  1. Lovely looking Ridgeback Beaver
  2. I have had death threats on other forums so this one is heavenly in comparison. The people even posted my address, name, tel No, how many kids I had etc etc. They were members of LACS, say no more. You are safe here, but beware posting too much info. On the flip side, not posting any personal details seems to give some people the confidence to slag off others more than they would do if the were not invisible so to speak.
  3. Couldn't you have felled it down the gap between the two house Tom
  4. Totally right Marc, there are a lot of factors to take into account.. But speed is not everything as you have said in the rest of your post it is also about efficeincy. I have used my mewp where accuracy is needed, I can take down an overhanging branch bit by bit and handle lumps into a small drop zone. Sometimes it quicker and easier to climb and other times the Mewp comes into play.
  5. Yes, we took down a row of 14 with a postage stamp drop zone, nightmare. I anchored into the neighbouring tree when rigging down.
  6. That's what I keep telling her. I tried telling her that when I came back from a show with a £38k cherry picker . She told me to F@~K right off!
  7. Typical, show a bloke a new toy (our lass said)
  8. Depends whether or not you are taking it off road
  9. It wouldn't surprise me Cabstar, if anything can go wrong it will go wrong with me, I'm lucky that way.
  10. Brilliant vid reg. Did you have to experiment with number of wraps?
  11. It would help Jim. It,s generally tied wrong when the tail is put behind, instead of in front of the fixed end. Hard to explain without piccies
  12. The problem with blakes is, it is so easy to tie wrong and look ok to the inexperience eye or in a rush and not double check.
  13. That sounds a little unfair, one rule for one and not the other senario  I did a huge conifer hedge about four years ago which was about 400 metre long. It was peak nesting season and the hedge ended up with castleations along its full length, every time we came across a nest we left it and moved on a couple of metres. to be honest, now with pigeons, if I come across a nest with eggs, i pick the nest up and relocate it lower down, if it has chicks I leave it alone, if I accidently down a conifer top with a nest of chicks in, I try and relocate the nest complete with chicks as nearby as poss. If you do this you have to put it somewhere where the maggies cant see the nest. If we accidently kill any bird or chicks, they don't go to waste, they are fed to the ferrets or hawks.
  14. I was told today of a tree accident in which a climber fell out of a tree. First reports say his blakes hitch came undone and he plummeted to ground bouncing off branches as he went. I was told he is very poorly, his hip was shattered and kidneys damaged. Apparently he was from the Wakefield area and went under Acasia Tree something. I have done searches and cannot find anything. I wanted to hear the correct tale and to see if it was the blakes that failed, because I have always been unsure of the blakes. Does anyone know anything of this accident.
  15. Used it today as the final pulley in the 5:1 system to pull a huge Ash stem back the way I wanted it to go, worked excellent!!
  16. Seems funny to me that as long as I stand in a field of crops, I can shoot as many pigeons as I like at any time of the year I like
  17. Apparently they do, but it has to be a hell of a shock. Namely a fall
  18. Visited a climbing shop this weekend and bought one of these. http://en.petzl.com/petzl/SportProduits?Produit=354 Thought I could put it to some sort of use, like on the last run of a 5:1 pulley system for locking off. Has anyone else got one and how do the use it.
  19. Hard to believe not one of the people there spotted that the Palm was taller than the distance the truck was away. Ermm just put the truck the other side of the fence????
  20. I've had people give me mucky looks and make snide comments about having a big 4x4, how much juice they burn etc etc. I've just done 450 miles on 60 litres whatever that converts to but I don't think its bad for a 4.2litre weighing in at 2.9 ton. If anyone moans I just ask them how many trees they own. They look at you stupid.
  21. Reserve not met Matty!!! Are you wanting to stay married? I can only justify things to the wife for works, not for play.
  22. I like the drystone wall growing out of that peice of beech? Huck, never seen that before
  23. This is a much better motor than your X5. Bit cramped, no room for kids, wife won't want to go in it. Won't be as fast but it will pull stumps Be perfect http://cgi.ebay.co.uk:80/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370036803168&ssPageName=ADME:B:FSEL:GB:1123
  24. I can get it out for you to stroke if you like
