  1. We are considering getting a stump grinder head for our 1.5 T excavator, anyone with any experience of them, along with recommendations/warnings?
  2. Hi Ed Don't suppose you could email me one please...???
  3. Thanks Mr Mctree I'll try them tomorrow. They seem to have fallen out of favour with suppliers.
  4. Struggling to find any Arb suppliers selling Hobbs H2. Anyone know any stores selling it. And why have they seemingly fallen out of favour? Plenty of GRCS but nowt in the way of Hobbs. Please no Hobbs vs GRCS...I want a Hobbs!
  5. Also interested in the mill; pm when its for sale please.
  6. Hi All; we are looking for an independant 3/4 man crew to join us for road side works this winter in Mid Wales area. You need to be certified, well equipped and have a minimum of 5 years experience for climber and groundy. Prefer CHAS or AA registered, but not essential. What is essential is that you are reliable, hard working and conscientious and have got plenty of roadside experience. PM me for more details.
  7. Chris Chester at Arb-Response is the man in your area. PM me for his moby.
  8. Thanks Difflock. It will be Sept/Oct due to habitat and nesting issues. Would you think 80% survival for translocated hedging to be realistic? Presumably we would'nt need water spray if it's raining properly again?
  9. 1.2 metre bucket to move it. But the question is; likely survival percentage of hedge we move?
  10. Road next to/above hedge is collapsing, so a re build is required. Hedge has doormice (EPS), so licence states hedge moved a couple of metres before work starts.
  11. 300 metres of hedge to move a couple of metres way from existing line. Established and mostly native species. 4 metres at its widest, up to 3 metres high. Any mature trees in amongst it all will be removed. Does any-one have experience of moving a hedge? The question I need answered is; what is the survival rate likely to be? The new bank will be constructed with new soil and soil enhancers. Thanks.
  12. Lovely! Beautiful and creative use of a stem. Any pics of it in progress?
  13. goods vehicles, other than an agricultural motor vehicle, used only for purposes relating to agriculture, horticulture or forestry: - is used on roads only in passing between different areas of land occupied by the same person - in passing between any two such areas does not travel a distance exceeding 1.5 kilometres on roads From VOSA site, as we were advised by The Man. So unless you register Mog etc as Ag motor vehicle which we have been told we can't...seems they are gradually blocking the loopholes.
  14. We are going through the same at the moment. Anything on the road over 3.5 T gross train weight needs an O licence, albeit a restricted one. Ag registration is not really a grey area; you are limited to 1.5 kms per day on the highway. Makes no difference if you carry goods for hire and reward or own goods or no goods. VOSA website is clear and helpful, as are VOSA (usually) if you 'phone them. If your'e worried about your local VOSA phone a different area; they don't take your details. O licence and 1 vehicle reg. is an initial cost of around £600.

Hi, interested in buying this saw. How old is it and what bar?
  16. Chest sizes for XL and XXL please?
  17. Where is the post; can't see health and safety on forum?
  18. Sessile Oak butts 25 off for sale for client in North Wales. Delivery available.
  19. I agree; one of the issues I have with this is that it lowers the standards of professionalism most of us strive for. And if injury or long term harm was to occur to a council employee, we the tax payer have to pay.
  20. id be pissed if that happened to me. I work for a council and weve got a great boss and equipment( very much looked affter). As a basic rule of thumb, if you do one thing the council are ment to do one more. i.e if they was a fully working crew with upto date pratices this shouldnt of happened, also with the council being h&s mad/overboard id defo contact not just a line manager but the dept manager on this. also we only have the 1 trees and woodlands dept which then gets contracted out to other dept like highways schools etc. so id call trees and woodlands 1st bud These lot can't move for new gear, just seems they didn't bring it with them. We are in the National Park here so trees are Park authority, trees falling into roads are council highways dept.
  21. So have they done what is in essence your work (responsibility) Is this a private estate with unadopted roads If so- you must be chuffed to have their help If it's adopted then why not leave them to it or is it that you will get paid by the estate so value their help. Is the worry that if you are getting paid then are they effectively working under your supervision. I would assume they do their own risk assessment and so it's down to them to stay safe. But your risk assessment would preclude working alongside anyone not wearing PPE. Have you checked whether they have relevant tickets? I guess you should have stopped working and told them to leave and unless they did you should have left the site (safe)- then phoned the council officer. I wouldn't know what to do at the time and similarly would be asking on here- sorry I'm no help at all. Hope someone else knows Public highway. Risk assessment was not undertaken by them, another reason to contact council HSE dept maybe.. As for phoning this council after 5 on a Friday... These unprepared for situations are always hard to deal with.
  22. First truck from highways team turns up with 7 year old son in the cab, but no road closed signs, adding to the chaos. I had no right to turn them away really, and didn't want to, just wanted them to work safely. One stated, despite using chainsaw and chipper, that as there were no 'overhead obstructions' he didn't need a hard hat.Maybe he hadn't seen the three hung up trees above him. No, they didn't help me earn any more as I am responsible for the Estate's trees. This tree was on the public highway, and after asking the council 'crew' to don PPE one of them went to load the tracked chipper and leave, and was only stopped by (yet another) council bod who had turned up. I asked him to clarify that because I had asked for PPE to be worn, having responsibilty for everyones safety on site, as we all do, he was refusing to clear the obstruction on the highway? I could of course have left them to it, but had no faith in their abilities having seen them work over the years. As you say, the options for contact are varied, hence the question 'what would you do...!
