  1. We got a call today that three large trees had fallen across a B road on an Estate we manage the trees for. We inform Estate manger, start to dismantle the trees, council highways officer turns up, followed later by highways gang. So far, so good. Then highways gang start cutting up timber we are dropping and chipping the brash in their chipper. One has jeans and no PPE and the other has Chainsaw trousers and boots, no other PPE and council has no warning signs to shut road etc. I ask crew to put on PPE; they say they will go, and leave us to it rather than put on PPE. I point out stat duty of council to clear highway, one does eventually put on lid , other refuses, continues working with chipper, jeans and attitude etc but no PPE. So here is the question; complaint to council Monday morning, or accept different working practice when you are 'out in the sticks'?
  2. Just back from it. Seemed less exhibitors, less timber framers and fewer carvers, but a good few of the usual fantastic artisan woodworkers in attendance. Down sides are 50% hike in price from last year, and security guards dressed as neo-fascists and wearing stab jackets. And even worse, in an apparent disregard of the premise of local (ish) small independent producers, two Walls ice cream vans, in prime position, like a creeping disease. Lets hope that the new venue does'nt mean Woodfest looses it's comfortable, casual and unfortunately, almost unique nature, and follows the corporate dollar.
  3. Hi Murray don't worry about the stamps. Put something in the charity box/buy something for the kids. Text me your address and postcode and I'll post in the next couple of days.

    Regards Adam

  4. P.M me and I'll send you some for postage, you tight git..
  5. You've apologized for being racist; one little step and you can apologize, and reflect, for being sexist. And then maybe we'll even believe you've got a girlfriend.
  6. Thanks for that Spud; I'll try the tissues. Just got the Husqy piston ring tool and crankshaft holder, so presume I put tissues in before using the holder? Anything else to watch for, or is likely to fall off...?
  7. Did you find it online? Local dealer is a bit slow..
  8. Thanks lads. Head bolts came loose, and resulted in a slight air leak after tightening.
  9. Has anyone got any pointers for changing the cylinder base gasket on a 346? Does it need a special tool to compress the rings? Thanks.
  10. Wise up. This site doesn’t have free membership; it is run in what is considered to be a good way, i.e. one which attracts subscribers, which then attracts sponsors and advertisers. No one should work for free, and I couldn’t and wouldn’t have anyone work for me and not pay them. It would be demeaning to them and me An honest days pay for an honest days labour has been a principal fought for, for years in this country. What you decide to do with time you make spare is totally different..
  11. Hamadryad; further photos indicate Q.robur. Due to targets it needs a dismantle, felling the bole to save for milling would be complex, but not impossible. Once we get into the top of the trunk we'll decide.
  12. Many thanks; and you have proved what a fantastic resource this site is! The tree is coming down, wanted to know if there was going to be any chance of useable timber, or firewood the lot. Thanks again.
  13. I've been sent these by a distant customer, ID would be a great help on this Quercus. Thanks.
  14. Very creative; excellent result with time lapse, and a brilliant backing score! Why the big stump? Be interested in buying sized timber dependent on what cedar and where it is.
  15. We have 17 Butts up to 75 cms DBH, and 30 metre lengths, in the round, clean and straight and grown open at altitude, 8 wheeler access, North Wales. PM for details and price.
  16. Great pics. Glenridding?
  17. Price match ebay for the Weblift 3200??
  18. Thanks for that. The Weblift and Jet look similar; I'll check out ebay.
  19. Have used one; fine for some things, but need a manual winch this time.
  20. Might be interested...how long's the wire? Has it got the hook on one end?
  21. We need a new winch, and are considering the Weblift 3200kgs. It comes in at half the price of the outstanding Tirfor. Question is, has anybody out there got one or used one, as I can't find any reviews of it anywhere. Please DON'T bother with all the '...nothing's as good as a Tirfor...' I know they are great, but want to know if Weblift are any good/well made/ up to the job. Cheers!
  22. rk23 Stem round, like a lot of trees...
  23. Thanks Dean, that wild guess sounds good to me. Using a 3.5 T winch system, plenty of margin...
  24. No prize; your'e one o out.
