous Whats the point of BS3998 Why do we even bother discussuing these issues in the bad pruning thread. You say on your website: All operatives are fully trained, qualified and insured to work in a curteous manner. Estimates are free of charge and we will advise on any tree issues you may have. ....and you are seriously saying that you would mutilate a perfectly healthy tree just to earn a living. Each to there own I suppose.
  23. I have edited my post while you were reading it Ed.
