  1. For what difference it makes to the subject, I'm self employed with a company on an ongoing basis.

I'm looking to get out of it though as the work I'm doing is the safety side of railway work, with a de-veg gang, rather than the actual de-veg side of it. Anyone who knows rail work will know what I'm on about (site warden/lookout work).

  2. I wish they were my competition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They sound useless and easy to beat!!!!

It the skilled professional firms that I worry about!!!

Don't get me wrong I'm in work and have been told it's 12 months work too so I've no problem there, it's not the work I want to be doing but there's not much option at the minute.

they are useless but seem to talk the talk etc. That seems to count for more.

  3. John, I'm already on that one mate there's no way I'm subbing forever!

Your point about the colleges is exactly my point, how many actually are interested in it and how many just see it as an easy way to well paid work.

I know what my work standard is like people I've worked for are always happy with my work I've no problem there.

  4. This is partly a question and partly getting something of my chest, but how the hell as a subbie do you compete? In my relatively short time doing it I've worked with some good lads and met people who have become good friends. But I've also had the pleasure of working with people who lie to get the work, like the guy who apparently has a chipper, but it's always somewhere else! Im not going into his chainsaw work!! A guy working as a supervisor who has as much experience as my dog. I know two "climbers" who never climb. It really irritates me that these people have jobs that could be filled by someone "normal"!

I think the situation is made worse with the ease of getting saw tickets and it'll probably get worse too.

    So any suggestions?

  5. Hi just seeing if there's any work going within an hours travelling of Manchester at the minute. Needs to be a week or two of work rather than odd days here and there. Got my cscs, cs30,31,38,39 first aid, hgv1, nptc tractor. I've got all my own kit etc. Cheers mike 07764581557

  6. Ok I'm ready to be ridiculed for this but I'm looking at getting an el-cheapo electric chainsaw, its only going to get a small amount of use logging up at home to save annoying the neighbours using a petrol one. Any recommendations?

  7. There's been a few cuts at work. One went up the seem of the protection and caused a small cut. Another went through the trousers again a small cut. Both of these didn't need stitches. Another guy somehow managed to cut Another guys arm, not sure how that happened, but that needed a few sticker.
