  1. Yeh, only girls wear chinstraps
  2. Thats why I wont give customers written quotes when they say, "can you put that in writing" You know straight away what they are upto.
  3. Don't know, just came into my head. Hang on let me have a look in the dictionary..... ....ermm, where is it now... ahh, tetchy.. peevish, irritable. Well its a word anyway.
  4. Not at all, I responded to this. The thread is being twisted, seems you LA guys are a bit tetchy
  5. So it was you on the local news dropping trees straight onto gravestones, shame on you.
  6. We are not talking about Tree workers working weekends, it started out non tree workers working weekends on trees. It's getting a bit twisted is this. It isn't what I meant. For example, there is a fireman lives close by me, I passed him the other day on ladders trying to cut a large limb off at full stretch, no harness, no rope. I pulled over and told him he should know better and cut the limb off for him to prevent him injuring himself. You wouldn't like an insurance salesman, take off his suit on friday and start taking down trees on sat and sun with no tickets whatsoever. He's robbing the ones that do it for a living and at the end of the day it is our only income. If you as a tree surgeon working for an LA want to do weekend on private, you are only doing overtime
  7. Yes your right, some may of climbed it, but not everyone has a full deck of cards. Always best to use the mewp if the tree has been deemed dangerous. Even when there's a Tree to anchor into next to the dodgey tree, it can take you with it if it goes if you have your rope routed wrong
  8. Did you have to strip out one side before you could get into the tree with the MEWP BigGUN? I can imagine it could be hard work getting in to attach the sling for the first few lifts. By hek though thats an ugly bunch in the last photo int it ?
  9. Whoh woh woh Lancs, don't be too hasty, if he can aford to run a Mog with a brand spanking crane he can afford full price on a loler inspection.
  10. I had someone last year tell me that the HSE pulled up one day when he was doing a job and asked him why he wasn't using a MEWP. He said that if a MEWP could be used, then it should be. When assessing a job the safest method of gaining access to the tree should be used. I think, either it was a load of B'llocks or the HSE guy was sniffing coke at the time.
  11. Yeh, you might have got somewhere had the rope not been tied off at a 45 degree angle. But there was no need for violence, kicking Bob like that, that was just pure nastynous. Just a reminder below
  12. It's ok Bob, I don't beleive anything 3dogs tells me
  13. It can be taken to heart by new posters with no experience of forums. A belittling post like that can put first time posters off posting all together. Condesending post IMO, Ok if you know the guy personally?

Ahh, I can see clearly now the cryptic has gone. The way you posted that came across as very abrupt.
  15. I'd like to see whther or not they are paying tax on their part time work. At 20+ % income tax it would put them at a severe advantage to those who do pay tax.
  16. No Bob, I'm on about tinpot Tree Surgeons who haven't got a clue but think they have
  17. Good job we had 17 climbers to rescue you from your footlock attempt then isn't it?
  18. It again boils down to what the customer is willing to pay and whther or not you wish to compete with others that are not qualified. If you price a job to take into account two fully qualified climbers and one groundy you will be expensive, in the domestic sector. Commercial sector understand and have to comply so it's much easier to cover the cost of extra qulified staff. If we had a level playing field things would be diffierent but that will never happen
  19. Yes but STS is packing his job in and moving out of the area, I think he's coming up to live near you. Further north I think. The point is Doing tree surgery part time all the time while keeping a full time job is just robbing others of their full time wages. Plus if you already earn a full time wage you should be paing a right whack out of your tree surgery money which will be fully tax deductable from the first £ you earn.
  20. Welcome Axeman, I'm sure you'll find all the info you require will be willingly passed on.
  21. The only problem with lethal remidies is it is a clay soil, which will preserve the bodies after they are buried I think palisade is out of the question, it is far too expensive
  22. Yes that pisses me off too, we have a few of them round here that have a job and then take work from us full time Tree Surgeons in their spare time, being able to charge what they like because it is spending money to them. What will sort the men out from the boys, is when these so called Tree Surgeons have a "close call" going beyond their abilities. Going into Tree Work requires dedication, training and experience. Otherwise eventually you are going to get bitten. There will be many on here who can tell a tale of near death experiences and they will be fully trained and fully experienced. Rant over
