    Come on Mick, there has to be more to it than just money – surely? If it was just about money I’d be working in a print factory, working every God-given hour and taking home 40k a year; either that or working as a gynaecologist.

    When I first started here in L/A land (10 years ago) we were on 12.5k a year (so money wasn’t the motivation). I guess at first it was the physically active work that attracted me and the desire to become a reasonable Arborist that motivated me. 10 years on the motivation is to provide the best tree care possible in the city and to produce an income which should/could ensure an in-house Arb team for future years.

    Savage weather? Oh-yeh, i know that - its when you wind the window down (a tiny bit) and the rain spatters in. God I hate that!

    Mate I know where your coming from! Even Goretex isn’t the final amswer. I have a jacket which I use for walking etc, cost me £170 and after a few washes has lost its waterproofness (is there such a word?) Apparently it needs re-washing in a special detergent as the goretex gets contaminated with dirt and looses its effectiveness. I do a lot of cycling and there are some excellent, fully breathable and waterproof jackets out there. All it needs is the manufacturer to re-brand a few jackets and expand their market.
