  1. I came across an angry nest in a hedge, I was booked up solid and couldn't come back at a later date. I asked the lady of the house if she has a can of hairspray, she brough one and I used it as a flame thrower at the nest while my mate tapped it with a stick, poor little buggers were all over the floor with no wings. Worked a treat though, 2 or 3 minutes and we were back doing the hedge
  2. I've used that system for the last four years with the same crab, it hasn't been changed. No damage or bending at all. When I get down to 6 inch stems or so, I used a basketed sling But saying that, I never shock load heavy loads, the lad I use for lowering on big jobs can lower anything from terminal velocity to zero without some much as one shake of the tree. IMO the loading on the crab very much depends on how good your lowering man is.
  3. All from the 020 Rupe and all from conifer work. No tie in points, nearly doing the splits trying to gain purchase in a row of conifer 300ft long and 20ft wide where planting was too far spaced and you can see what your doing until you have cleared all the crap from around you cutting near to your feet and body etc etc etc Oh (Sigh) in an ideal world where we had a choice of tie in points and ideal positioning................................ It's ok people saying you should position yourself better but that's not always possible
  4. Guilty as charged your honour. Skipped over it and didn't read it,,, dooooh
  5. I've had my boots 2 years and they have 4 cuts on the toecaps
  6. Plunge the middle of the gob and take the middle out first
  7. What have you got on under your T shirt Ben Looks like Lycra to me mate, not turning are you
  8. Not too sure a get together near a pub is a good idea now Matty ??
  9. Don't know what the hitch is called But I go round the timber once, half hitch round the rope then back round the timber the opposite way and crab back to the rope. It's solid on anything, very quick and has never slipped off owt. I'll probably get some drivel now as to weakening the SWL with this knot or other.
  10. It's only 128 mile from Huddersfield as the crow flies.
  11. Judging by the prices being asked on tbay i'd say you were sitting on a decent wedge especailly for those sizes. I was looking on there early this year and they were asking £4 for a tiny lump, I've got an eight inch by 6ft piece and a load of little bits stashed, was going to ebay them but haven't got round to it. It's always a case of hoping the right person sees it at the right time
  12. Should be a few bob there for you Peter Get it on Tbay
  13. The things you have to do as a Tree Surgeon. Last job of today, I pulled up to find a car in the way. I knocked on the door to ask a young lady to move it for me. She said, "No problem, but you'll just have to cop hold of this for a minute" and chucked this little bundle at me, I think it was a baby human . I've seen one before, my two girls looked similar when they were young. Thing is, it had just been fed and kept burping and stuff. Expected it throwing up on me
  14. Sorry Alex, you've got the wrong end of the stick, I was being sarcastic to some on here. The "money talks, ask the loppers" comment was just to wind up those on here that said they would top trees just for the money What I meant by, you can't price jobs to do by the book is: If you price to do a large takedown by the book, ie two handed saw handling, step cuts, no hand helds, rigging every single branch down. Your price would be so high you'd never get work. For example, one of my shortcuts is to drop a big pile of brash at the base of the tree and send the big discs down onto it, far quicker than rigging down. There are shortcut that are safe without being a cowboy. One of your statements is spot on, do the job right, don't break any of their roses or fence panels and leave the job spotless and they won't get quotes next time, they just have you whatever
  15. It's not always possible to win quotes doing things to the book Alex. Sometimes doing shortcuts could make a two day job into one day. Money talks, ask the lopper and Toppers
  16. I leave my lockjack attached all the time on my main line. Only thing which I find tricky is when you want to come down and out at the same time. In other words jump across to another tree onto a lower branch, can be a bit jerky when you've to get it right.
  17. Spiderjacks are good, just take an hour or so to get used to them. I have a soft link in the form of a doubled tape sling, which gets it away from you, undouble it to get it farther away for pulling yourself up and a soft link also takes care of any misalignment. Stick with it deer man, once you get used to them you won't go back, I use lockjack sport, but have had a long play with Bobs spiderjack
  18. I went in to their office and unplugged all the computers and started taking all the office equipment.
  19. Well spotted SBTC, hadn't seen that myself, like I was saying to Skyhuck yesterday, I'm a health and Safety nightmare. I'll try and find another photo to scrutinised soon
  20. That didn't last long, the frayed wire cored rope, or should I say badly frayed. Why didn't someone spot that earlier ?? PM me your address Dave
