  1. It has just gone through it's MOT 2 days ago. It has never had brilliant brakes. I service it myself, I always take down the brakes, check all pistons are free and working and then rebuild with copperslip. I've even got a new set of front discs and pads to put on but there really isn't anything wrong with the ones that are on. I don't want to replace everything to find the brakes are still crap. I have even checked the vacuum pump to make sure it is supplying the servo enough.
  2. I looked around before asking Reg and found that most others had a load of leads, battery box, lead this box that. This unit has everything encased in one unit with a lead to a small camera, thats it. You don't want to be getting tangled up in a load of leads and wires.
  3. I asked RCO ealrier this year and he gave me this link for the camera he uses. http://www.vio-pov.com/ A very princely price tag of $700, I'mm saving up
  4. I went to do a job with the Mewp today. I pulled up at the job with Mewp on trailer, weight a full 3.5t I was facing uphill, quite a steep uphill and when I stopped on footbrake, the trailer started dragging me back down the hill. Front wheels locked but back wheels wouldn't lock. Now landies are best known for cock on brakes but I have found before that when loaded they are useless. Does anyone know of any off the shelf brake upgrade kits that will stand a loaded 130 on it's nose so to speak and most importantly, get more braking on the rear wheels.
  5. Shouldn't be for long Dave, he told me he was moving up to the lake district, that's why he asked me about getting into tree surgery for a business up there. Thats the reason I let him in on all the trade secrets. and how to go on.
  6. It affects everything though, especailly judgement, hazard assessment, makes you braver, the list could go on. Non of which are a good combination in an already dangerous job.
  7. Be interesting to know what it weighs with all kit on but no chip or logs, ie empty except for saws etc and including driver, just to see what the crane knocks the payload down to. Are you weighing it off at some point Kev.
  8. On a take large take down make a landing pad out of the branches and disc down onto that instead of rigging down the stem. Done it on lawns, pavements, drives, patios etc No damage.
  9. Paranoia and over compensation, would be a lethal combination I would say
  10. Don't do it Jonesie, it only causes dismay and resentment. Everyone had me down as a right ugly thwart, but at the get together we had on saturday, they were all jealous when they saw just what a looker I was, how youthful I looked and how well toned I was
  11. If you are starting a business in tree work you should not jump straight in. Do as I did and as such as S_T_S is doing, setting up whilst working, get an advert in tompsons and wait till it comes out, what work does come in do at weekends till it gets to a point when you have to give up work. It must be hard for S_T_S, working as a gay kissogrm during the day and night, then tree work in his spare time
  12. What a cowboy, you could have taken the ladders out before you buried them in chip.
  13. We did an experiment to prove we need salt intake. It was a ten mile bash with full kit normally 60 or 70lb back pack. Red hot day. Some had salt intake before and during and other didn't have anything. Cramps were abundant in the non salt intake bunch. I think salt intake nowadays with fast food etc is too much, but is ok if you have an arduous, physical job, where you have a lot of fluid loss / intake. In your case Dave, you shouldn't need too much salt, better reduce your intake. Unless of course you do some more footlocking
  14. Won't be long beaver, and then you'll be a proper tree geek like the rest of us. I nearly crashed the car the other day, not looking at girls, looking at a fricking tree!!
  15. Just watched an Asian gentlemen taking an Akita for a walk. The dog didn't want to go the same way as it's walker, so it didn't. The dog was in charge of the walk. Enough said, things like that really piss me off :cussing:
  16. You may have seen this before but I have never seen it so pronounced. Adaptive growth due to Ivy strangulation. You can also see in one of the picture why a non 4x4 is no good for me.
  17. Nowt wrong wi them Jim, nice shape, well maintained Sound job
  18. Two calls a day, seven days a week, for six months, I tried the nice approach, didn't work. Id of shot the B''''''''''''tard through the phone if it were possible. I think all coldcall telesales staff want hanging by the b@llocks or nipples until they beg forgiveness and promise to get a proper job.
  19. I am.... I consult my wife on most things. Can I go out tonight love? Can I have some money love? Can I buy a new log splitter love? Can you post this for me love? etc etc etc
  20. "TREE WORK. Lop topping and selling. Road side trees speciality, big 'uns no problem, fully insured, est 1960's" Yes Log-ologist, think we all ought to jump on the band wagon before this guy takes all our work away from us
  21. I charged nothing for up to 70 miles away. I only use it for my own work and for people I know well now since it went over and that is site specific.
  22. I have both a mattock and the digging bar. Sometimes you cant get a swing of a mattock in.
  23. It was skyhuck who showed me how to footlock in 2" incriments.
  24. I don't seem to get any email crap, I do however get bombarded with parasites phoning me. I have sussed that one out, I just hurl a load of foul mouthed abuse at them and I mean foul mouthed. I got repeated calls from an indian company, twice a day. I tried ringing the UK company they were representing asking them to take me off their hit list. They said they would but the calls didn't stop. The next time they rang I abused the caller verbally, they haven't rang for over a fortnight.
