  1. I rang them at 9am to to tell them about the endorsments and to up the liability from 2.5M to 5M, they said they were going to get on to the underwriters about it and took my mobile. Bearing in mind they knew my insurance ran out today they haven't rung back yet. In the mean time I rang Trust, did the proposal and quote over the phone, emailed all my serial numbers to them and received all documents via email. I'm paying a lot more but I now feel more confident about payout on claim.
  2. PL, EL and equipment Just re-insured from NFU to Trust The exclusions on NFU made the policy unworkable for a tree surgeon: We will not pay liability arising from: 1. Felling of any tree exceeding six metres unless its distance from any public road, railway, building or structure equals or exceeds its height 2. pruning or felling of any tree exceeding 10 metres in height, within ten metres of any public roadway, railway, building, structure or over head cable My premium with them was £1308 PL £2.5m EL £10m Tools £10K Chipper was down as trailer (dodgey) on seperate policy at near £400 Now I am with Trust @ £2400 with no restrictions and loads more enhancments on their insurance such as rehabilitation for injured employees with private health care and all new for old policy PL £5m EL £10m Tools £10K Chipper £21K Mewp £10K Cheap insurance has a risk of non payment in the event if you do not scrutinise the small print
  3. Last night I ended up fighting the dog and I came of worse with teeth sunk right through my finger Normally placid dog for some reason whipped round and grabbed the wifes hand as she was stroking him, so I immediately jumped up and grabbed him on the side of the neck and pinned him down to the ground trying to get him on his side in the submissive position. No way was he going down so ended up battling him with blood and snot all over the floor. It ended up with him backing down eventually and me with bite marks all over my left hand where he was trying to chew it I dont agree with hitting dogs, I find training them in terms they understand gets results. If I even look at him now he rolls over on his back but I need to work on getting his "status" below the rest of the family, hes been slowly creeping up. I will take him to the vets as I think he may have sore teeth or something for him to just snap like that, totally out of character
  4. Next time you go across that bridge take the blower with you Dave and give it a good blowing off, that fallen leaf litter and catkins are really annoying me
  5. Hahaha.....That was a shot across the bows that sunk his ship I reckon there Sean
  6. I'll have you know I'm verging on anorexia
  7. You lead a very boring existence Simon, did you do anything exciting like breathe
  8. I get it....you are supposed to hit the little white ball with that long club...............but WHY ????????????????? Well done with the amount raised mate .....stunning figure,,,the amount mate not your butt
  9. I know mate I was more interested in the bridges modular construction, you can see the pins all the way along holding the sections together and the way the bridge bows downwards with the weight
  10. Put it out of its misery did you Davey boy ??? We'll make a country bumkin out of you yet old chap
  11. You need to get some growth stunting hormone for that dog of yours, it's going to eat you out of house and home
  12. I think this thread is great, going to get my new camera out and get snapping, a thread like this should encourage others to do the same
  13. I must admit Andy...it's been a "quiet" week for me
  14. Serviced chipper this morning then took dogs out for a swim in the river and a run round, trying to get them fit for the coming season
  15. We didn't chase those Ducks without your permission Dad ......Honest !
  16. Not really, it is to me I'm a fully qualified HGV mechanic but to someone who has no idea it is far from obvious There's a whole load of things to check and service that the uneducated would have no idea about, the air system alone should have it's own little service regime A landrover could come in and have a full service in a few hours I would seperate everything on a mog to make service easy and carry out each one seperately Engine Service Driveline Service Air System service Brake System Service I may have underquoted costs as I carry out my own servicing, but dont anyone be fooled, Mogs are expensive to own and run there is no doubt about that. If you can offset the running costs against the type of work you do as Dave does then all well and good, but I would not even consider a Mog unless I did mainly commercail work
  17. Time will tell You should be basing your figure on proper service costs not DIY service costs, over a two to three year period not over a twelve month period. There's much more to servicing a MOG than changing oil and filters. I reckon the Landy would have to have less than £1k per year set aside for service repair costs, if I had a Mog I would set aside at the very least double that
  18. Mogs ARE very expensive to maintain, that is of course if they are maintained correctly, if they are not then you will get away without a big outlay for a couple of years then WHAM!!!!! You are saddled with a huge bill. I could not manage with a transit, no good whatsoever for my line of work. With a transit or Iveco I cannot winch over trees I cannot drive through woodland I cannot tow whole trees to where I want them I cannot tip on the chip pile without getting stuck I cannot drive up steep lawns round the back of customers houses I cannot select lowbox to reverse heavy trailers up drives I cannot select 4WD when required I cannot get out in the snow to do emergency work I cannot drive up behind other tree surgeons mates waiting at junctions and slowly shove them out into the road without scratching my bumper
  19. Spot on Mike Every job I do I look at whether I'd be able to get crane/hiab access and how much time it would save and to be honest, unless you are working on mainly parks and open spaces or Street trees it's not work having machinery sat there doing naff all. Most of my jobs are reductions, crown lifts or trimming, very few big meaty stuff roadside or even withing reach of Daves Hiab
  20. Your very pissedermistic today Mick
