  1. Big differance..... Just done my books for 09 / 10 and I earned sweet FA However what a tree surgeon charges is substantially more than sweet FA. It depends on work and tools required.
  2. I could use some help on Wednesday *tomorrow* (sorry) as well as Friday with more days in future. My usual workers are all unavailable and I have a three day three man job booked in. Experience level is not an issue as there will be pleanty of brash dragging and ground level work but if you have no certs you can't touch the saws:thumbup1: Pay is pretty rotten £60 per day but if you are local and have nothing going on then please call me 07810 832 040 Site is Studley area, base is Bromsgrove. I am looking for just two people (male or female), two days this week but there are likely to be more in future.
  3. totally gobsmacked. 50 - 50 chance of someone ending up in hospital i guess. The bit that freaked me was near the end when he was putting in some more notches. The lady panned over to the high tensioned rope that was tied to the car, some idiot was holding it..... I was just imagineing the splatter if it twanged on him. :-)
  4. I had a little lick of a taste after the blasted berries blocked up my chute. They look and feel a lot more repulsive than they taste but the bit i tasted tasted of almost nothing. However the nastiest berries that have blocked my chute (I only run a small chipper) were rowan last week. The stuff is rancid and braught my groundie up in a nasty excma <--- spelt wrong Well at least we think it could have been the rowan berries. They were so nasty feeling and generally yucky that i couldn't even bring myself to touch one to my tongue.
  5. Mostly Blakes hitch because that was what I was taught. I have tried a few modified knots. I like the comfortable single handed small adjustments that the hitch gives but disslike the decent through thickly shooting trees because I am constantly trying to adjust to avoid snapping shoots. The blakes hitch can be used single handed for decending but it's not a good or safe idea to use it that way. It's also pretty heavy wearing on the rope. Reciently I doubled up the blakes hitch to give 3 over the rope and 4 above for a single line decent *Thumbs up* It worked a treat but would only be any good for straight decents. Not really sure of the names of the couple of other nots I have used but I found none of them as all round comfortable for me as the hitch. Now I'm off to learn what a VT is...

    Loler

I'm just south of Birmingham (Bromsgrove). Anyone local want to do my gear at a nice affordable price?
  7. I have a dead one to do in Feb. Is the wood good for anything? is it worth splitting for logs?
  8. He did pretty well considering he's prolly just a farmer with a little saw. Yes it's dangerous but he still managed to bring it down safely with a mini domestic saw. *I take my hat off to the madman*
  9. If there was an olimpic event "bouncing around" they both would have medals.
  10. i Think that person you are calling the woman is actually a man.!
  11. I havn't read from page 2 onwards so this may well be covered. A Virbal contract is legally binding as long as there was a witness. Done it before for a mate. I wasn't even there but wrote a statement that I was as the lady was behaving like your customer and deserved everything she got. She paid up in full before it got to court which was good as I wouldn't have actually turned up and lied. The other option of suggesting that you were paid to take the waste away as well as do the work may well get results. I have used the threat once in three years and it worked well. :-) The threat of having 11 ton of semi mulched chip placed at the bottom of his and his neighbours drive worked. The chancer then asked me to go and do another job for him!!!!
  12. Loads of people seem to be getting stoves put in this year. Good news is they get lovely mixed loads. L200 boot £50 mixed - £60 hard 10 ft trailer £90 mixed - £100 hard 7.5 ton tipper - £180 mixed - £200 hard
  13. Thanks, do you know if that is for Friday or both days?
  14. Nice piccies by the way :-) I had a pretty basic row of connifers to take out and was just setting up the first one when customer asks me to try and fell them on the fence posts to save digging them up. That was a fun target practice day. Not really avoidance though, just teh usual roofs and greenhouses I guess.
  15. *sarcasm removed* It just doesn't suit me.
  16. Yup thanks, that helps, I'll give him a call in the morning. *thumbs up*
  17. there are some really cheap ones on E-Bay. hmmmmmm are they man enough
  18. I have a Yew trunk that I have cut into thin strips for making place mats out of and I want to engrave them. I have seen occasionally some items that have had burned in lettering a bit like an engraving on metalwork. Whats the thing called that basically burns / engraves wood? Also any advise on sealing in the yew wood so that it keeps it's lovely pink luster? It's been down for about a year but is still a bit damp and fragile. PS: I didn't chop it down.
  19. I had a bunch of witches brooms in some birches the other day. They are the first real galls I spotted. Didn't picture them tho sorry
  20. I have worked with a female climber and to be honest her agility and lack of weight made her better at that part of the job than I think I could ever be. However when it came down to the groundwork she could never be as good as most men as she simply did not have the same strength level. She did however drop the bits smaller than I usually would which meant that in general she could keep up. Thats my thaughts.
  21. I saw that too :-) I am knid of hopeing there is someone I recognise locally on there as there are a few dodgy cowboys round here. Also hopeing that they don't tarnish us all with that brush! Possibly they will say something stupid like "You can only really trust members of the AA" Hopefully they will just suggest that you look at the persons insurance as that seems to be the only real leveller out there at the moment. Without tickets you can't get insurance so that at least means that the person has basic training and knowledge. Hoooo Hummm
  22. That does look a nice job... apart from lugging that massive trunk anywhere!
  23. I have one of those power station recyclers that came down and offered me £7.00 a ton. Much better than nothing.
  24. See.... thats where you are wrong. Everyone knows that the bigger it is the harder it falls. We are paid to fall the trees so we all get a kick from the big fellas. Anyway I don't think I have been over 100' yet and to be fair the few times I have been over 70 to 80 ish I spend half the time checking my pants for signs of wear.
  25. I got to site this morning and promptly turned round again. Didnt fancy fighting my way up a dodgy ivy covered willow at the side of a slippy road. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm pretty quiet so the jobs I had lined up are all getting done next week now. :-) This week I will be mostly cleaning and servicing stuff (and watching Trisha)
