  1. I must admit to being a little suprised at a a few answers to deermans question regarding Mog usage. We have owned, modified and run too many of them in the past 20 years. VOSA are in place to ensure the roadworthiness of the of the vehicle not what it can or cant do on the road. Brake systems, lights, steering tyre specs and axle weights are their intersts. HM Revenue and Customs will take a very big interest in what colour diesel you are using in your Mog - speak to your local office for clarification, get it in writing and be very honest with them what you are really using the Mog for. They do not class Tree Surgery as Forestry, so that load of leylandii chip from Mrs Goggins garden hedge on a tank of red may get your pride and joy confiscated- the oness is upon you to prove otherwise, not that easy and may also trigger a complience inspection. A Tax Inspector looking at all your past client invioces with domestic addresses on them wont help your case much. Your local area traffic commisioner is the chap who decides if you need an Operators Licence or not and yes an ag registered Mog may be subject to one- we had one on our 1650 before i sold it. Their interest lies in you financial and technical ability to safely run and maintain your vehicle on a public road. For a more precise answer to your question i suggest you contact the above agencies
  2. Sorry my mistake, checked hire records 220/ 55- guess this means 8 inch 55 hp, still was lacking in chipping performance and what is that plastic curtain all about in the infeed?
  3. Had a brand new 7 inch Greenmech on hire before christmas- appalling machine performance wise, 12 year old Lister powered 6 inch Bandit was outchipping it!
  4. Landy is 97 P reg. Mog widths can vary depending on what wheel rim offset you have fitted, our 1650 is 75mm narrower than my mates Transit 350 and same width as Land Rover Tipper
  5. Have you had that chipbox full yet? just intereseted what it handles like. I know from my past mogs with the chipbox full and chipper on rear 3 PL steering can get a little light to say the least, now only tow the chippers or have put them on front in the past.
  6. Looked at it but it had a hard life- needed range change syncros doing in gearbox, and king pin bearings replacing. Gotta 1650 with 18" morbark, 130 tipper( should have got a 110 instead) MAN and Iveco 7.5 tonners, apart from that yard is looking a bit empty
  7. Why are you selling it?
  8. Is that 1650 Salceys old one?
  9. Nearly forgot Farmi 260 awsome, had 3 no problems at all, unfortunately sold them >Looking to buy another does anyone have one for sale or know of one for sale.
  10. Gotta Timberwolf 190 Turbo, Premier 440Mx and Morbark 18. Had less problems with the Timberwolf and will outchip the Premier when run side by side, but will only keep it for 3 years as not as solid as i would like it to be. Premier is too heavy and keeps developing small stress fractures in the excessive amount of metal surrounding it, also the belt tensioning clutch is sh*t, if you drive over a pothole the engine bounces up and down!! Morbark well" F**k Me" enough said
  11. Thats no 250 wiv those weeny little blades
  12. I thought we are meant to be proffessionals from the start of the job right through to how we dispose of, or store our logs and woodchip, dumping them in the corner of a field and and hoping no one will notice aint the answer. Do it properly, work with your local council and the environment agency, get the right paperwork in place. It only takes one complaint from a local resident, disgruntled ex employee etc to make you wish you had, the fines and legislation behind them are very unforgiving.
  13. To import wood chip and logs onto a piece of land, be it a corner of a field or a farm yard, if it does not originate from the land it is stored on or has no direct use on the land where it is stored you need planning permission. You can compost up to 1000 m3 of wood chip but you need an Environment Agency exemption, wiil have to do an envirnmental impact assesment etc to get it- but you still need planning pemission. And bringing brash, rakings, logs onto a site and burning it God help you if you get caught!! All the above comes from very painful and expensive experience solicitors and barristers bill to date would buy a decent chipper new.
  14. Word your quotes so that you become the owner of the wood , chip, brash etc when they are loaded onto your vehicles. We tow trailers behind 7.5 tonners BUT on L.G.V licences, anything over 8250 kgs GROSS train weight class 1 or 2 licence. M25 VOSA weighbridge at jnct 9 became my second home for a while until we got it right. Was also told that Mogs carring a load could also need operators licence even if ag registered
  15. Don`t need CPC if Restricted operator (orange disk) do if applying for blue disk- usually for professional transportation at home and abroad.
  16. Do you by any chance know if they have Euro 1,2 or 3 engines fitted, as come July its the Low Emmission Zone for us
  17. Looking at the Merc Varios now, how do they stand up to general tree lads abuse?
  18. Quick question from a new member, forgot to say hello when i first joined so a big belated hello to fellow forum members, anyway back to my question what is this tree surgeons obsession with Unimogs?
  19. If you keep your milage down you can apply to your test center for a Tacho exemption
  20. Some thing is definately in the air, a few of my developer clients/ friends are starting to batten down the hatches and this is in affluent Surrey!! Been thru one recession, nearly lost the business having too much on tick, if it aint working but still costing money each month is real hard At the moment the phones are still ringing and work is coming in so cant complain at the moment
  21. Sorry didnt mean to offend anyone In just sat here in the office now looking at the shelves stacked high with paperwork from TPO/ consevation applications, Heath and Safety, vehicle records, employee records, accounts etc etc that is only a small part of what goes into running a business from the office side of things in the good old days the only paperwork you had to worry about was what your chips came wrapped in or what to wipe yer arse on in the woods. I guess it must be a lot easier for you chaps who have not known any thing else , i sometimes dispair the amount of work we do before we even get near the tree. I take my hat off to anyone starting out- go for it you control your own destiny
  22. Hi Crosscut, yes you can have an o licence for a domestic address, you need to advertise your intentions to operate from your address in your local paper to allow all your neighbours the chance to object!!, the vehicle must be off the road and you must have sufficient room to properly maintain the vehicle, there are other considerations. It wont be easy but it can be done We had one from from my home but when i tried to add a second vehicle to it the area traffic commisioner refused so we now operate from our yard
  23. 25 years in this business- i must whole heartedly aggree wilth Roller and Quickthorn- Gotta work a damn site harder for your money nowerdays
  24. Can`t disclose chaps, as he is in the great woodyard in the sky, but was one of the founding fathers of tree care in this country. Been in this biz for 25 years, when i started far less of us around so got better money as less competition. Now to stay ahead run bigger trucks and chippers, 60% of job is clearing up, quicker you can do it, the more work you do
  25. I know a place you could park your caravan, but practice your Irish accent!!
